Yea buddy!  The 5150's keyboard, THE "PC" keyboard.

Typing this right now on it.  For an IBM PC compatible part, you cannot get any older than this, unless you want to go to non IBM machines.  Model F's are so amazing to type on, they feel so amazing.

Ok, Xeon X5482's installed, and overclocked.  Here are the results.

Needless to say, I'm happy with it, it's running good.  It's not the fastest thing out there, but it is a 10 year old computer getting more than I bargained for.

Now for some oddities, CPU1 seems to be stuck at the 8x multiplier, and won't use the lower multipliers.  It *can* use it, but it chooses not to.  CPU2 however, is using its multipliers the way it's supposed to be.  Don't know what that's about, but I'll need to figure it out later.

It's more about the fun of doing it, replacing CPU's on a machine, and pushing it further than designed.  It has allowed me to edit in 4k in Davinci Resolve without issues.

I wanted to make a comment to those being downright frankly, rude towards new customers who post on General all the time.  I get it, I hate it too, but I think you should be more mindful.  Some of them (you pretty much lumped them ALL into that category) may honestly have no computer experience at all and expecting them to know how to use a forum at all is honestly inconsiderate.  You don't know if they are maybe 70 wanting help, or maybe they are our age (whatever your ages may be), and just wanted to dive right into computers headfirst.  So cut them some slack?  I've been a forum mod, a BBS and IRC op well into 20 years now.  You get them, it's just how it works.  They are new, they aren't familiar or sure what the categories are, or where they should even post them.

I've had to deal with people yell at me for posting in the wrong category just because I made one little mistake, so I am pretty honestly not happy with that treatment.  Just move it and be on your way.  Like today, I had an issue with a core component of Windows.  I posted in what I thought was the right spot, for operating systems.  Nope, Troubleshooting.  Thing is, I did actually look, but after my surgery in 2017 and basically dying outright from an embolism before having possibly the best ever surgeons that I could ever be thankful for, saved and revived me.  Why does this matter?  I can't remember things as easily as I once can.  I may look through an entire forum list of categories, and let me tell you, this place has a crap ton of categories, you end up forgetting half of them as you're trying to sift through it, so you know what?  I put it on the wrong spot.  No one complained, a moderator moved my post, and just let me know that was it, and that's GREAT.  What isn't great though is when I've had other members play moderator then basically chew me out, or treat me like I don't know anything about computers, and that too hurts, I worked in IT for at least 16 years now, and worked at Apple as a programmer because I knew x86 assembly.  Well, just because I don't know one thing about my new computer that I built because my experience with system building is a bit out of date, doesn't give anyone the right to basically insult my entire knowledge library.  Shoot, I didn't get all those things on my wall for nothing (not just certifications, but when I did IT, I had so many awards at my jobs for all the compliments I got.).  Now as I get older, I guess people just being mad at me or others that are either like me, or just NEW to computers, are going to get treated poorly now.

All this over some of the comments on page 3 about intentionally breaking the rules.  Yea no, it's not that simple.  That's my peace on this and I'm not saying more.  I'm not even interested in if you agree with me or not, all I ask is that perhaps, just stop and think, what if that post is from someone like a parent building their kid a computer, and are doing it together to learn, and y'all just treat them like garbage about breaking the rules because they post in the wrong spot or something.

    3G (UMTS/HSPA)
Frequencies that can provide 3G: Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz) and Band 2 (1900 MHz) Voice and data services can work at the same time. You can use data while on a call. 2G (GSM, GPRS, EDGE)
Frequencies that can provide 2G: Band 2 (1900 MHz) Voice and data services don't work at the same time when on 2G. You cannot use data while on a call. https://www.t-mobile.com/support/coverage/t-mobile-network

Then you know something T Mobile doesn't. Because they clearly list out 2G and 3G. While both seem to use band 2, specifically T Mobile states that 2G can not do calls and data at the same time, while 3G can. They further go on to show which networking techs they use for each. 2G being GSM, GPRS, and Edge. While 3G is UMTS/HSPA.

I honestly think it's sad.  I get what the mods are saying about anything political turning dirty, it does.  I can totally hold a respectful one, but I can't guarantee the person I'm debating with can themselves, and based on my experience, not many do.  It turns to mud slinging, personal attacks, which of course do nothing to actually discuss the politics themselves, but over how stupid someone must be.  (lol).

So I get what the staff are saying.  On the other hand, if someone doesn't like politics, you could just ignore it, but some people aren't actually capable of that and would rather troll I guess because typing is fun.

If we're going to hold having to scroll past things we aren't interested in or don't want to hear as an egregious offense, me and a few others trump just about everyone else on here.

Yep, sadly all good things must come to an end.  But you gotta think, 2G has been around for almost 30 years now, it was the first digital standard (or at least one of them).  30 years is a hell of a run considering 3G didn't even last nearly as long for most carriers (3G is getting the axe too, which actually makes all of my smart phone's useless as well, despite them being LTE phones because they are not LTE certified with the carrier, so when you make calls it needs 3G and LTE for data, therefore they'll end up as data phones only.)

Some people could.  I have no issue with that.  I honestly wish I could use a smart phone, I get left out as I am basically disabled to the device as I can't interact with it for some odd reason.  I know there are some resistive based smart phones but they usually are junk hot garbage.  But those work mostly fine though still limiting in its own way I'd be fine with that.

In fairness we are social creatures and like to socialize.  Status updates aren't really a great way to socialize.  I honestly only just figured out how to find status updates today reading this thread, ironically after I found out how to make a status update (earlier this week I think?).  I get it, I'm stupid,

"Off-Topic" even has it's limits, but pardon my language, this is a real saying, sometimes we as social creatures just want to "shoot the sh*t".  And that should be fine, but status updates isn't the same as a proper thread/post.

I'd be ok with with something like off-topic, but even hey, if it allows us to show off something we're proud of, rather than being forced to use status updates.  This is why I honestly almost never come here because it's over-modded.  I'm still a mod myself on several forums and I get it, you have a large customer base, but treat your loyal base well, not pushed to status updates.

I said my peace, but as I said, I'm not really here much as a result of it feeling more like me coming home from work and having more IT work.  Status updates aren't a good outlet and aren't easily find because, well as I said, I'm stupid.  I come home, I'm tired, just show me people's builds that they want to show off with no questions.  (This is why I'm most active in the battlestations post, I love looking at everyone's creations).

Suddenly my setup is getting more split between retro and new.  1981 IBM Model F keyboard is finally in use on a modern machine (I tell you what, getting an old XT protocol keyboard working isn't exactly easy, at least there's 35 dollar adapters pre-made for this with full NKRO), along with what I call, the biggest mouse pad I have ever used.  (I didn't say exist, I said I used).

I had a pretty competitive session of Doom 2016 on high difficulty tonight, and gotta, say, Model F actually kept up perfectly.  No missed keystrokes whatsoever.  Just feels weird typing on a keyboard that's even older than a Model M and is NOT membrane based like an M, and each key is basically a capacitor.  But oh man it was so awesome!

Well, it officially happened.  My desire for mechanical keyboards hit the rolls royce, the IBM Model F.  Buckling spring like the Model M, but does not use a membrane, and instead is capacitance based, and therefore has NKRO.  I got an XT to USB adapter for it (Soarer's) so I can use it on my modern desktop.  I played some Doom 2016 on it, and it actually performed very well!
