stefan32burke reacted to TheSLSAMG in I am tired of everyone claiming "6 cores do nothing for games," and tired of hearing "you only need 8 gigs of ram."
Okay, you've seen higher FPS in four games of which have arguable levels of optimization towards specific sets of hardware and you need more than 8GB of RAM...
That doesn't mean we are all the same. It stands true that an Intel quad-core processor and 8GB RAM is perfectly suitable for gaming. May you see performance increases from more? Sure, but that's debatable and it's not going to make every game run exponentially better to the point where the extra hardware costs are justified.

Yea... This is a little childish IMHO. Just release competitive GPU's and be done with it.

It doesn't have a negative impact, people shouldn't be so sensitive about what gaming platform they play on. If someone says Xbox sucks, deal with it. You aren't being personally insulted they are insulting a product, not you. People are too sensitive these days.

stefan32burke reacted to Lord Pantaloons in Contests on LTT should partially be geared towards regulars.
I've talked about this with several other "regulars" all with well over 2k posts and the thought was pretty much the same for all of us. Doing something like that would be grossly unfair towards a vast majority of LTT's audience. LTT has 885,382 subscribers on Youtube compared to the 94,971 members on this forum whom a vast majority of which don't fit your definition of regular user. Doing that would not be fair to the people who watch every one of LTT's video's but don't have any interest in participating in a forum environment and so haven't joined or posted on the forum. Even if they don't post on the forum anyone who watches an LTT video(without addblock) has done just as much to support LTT as you have done with your 2.6k posts and my 4.7k posts so there's no reason to exclude them from the contest.

Would encourage a lot more shitposting to reach 100 posts or whatever you consider a regular so that they can join the good giveaways.

Conversely, I don't even like most of those companies either. They are just names on a list, a list that I shop around to find what product is best for my needs, desires and priorities.
I simply hate all the fucking 12 year olds that follow these companies around like maggots, spewing their PR and making it seem as if each company is the greatest thing since fucking blowjobs.
OP is right, the real grownups don't care. They use what they like and they live and let live.
Were it so easy for a forum like this that is riddled with those same 12 year olds to follow the same path. But nope. Thats asking for way too much.

stefan32burke reacted to Sauron in PC's need to be like consoles. Read before u judge please.
Pretty much this, and consider the following: I might have the best cpu in the world and a 70$ graphics card, OR I might have a midrange cpu with an r9 295x2. How would you classify these two machines? Obviously they are superior to one another in different use scenarios, but the overall price might be the same. Which is number 1? And there are so many different small changes that can affect performance slightly that you would end up with millions of different spec variations that you would need to take into account, also bare in mind that with new hardware coming out every few months the whole "leaderboard" would be constantly shifting down which means the devs wouldn't really know anything more than they do now.
-EDIT-
Also there are a lot of very well programmed pc games, if the game isn't optimized well it's just because the developers are lazy and think people won't care (right ubisoft?).

stefan32burke reacted to MegaDave91 in Will R9 280X crossfire run 2560 x 1440
Jaggies are still very much noticeable at 1440p, but IMO you don't need more than 2x AA. Even at 4K there's jaggies.

stefan32burke reacted to Tmh85 in Will R9 280X crossfire run 2560 x 1440
r9 280x(s) in crossfire could run 1440p easily on high-medium setting (No AA most likely) but with 1440p you will barely even notice jaggies

stefan32burke got a reaction from SOUTHwarrior in Unofficial LTT Subnetting Guide.
Yeah im just starting system technology L5, and they cover networking, so I really appreciate the opportunity to study and learn as much as I can now. Thanks SOUTHwarrior, I look forward to reading more of your posts.

stefan32burke reacted to SOUTHwarrior in Unofficial LTT Subnetting Guide.
Rough Draft. Not Final production. Thats why I asked at the beginning of the post for some things the users think that would make it better.
Thank you. I have seen countless times on here when somebody has posted something asking about what a subnet is and why their 10.10.10.0/24 ip wont work on their 192.168.1.0/24 network. Just trying to help out the people starting out in the IT world.

stefan32burke reacted to SadTech in Unofficial LTT Subnetting Guide.
General Knowledge especially about networking is very useful. Subnetting can be tricky. A lot of people on here are going to school or have jobs in IT. I am a network admin. and at my job I subnet quite a bit, nice to have a easy to reference guide. When I was in college we had subnetting questions all the damn time. If this helps even one person then it was worth it for him to post.
But home users wont use it, and if they do....WOW.
There are still enough kids in school on here and kids who have jobs as IT professionals that this could very well be useful..
I congratulate you SOUTHwarrior! I really don't understand why everyone is shitting on you for posting this....
for all the people hating you don't have to click on the thread and read it.... just because there is Spiceworks etc doesn't mean people won't find it useful on here.
I am just dumbfounded by all the hate he is receiving.

stefan32burke reacted to LinusTech in Welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forum!
Thanks so much for joining. My vision is a community based on positive member interaction and helping each other. I believe that if we all work together toward this goal, we will have success in the long run.
We don't have official forum rules or anything like that yet, but as long as everyone is respectful of each other, and patient with the growing pains that we are going to experience (vBulletin 5 is VERY beta right now) we can make this into an AWESOME community forum.

stefan32burke reacted to CCap in Is the FX 8350 gonna slow me down?
Why are you going for such an expensive processor for something designed just to browse the web? You'd get almost the same snappiness in one of AMD's quad/hex-core processors as you would with the octa-core. (Hell, a dual core could do the job. That's what I use)
Anything more is just vanity and isn't going to benefit the build in any noticeable way (unless you want more than 100fps in powerpoint/word ).

No point to SATA 3 and no, there is NO performance gain from going to PCI-e 3.0 at this stage.

well there have been alot of power saving and performance increases since the first gen core i7's honeslty performance wise i wouldbnt really change it. but platform wise i definitly would

stefan32burke reacted to juretrn in i7 920 vs 2011
I think the 920 still holds up well against any modern game: http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=836
Even if you were to upgrade, 2011 is not where it's at for gaming, but 1150 socket.
As for Broadwell... not much is yet known for sure, expect another 5% of performance boost compared to Haswell.
But let's face it, X58 is a pretty old platform and lacks certain features, like native USB 3.0, SATA 3 and PCI-e 3.0.
