Just to begin im an anti-wireless charging guy or anything i just see why it liked so much, and heres why.

    1. it's harder to use the phone while it's charging
    2. it charger MUCH slower then current charging tech (samsung, huawei, oppo or even usb pd)
    3. it's not as efficient as wired charging (energy loss)

Guys change my mind, tell me the advantages of wireless charging and why you think its good :D

So they have an extra feature to sell to you, in order to get you to buy their phone instead.

(Reverse wireless charging is awesome though.)

Intel's TDP rating is bullshit. In other news, water is wet

EDIT: Worth noting - the 9900K wasn't even running at it's max clockspeed (I saw 4.2 which is low for a 9900K and the later performance delta confirms this) - so the difference can grow even more when both CPUs are actually going full tilt. In reality, the 9900K's TDP should be 125W or 140W

Doesn't work for phone fans, lights, USB sticks, USB OTG, HDMI adapters, and similar accessories.

Personally I don't have a use for it either.  If it worked like the light based system Linus showed off a while back (but a lot better) that might change my mind, but so long as I have to set the phone on a pad anyway, and it has to be perfectly positioned, and it has to not be made out of certain materials, etc. etc. I don't see that as easier or better than just plugging it in, especially now with USB type C.  But if anything I'm more confused by fast charging than wireless charging.  I just don't see how it would ever be necessary.  On a heavy day I can use maybe 1/3 of my phone's battery, and granted I have more than most people (5500 mAh), but if you do the math, even a 3000 mAh should get through the day like that, and if not, you can't tell me that it's impossible to charge it "slowly" (~1.5 amps or less, which is still not really that slow) throughout the day and still keep up.  Of course, being unnecessary by itself is not a problem, it's the fact that it's also got serious downsides like creating a bunch of heat that reduces battery lifespan while you do it, thus perpetuating the problem and making you need to charge even more throughout the day.

No, they won't. For a very simple reason too: USB accessories.

Not going to happen. Kyocera has proven that it can be done with little effort whilst retaining the 3.5mm and USB-B ports.

The 3.5mm and USB ports don't allow that. The internals of the phone are well sealed off from the port. The ingress points are speaker and microphone openings, and any gaps in the glue holding the screen and back together.

The 3.5mm is being dropped on high end phones to save a penny and try to push wireless headphones.

My experience when I saw a wireless charger dock before knowing that such device even exsist in public, I thought it was a small speaker. When I relize that is a wireless charger I was cluelessly put my phone on it, and it didn't charge my phone. What?!

Later on, I found that I need a wireless charging supported phone to use that. I was like, "meh." what's the point of wireless charger when it can't simply charge all the phone out there which doesn't have special feature, right?

I have a theory that phone cases of the future will have wireless charging capabilities so you'd just plug your battery case in to something instead of your phone.

To further my tinfoil hat theories, the cases of the future might also feature Bluetooth microphones and Speakers to remove points of ingress from your mobile internet device that you sometimes call people on.

People keep saying that its more convenient but i dont get it(well i do exept....), isn't it MORE convenient for it to actually be fully charged when you need it? Wireless charging is just slower and therefore may not be full when needed.

Altruist reacted to steelo in I don't get why people like/want wirelesscharging?
I agree. My wife loves them, but I simply don't get how it's more 'convenient' It's slower and a couple of times I was almost screwed when my phone (that was supposed to be charging wirelessly) died and my alarm never went off to wake me up for work.

How difficult is it to plug in a charging cable?

Altruist reacted to LogicWeasel in I don't get why people like/want wirelesscharging?
Yes but we're leaving out the fact that because wireless charging is less efficient it creates a lot of excess heat on your battery.  Which depending on the phone (and case it's in) and the charge speed can slow charging and be more harmful to the battery as it's not good for it to have excess heat.  Over time likely easier on the battery to charge wired, fills it more quickly with less time for battery to sustain heat (and less wasted heat).

Altruist reacted to mariushm in I don't get why people like/want wirelesscharging?
Sometimes you don't need to charge a phone fast... let's say you come from work and you just pull out the phone and place it on your desk on the charging pad ... no need to search for the charger. You're in no rush to charge the battery fast, you can charge your phone within a few hours. In fact, it's often BETTER to charge the phone slower and prolong the battery life.

No cables also means if needed, you can simply grab the phone from the desk and move around the house or whatever and when done, just place it back on the desk

Efficiency ... it's debatable .. sometimes it's worth trading efficiency for the convenience... it's either 85-90% efficiency for a wallwart charger, or maybe 60% for a  wireless charger powered from a usb port on your computer... so... let's say 10Wh vs 15Wh ... you're paying maybe 60 cents for 1000 Wh ... so it's literally pennies in difference price wise.

Phones don't really consume a lot of power while idle, just waiting for calls ... a wireless charger can easily pump several times that amount of power.

Call me back when I can rig a room up with wireless charging so that my phone will charge as long as it's in that room.

Maybe not that extreme, but you know what I mean. Current wireless charging is pointless.
