  1. My laptop and phone can't ping and connect to the printer when they are connected to the 5GHz band, but pings and connects when it is on the 2.4GHz. I tried connecting the printer in the 5GHz band and this time my devices can't connect to the printer when they are in 2.4GHz. Although I have a desktop PC that is connected via LAN (Wired) and it can connect to the printer regardless whether the printer is in the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band. When pinging the printer the error I get is Destination Host Unreachable and the HP Smart app can't find the printer. I am also unable to ping other devices that are on a different band (Ex: Laptop in 5GHz and phone in 2.4GHz), but I am able to ping devices on LAN (Wired) (Ex: Desktop in LAN and phone in 5GHz). The router is a DrayTek Vigor 2915ac. I am using the same subnet 192.168.2.1/24 on all networks (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and Wired LAN), Isolate Member and VLAN are also disabled. Why can't I ping or connect to another device on a different WiFi band? What am I missing?
  2. Its been 3 days since I installed the 5950X and so far its been holding up. I did undervolting immediately and ran Cinebench for 30 mins to test for stability. It never ran below the base clock, so I guess I never overheated / thermal throttled. I have used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for my thermal paste. Edit: Cinebench scores are 1535 (Single Core) and 22894 (Multi Core). I have the Noctua NF-F12 PWM chromax.Black.swap, the stock fans of the already 212 died. I am leaving it mostly stock, the most 'overclocking' the system will get is from the PBO2 and DOCP.
  3. I just updated to the latest BIOS, but it still won't run on the XMP-3596 profile. I guess OCing the RAM would be the only option? I guess this is better then CL24, but its still not in the memory's XMP-3596 profile.
  4. If I set it to Auto or use DOCP, it automatically goes to 2400MHz CL16, it does not want to go to the XMP 3596 (3600MHz CL19). I guess its because my RAM kit is not in the QVL list.
  5. My system: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X Motherboard: ROG Strix X570-F Gaming RAM: TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan TUF Gaming Alliance 32GB Kit It runs at 2400MHz CL16 when the RAM speed setting is set to Auto, but it runs at 3600MHz CL24 when the RAM speed setting is set to 3600MHz. What happens if I don't use the XMP profile that came with the RAM stick/kit? Will it cause premature wear and tear? Will it still last long? According to the RAM Laterncy Calculator, 3600MHz CL24 and 2400MHz CL16 are similar. Is there any merit to run it at 3600MHz CL24?
  6. After a few hours I finally found it! It was Windows fault all along I have to run to "msconfig" and go to Boot > Advanced Options > Uncheck "Number of processors"
  7. I have tried to clear the CMOS by bridging the CLRTC jumper (Clear RTC RAM jumper), but I am still at 8 Core 16 Threads.
  8. I just installed my Ryzen 9 5950X, and I already enabled DOCP and undervolted the CPU via PBO, but I noticed that it only runs at 8 Core 16 Threads. After some Googling I found out that I have to go to Ryzen Master and set it to "Creator Mode", but I prefer not installing more apps or bloatware into my system, so I am now looking into the BIOS settings, but I can't find it. My motherboard is a ROG Strix X570-F Gaming. I have tried disabling SMT, and I can see the 16 Cores, but at only 16 Threads. How can I disable "Game Mode" in BIOS or what setting should I change to enable 16 Core 32 Threads?
  9. Follow up question: Is undervolting and temporarily disabling cores an option until I get a better cooler? (Will it help bring down the temps?) Would continue using it cause damage to the CPU if I frequently hit thermal throttling temps (which means overheating?) ? I also do video rendering in Davinci Resolve, is this CPU intensive, if I understand correctly, it uses hardware acceleration, so its more dependent on the GPU?
  10. I plan to upgrade to a Deepcool AK620 Zero Dark in the future, do you think this cooler is good enough?
  11. I am upgrading to a Ryzen 9 5950X, but my cooler is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo, but the fans are upgraded to Noctua NF-F12 PWM chromax.Black.swap because the stock fans already failed. Can a Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo cool the Ryzen 9 5950X? I won't mind if it gets loud or requires undervolting. Workloads: Gaming GTA V World War Z GTFO Dying Light Forza Horizon 4 Coding & Compiling C & C++ Xilinx Vivado & Vitis (Verilog) Python
  12. What's with "Update AGESA version" in BIOS updates? Do I have to update some drivers prior or after a BIOS Update or would Windows Updates recognize it after updating the BIOS and install it for me?
  13. My motherboard is a ROG Strix X570-F Gaming at BIOS version 2802. The latest BIOS version is 5002. Do I have to install the BIOS updates sequentially (all the updates between version 2802 up to 5002) or can I skip or directly install version 5002? ROG Strix X570-F Gaming BIOS: https://rog.asus.com/ph/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-x570-f-gaming-model/helpdesk_bios/ What about on other motherboards or laptops, should BIOS updates be installed sequentially?
  14. Would the RAM work at its advertised timings and speed on the Ryzen 5950X or do I have to use the current timings and speed?
  15. I am planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 9 5950X. Currently I have: CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X Motherboard: ROG Strix X570-F Gaming BIOS Version: 2802 RAM: 2x 16GB TEAMGROUP-UD4-3600 What do I need to do before upgrading the CPU? I already checked the BIOS version and it is higher than the version listed below. The current RAM modules are not listed in the QVL, but it is currently working on my current setup. Although I have to manually set the speed and timing. My RAM never ran on its advertised speed ever since I bought it because of Ryzen 2700X's memory controller can't go past 2933MHz (link). Would it damage or cause excess wear and tear to the RAM modules? I don't have BitLocker enabled, but TPM is enabled in the BIOS (only for checking Windows 11 compatibility). Do I have to disable TPM before upgrading?
  16. I got a 5G CPE router and I am planning to bring it with me during my trips. I am unable to remove the SIM Card because my ISP sealed it (warranty void sticker). The router needs 12V DC 2A power. I have found 12v lighter plug to barrel connector, but I think its directly wired to the car's cigarette lighter outlet which can output up to 14v, which I think might damage the router. Are there lighter / cigarette plug type power bricks for powering a router? I am also planning to use a DC to DC converter (voltage regulator), is this a good idea?
  17. My employer is planning to purchase 10 Android phones for a department. He wants to make sure the phone would only be used for work. The phones would only need some messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Viber, and access to cellular calls & SMS. Can an Android phone be locked down such that nothing can be installed on the phone? An exeption would be updates. Can an Android phone be account locked, such that an employee can't put their personal accounts on the phone? Is there an app or a built-in solution that can lockdown the phone for free? I tried Googleing for solutions, but I keep seeing paid ones. There's also the option of just enabling cellular calls and SMS on the phone, basically turning it into a dumb phone, if this is possible or easier to implement. *The reason why he's purchasing Android phones is because our mobile network operator only works with smartphones. We tried purchasing feature (dumb) phones, but they don't work at all on the network.
  18. HP had already taken down the laptop's support page, aside from their site, how to find which CPUs are black-/whitelisted? Or does anyone had experience servicing this laptop model? I did find a service manual here, and it did mention "Intel Arrandale Core 620M 2.26-GHz". Edit: I'm now confused, I found my motherboard's part number and CPU listed on the HP G62 laptop service manual. Are you referring about the WiFi being BIOS locked? I did try searching for wifi chips, and most sellers wrote that whitelisting is required on HP laptops. What keywords do I look for when shopping for the Wi-Fi module? I know, but I want to try anyway. My last resort would be buying a USB WiFi Dongle.
  19. Laptop Model: HP G42-362TX CPU: Intel Core i5 460M RAM: 4GB Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600S-09-10F2 Kreton 2GB DDR3-1066 CL7 Storage: Apple 320GB 2.5" HDD (Salvaged from a MacBook) Wireless: Ralink RT3090BC4 VGA: ATI Mobility Radeon Premium Graphics Optical Drive: (Not working/tested) Use case: I want to learn and explore Linux on the laptop, so I'll be installing Ubuntu/PopOS on it. I'll try to use this laptop as my daily driver. I frequently use Google Workspace (Drive, Meet, Docs, Sheets, and Slides), Zoom, and remote desktop programs (AnyDesk and Parsec) for gaming, running non-Linux programs (ex: MS Office), and running heavy programs (video editing and compiling source codes). I'll also try LibreOfficce, since MS Office is not available in Linux. I'll also use it for watching anime/movies via VLC Media Player (Not sure if this is useful, but I'll put it anyway: Most of them are encoded in H.265 and AV1) So far, I've watched some anime on the laptop, and it plays fine. Google Workspace and Zoom also runs good. Although multitasking is bad, I can't open 2 or more programs at a time or it would become unresponsive or lag. Opening 4 or more tabs on Firefox also makes it lag. As for remoting, it performs fairly good when on wired LAN, and performs poorly on WiFi. It also has difficulties connecting to WiFi with WPA3 security. What can I upgrade on the laptop? CPU: I don't know which CPU is compatible with the laptop. I saw some forums that says the CPU is socketed, so it can be upgraded. Source 1 Source 2: Upgradable up to 3rd Gen CPUs Is a quad core with a lower clock speed better than dual core with higher clock speed? (Core i7-720QM vs Core i7-640M ) RAM: I had experience upgrading a MacBook Pro (Early 2013 Model) to 16GB, when it officially supported 8GB RAM only. I was wondering if this is the same case on this laptop. I'm planning to buy a 1866MHz RAM, because its the same price with the lower speeds. Would the laptop automatically set the RAM to operate at a lower speed if it does not support 1866MHz? Is there any performance benefit in using 'faster' RAMs? Wireless: Your recommendations? I have no idea what I should be looking for. Storage: I can't decide whether I should get a DRAM or DRAM-less SSD. DRAM: Crucial MX500 or MSI Spatium S270 DRAM-less: Crucial BX500 or RAMSTA S800 Optical Drive: I might install a Hard Drive Caddy to increase its storage, if needed. (Thinking about setting it up as a torrenting machine too when at home) VGA: Is it possible to use the Intel integrated GPU?
  20. When I Google or search 5G broadband routers in shopping websites (i.e. Shopee & Lazada), I frequently see "modified" routers, what do they mean and what is the difference between the original / not modified routers? They are also way cheaper (at around PHP2,000 or USD45) compared to the original routers, which costs at least PHP12,000 or USD250. (Screenshots attached below) Are they worth it or snake oil? Just to be clear, I'm not looking for 5GHz WiFi router, I'm looking for 5G broadband (keywords: mobile data, SIM Card).
  21. I just want a dedicated device for hotspot, so in terms of speed/performance, is there any advantage to using a 5G Pocket WiFi / CPE Modem vs a 5G smartphone's tethering / hotspot? I'm eyeing for: Samsung Galaxy A13 5G [Smartphone] Samsung Galaxy SCR01 5G [Pocket WiFi] Huawei CPE 5G Pro 2 [CPE Modem] Green Packet GP Classic (GP IDU D5H) [CPE Modem] Price: The pocket WiFi and smartphone are close, the difference is about USD10-20. The CPE Modem is about USD110-130 more expensive than the smartphone. Use Cases: Gaming (GTA V, L4D2, Overwatch, Parsec) Work from home (Zoom, Teams, Outlook, Remote Desktop) Watching (Netflix, YouTube) Signal Strength: I get around 300-500Mbps on my Galaxy S22 Ultra, and I am very satisfied with the perfomance for the use cases listed above.
  22. Would running Linux with a lightweight distro help? Such as LXLE (based on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS) and Lubuntu (based on Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS)
  23. Is a flash / thumb drive better, such as the SanDisk iXpand, which has an app for backing up photos? What are your thoughts in using a USB Flash/Thumb Drive to backup data/photos? I guess that's the price they have to pay (inconvenience) if they don't want to invest in cloud storage services, like iCloud, or a PC.
