  1. 8.1! Even as a long time power user / gamer of windows 7, December 2012 I thought I would try Windows 8 when I began having some OS issues and wanted to reformat my boot drive. Was a sceptic at first, but I learned to love it, and now feel 8.1 is simply better again. For the most part, I never use the metro apps on my home PC, but I can see them coming in handy on some mobile devices with touch screen interfaces.
  2. Personally recommend using your PC for both FOLDING and downloading / uploading of internet content overnight if you can afford the electrical costs, else, seriously just shut down. This is better for your operating system in the long run, (you never know when a PC issue due to never shutting down could become a serious inconvenience), and boot times should never be something to worry about in regards to a home PC (laptops and other devices while on the go can be a different story). You just need to take the boot time into consideration and power up such that your system is ready when you need it.
