Ben17 reacted to Arika in Theory on why the Apple Studio Display power cable is 'non-removable'
Sorry, you're talking about the company that has designed to many proprietary cables that can be unplugged and replugged multiple times. So instead of them waiting for a certificate of safety on a new cable they get to be anti-consumer? got it. Also it can physically be removed, that that should mean that are are in breach of the safety regulations would they not?

The M1 iMac has a removable cable, so that's already undergone certification, it can also charge a Macbook via passthrough. So YOU dislike power bricks and therefore it's acceptable to be anti-consumer?

You're assuming Apple will even replace the cable. if it was replaceable they wouldn't call it non-removable on their own website. Also there is 2 parts to a power brick, depends on which part gets damaged.

for a $1500 monitor? it sure as hell is NOT common, i don't remember the last monitor i've seen that didn't have some kind of removable power cord and the only TVs i've seen that didn't have a removable power cable are super cheap chinese re-badges.

I would be complaining about the same thing if it was a Dell monitor. Apple was just the first one stupid enough to do it and have it's fans try and defend it's crap.

I've gotta agree on this one, nobody would have cared if there was an external power brick, it's just another excuse to force a consumer to bring their product to an apple store for an issue that is ridiculous. They'll then probably make the issue seem like it's way worse than it is and make you spend a dumb amount of money to replace a power cable. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Ben17 reacted to Arika in Theory on why the Apple Studio Display power cable is 'non-removable'
There is literally no reason why they couldn't have redesigned the housing of the cable to make it easily removable using the same connectors.

If Apple have said it's "not removable" and made it this extremely difficult to remove, why do you think they would even offer replacement cables? That would make them liars even more than they already are.

it's a DISPLAY, not a computer, the power requirement isn't that high. Who cares if it has a power brick? the M1 iMac does and it's basically the same design and form-factor just with a PC inside, in fact the iMac is THINNER and had a removable power cable.
Don't defend their shit anti-consumer behavior, this was intentional, not "oh, we couldn't find another way to do it"....This is APPLE, their engineers are not morons, they knew exactly what they were doing.

Due to what we've observed with other events over the course of the past year, we've made the tough decision to delay LTX until 2023.

This wasn't an easy decision, but with COVID-19 still affecting events worldwide, this is what we felt we needed to do. Our goal with LTX is to increase interactivity each year as we grow, and we feel that this isn't yet possible for us to do in a safe manner.

We want LTX to return, it's just a matter of when. We've been working on a lot of ideas and partnerships behind the scenes, and are looking forward to sharing those when the time is right.
Sorry for the bad news, we can't wait to see you all in person again.

Ben17 reacted to Luscious in Apple makes my brain hurt...
Apple needs to focus on making a cheaper iPad mini. When the larger regular iPad comes in at $330 there's no reason why the smaller one should be hundreds of dollars more. Samsung used to own the 8 inch tablet market, heck it's the reason why Apple created the mini in the first place because people didn't want to carry a huge-ass tablet around. That need hasn't changed just because smartphones have grown bigger than our pockets can fit them. In my case I need something for use in the car and the small size makes it perfect. It's also the only option for cellular now that (again) Samsung has thrown in the towel and left their mini tablet customers behind.

As for that M1 Ultra, I'm fairly certain those spending $30-60k on "proper" workstation hardware are laughing their asses off. No coincidence that AMD just announced Threadripper Pro 5000 to give all the Apple shills a nice reality check LOL Apple can tout their jewelry box sized space heater all they want. There's something to be said for a massive tower case housing 128 cores of processing power and FOUR of the most powerful graphics cards... all overclocked and custom water cooled like a boss 😎

Ben17 reacted to Spotty in Thoughts on Extra.App?
Looking at their FAQ they're opaque about what it actually is. They avoid using the word "credit" or "loan" and instead say "We spot you the purchase" (aka credit!) and call it "Spend PowerTM" instead of "credit limit", even though they are referring to the same thing.

As far as I can see this is a company doing nothing but trying to rebrand "Credit card" to something else and using people's fear of bad credit ratings to market a credit card with a low spending limit and daily billing cycle as features.

I don't think this should ever be advertised as a debit card that improves your credit score. If you want to advertise it, advertise it as what it really is; a credit card with a low spending limit and daily billing cycle. Some people might see the appeal in that, though I think most people won't.

Ben17 reacted to GhostRoadieBL in Thoughts on Extra.App?
Honestly, I don't understand the card. It's probably much more complicated but it sounds like a credit card and auto-withdrawals from your bank account as if it was a debit card but has a monthly service fee.

What I can't wrap my head around is what happens when they "spot you the funds...today" and you don't have the funds tomorrow? or does it just limit your spending power to the actual $ in your account like a debit card?
How does this company make money when they don't "charge you interest" and don't "sell your information" and give you points for "free" things? $12 a month is not enough to cover the company's leverage on potentially thousands of dollars a month per card holder.

I like the idea, just can't wrap my head around the numbers

Only thing I would want to make sure get's mentioned in ad reads is that it's an USA only service. Since I remember, it took me a while, and it was disappointing to find out that Privacy's electronic credit cards were an American only thing and that there wasn't even really anything close to that in Canada.

Can people stop repeating this utter idiocy? Updates are very important on devices that store private data as well as user finances.

People keep repeating this nonsense because they are so used to utterly pathetic support by 99,99% of Android phone makers who can't be bothered to support anything for more than a 1 or 2 years and we're talking flagship phones costing stupid money. That 0.01% in Android segment is the Samsung which is the only bright exception with outstanding software support from Galaxy A50 series and above. Both, major OS updates as well as timely monthly security updates without skipping a single month.

Updates of apps and stuff that can be delivered through GooglePlay only goes as far. For rest you need firmware level updates and those are only delivered by phone vendor itself.

Daisy chaining USB hubs isn't usually the best thing, as said it could also be a power delivery issue. If needed you can get a USB extension lead or try to directly connect to the side or rear of the monitor to see if that resolves the disconnection issue.

Will the IOSS thing be ever used with LTTStore? It would be really helpful since if it is not, besides paying VAT on [in my case] Swedish side I would have to pay for handling/processing fee (7-10 Euros) and sometimes clearance fee (could be 5+ Euros based on the price and type of the product). If the IOSS implemented, then the customs would let it through without charging anything extra.

i've no idea about the tube amp scene, i'm rocking an amplifier from the days when "tube amps" were just "amplifiers".. but that thing looks FAR too theatrical to be a piece of audio equipment worth your £300.
