Wattage calculators are incorrect most if not all the times.  A 550w is more then enough for any single GPU system.

Xplo1t reacted to Haro in What PSU should I go with?
    wattage recommendations are always overkill.
heck a 3950x and a 2080ti can run on a good 450w, so an rm550x is more than enough.

Xplo1t got a reaction from gloop in Does anyone realise that sony pricing the ps5 digital edition much lower than the disk drive version would be shooting themselves in the foot?
Sony will make a lot more off selling a game online than stamping a disc.  You are talking dollars vs pennies in this equation.

The math is revenue - retailer margin - shipping/production expense = profit - royalty fees = Sony's profit.   Take away that retailer margin and expenses and there is a larger chunk of profit to go around.

As long as you have a decent internet connection and subscriptions to sources that don't use excessive video compression algorithms, you should still be able to get the most of your 4K HDR viewing experience.

I would personally prefer having a separate Blu Ray player if you need to play Blu Ray discs, you will likely be able to get a better viewing experience with putting that £100 towards a dedicated Blu Ray player such as this one:

I'll also add that Nintendo games (on their console) are complete games, no missing part behind a pay wall, no poor value DLCs/microtransactions (and even then, those are limited), no poor value/complex series of editions to pick, no loot boxes or any sort of real money based gambling systems. Genuine old style game, the way games should be made, and look how much they sale. Outside of indie studios, Nintendo and CD Projekt Red are pretty much the only companies left that makes quality games. I have no problem buying any Nintendo game. Heck, technically speaking, I don't even need to read reviews. The worst I'll get is a pretty good game, as experience. And it only goes up from there.

Even if money is not an issue, SLI is a pain to get working and 99.999% of the time you won't get any improvement.  I wouldn't even bother and just get a 2080 Ti now and then a 3080 Ti or whatever the equivalent is and have a much better experience than you are trying for.  Go for a nice water cooled setup if something else and throw your money at that.

This is the absolute worst time to invest in a Turing card.  As you can see from the NVLink availability, they are not making the parts since Ampere cards will be launching soon. Same thing happened with the Pascal cards when everyone stopped selling the SLI bridges.

I mean, ray tracing on the 3080 is expected to be several times better than on the 2080 Ti and the upcoming AMD cards also support ray tracing as it's already announced for next gen consoles. And considering the fact that most games are built with console in mind for profits, AMD ray tracing will likely get much better adoption than RTX which, even two years later, is still barely used across the industry.

Xplo1t got a reaction from racerz1 in 2080 super change the cooler to AIO?
Look at something like the Fractal Meshify cases.  You will probably spend a lot less to fix the case issue than a bracket and AIO for the card.  Plus, it's very possible to damage the card by swapping out the cooling.  Unlike a CPU, the gpu isn't protected with an IHS and has a bunch of tiny components around the processor.  I'm also not sure how well Gigabyte is with their warranty if you start removing the stock cooler.

If you're looking at pure gaming performance, there's nothing available on the consumer market that you can cobble together to beat it. However, that's just down to custom hardware and software/games optimized specifically for that. It's the same reason why iPhones always have worse specs than Android phones, yet always beat Android phones in performance. It's not that you can't get awesome Android phones that will handle anything you can throw at them, it's just that you can't beat custom hardware and software literally designed for each other.

It's very easy to build in.  I put it together while taking a work call in about 30 minutes.  Some of the issues I found are that depending on the location of your on-board DP or HDMI, that may be blocked by the case frame.  I also wish that NZXT went the extra mile and built a USB hub on the back since you have to turn the case on it's side every time you want to plug something in.

However, NZXT builds quality cases.  They are well felt, fit together well, side panels are rugged and stay in place, plus their tool-less features are well thought out.  Built in a lot of cases, and the H1 and H710 are two of the best I've worked with.

My goal was to build something that didn't take up much room, could hold decently powerful hardware and was easy to move around the house or travel.

    Parts:

    NZXT H1
    Asus ROG Strix Z490-I Gaming
    Intel 10700K
    GSkill TridentZ 2x16GB 3200
    Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB
    Samsung 860 EVO 1TB
    EVGA 2080 Super
    Pelican 1460 Case

Originally, I was looking at a 10900k and 2080 Ti, but didn't really need the extra cores and heat and with the Ampere cards coming sometime soon, hoping to leverage the EVGA trade up if possible.

Why not have them all?  I've put a good amount of time into games across them all and would feel short changed if one was missing.  The Xbox is a little less appealing now that they don't have exclusives.  Pretty much everyone on Xbox Gamepass I play on the PC now, but it's nice to fall back to the console every now and then.

It adds up when you start putting it together and find you need that one special fitting.  Then you wonder, should I buy one, or just get the 4 pack.  After my 3970x build, I had probably $500 of fittings and unused fans.  Then again, the entire setup was probably close to $10k so just a small part of the overall build.
