What do you guys think of this build?
Ganamede replied to RainGamma's topic in New Builds and Planning
I would go with Arctic MX4 thermal paste instead of Arctic Silver 5. It's non-conductive, doesn't cure and it has better-similar cooling temps. You can find it for like $4-$6 as well. -
So this is what I ended up building: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vdQ3Bb

I got everything working except the aio rgb (and maybe the pump!?!?) So updating windows fixed the wifi problem. I updated to the October 2018 build and everything runs smoothly. The usb problem seems to be fixed as well, however on the Asus website it says that the new bios version (17xx,) fixes some issue with the usb ports. I think that the wifi didn't show up because it is dual channel, and so it probably wasn't supported with the older versions of windows 10. Just hoping that the bios flash fixes the pump rgb..... (been running my computer all night with some medium loads so I think that the water pump is working. Still cool air coming out of the fan case tough.) As of right now I haven't updated the bios; I gotta run to best buy to pick up a usb drive...

Well, I got it working. I had to go to the "ez" mode from the bios, and from there set up the boot order and select the windows boot option. Wasn't really able to do that from the boot order page as it would save the boot order, but it wouldn't reboot (in a novice. Idk how to reboot from the main bios page.) Always, now that I've installed windows 10 (was purchased from Microsoft, not a copy of an updated version of windows,) now it doesn't recognize the wi-fi adapter. Might be because dual channel wi-fi wasn't a thing back when windows 10 was released??? So now I gotta move my tv & my computer to another room where I can use ethernet. I'm hoping that the wi-fi adapter will show up. Might even need to update the bios. Also, I had to install the usb w10 and the keyboard on separate usb hubs (one on the case usb ports and one on the mb usb ports.) Hopefully that's not a problem after the updates, but it's possible that I got something wrong during the build.

Just built an asus z390-e PC but I don't know how to install windows on it. Do I go to the "creator a windows shell in uefi" tab? I tried installing a windows 10 usb, but it causes my keyboard not to work. Also causes the system to hang iff its installed before I boot up the computer. I have a Microsoft windows 10 usb from Microsoft....

Help installing 240mm aio water cooler
Ganamede replied to Squirrel442's topic in Liquid and Exotic Cooling
My corsair h115i pro water cooler has a back plate that fixes to the back side of the motherboard. I got a z390-e asus board... I can't answer that question specifically because I don't know a lot about installing water coolers, but if you're worried about compatibility, check out pcpartpicker.com . You can also link what items you bought so that people can answer your computer related questions more easily. -
Another z390 mb question.....
Ganamede replied to Ganamede's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Watched that video. I think I might buy the Gigabyte Aorus Master board. But is the the best one that Gigabyte offers? ..... so much confusion with this stuff. Linus should just make a thread containing the best of the best so that we don't have to do so much looking around for stuff. -
Another z390 mb question.....
Ganamede replied to Ganamede's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Yup. Everything is still in it's original packaging. I might try to sell it locally over the internet (like craigs list or something,) unless someone wants to buy it through paypal. Or, I might try to sell it on ebay for cheap. -
Another z390 mb question.....
Ganamede replied to Ganamede's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I"ll try to sell it. Idc if I sell it for $200, just want to get a hax mb performance wise. -
Another z390 mb question.....
Ganamede replied to Ganamede's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I did already buy that motherboard, but I might try to sell it and buy a different one. I'm still awaiting the 9900k that I bought from Amazon a few weeks ago... -
So this is my current build and I'm wondering if the motherboard will be holding me back from "the best" performance possible with the rest of the components: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler Corsair - H115i PRO 55.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler $129.89 @ OutletPC Motherboard Asus - ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $238.99 @ SuperBiiz Memory G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $239.99 @ Newegg Storage Samsung - 970 Pro 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $197.89 @ OutletPC Video Card NVIDIA - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB Founders Edition Video Card Case darkFlash - T20 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply SeaSonic - PRIME Ultra Titanium 750W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $163.10 @ Amazon Operating System Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit $94.89 @ OutletPC Keyboard Razer - Huntsman Elite Wired Gaming Keyboard $199.99 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $1294.74 Mail-in rebates -$30.00 Total $1264.74 Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-11-05 21:48 EST-0500 I plan on doing some overclocking on the ram (at least,) and the cpu (for gaming?) The ram is ddr4 14 14 14 34 latency. I know it's not the best board out there for performance, but I just want to raise the ceiling a bit as I plan on using this computer for the next few years.

Mobo and cpu ram support++ (noob)

In the future, you can just check www.pcpartpicker.com You can shop for cheaper prices & it will inform you of compatibility issues. -
deciding on a z390 mobo
Ganamede replied to antimatterdynamite's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I have the same ram kit and processor for my build, but I bought z390 e gaming board from asus. I mostly just play games, but I would like to consider getting better board as well. Are the gigabyte boards really that much worse in terms of the bios? I mean, is the performance on par or better than the Xi board? (Looking for a place to sell my z390-e board (unopened- cheap.)) Also, I mean what's the differences between the bios's? -
need help making a quiet ryzen system
Ganamede replied to tesco value smurf's topic in New Builds and Planning
I would say to get a laptop - especially if it's just for watching videos. Most laptops have hdmi outputs now, so you can just plug it into a tv (find one that has the option of turning off the display.) Laptops are portable.... If you're going to build a pc though, Corsair has magnetic bearing fans, though they're expensive. And buy a psu that has a zero rpm mode (the fan won't spin unless it needs to, and probably won't if you're just watching videos. -
