  1. I can only agree to all that. I dodn't really know what was supported and what wasn't on linux before starting this thread, but same as you, I can't live without non destructive editing. As a colorist (I'm only getting started in the video game stuff, so that's why I only mentioned the two programs I'm actually getting the hang of) I'm relying hugely on nodes and non destructive abilities found in Resolve, and I would never alter a picture forever even in photoshop. I rarely use photoshop but I will never switch to anything else than Lightroom for photos because I just love the features and UX design. + their all new AI masks feature is just amazing.
  2. Thanks a lot for all who posted advice! I now realize I will never be able to fully switch to linux I will then stick to windows, It's always been about the exclusives
  3. Funny that you'd mention "real work". I do gaming for real work, that's kind of the reason I need ALL games to work. Noticed I need blender, UE5 and OBS to run? Gives you a hint of what kind of work I intend to do. No disrespect but if my issue was about icon placement, I think I would be needing the help of a knowledgeable community, would I?
  4. Yeah that's part of what i've been using and it has unfortunately also caused it's few share of crashes in the last few weeks, even though it's the best solution out there kudos to Valinet. Even with Wine and whatnot? Damn, I guess i am stuck with windows...
  5. Hello community! I require your enlightened minds regarding my possible switch to linux starting today! So windows got the best of my computer AGAIN. I don't do crazy stuff, but I find that I need more functionality out of my computer, and up until now, I achieved such using apps like Stardock Fences, keyboard scripts, custom taskbar shortcuts that lead to more scripts which edited the registry and rebooted apps, etc. Now that windows killed the taskbar, I have to jumps even more loops to have basic functionality that I used to get in XP. Long story short, all that is fun and stuff but it keeps leading to crashes, bad desktop performance and as is the case today, complete OS crash and corruption for no reason whatsoever and I have had it with windows, so I want to install linux to try it out as a dual boot solution for a while. - I have tried live usb for a bunch of stuff, and have found that I like KDE Plasma. I might go for something else but it's an idea. - I have always had a kind of a hands on approach to most things, and that is why I feel like I should be an Arch fan. Even though it's kind of scary right now. I don't really know how much time I'll have to put into the linux adventure and I don't know that I won't get discouraged halfway, so I have reservations regarding Arch, even though it's quite clear that my brain is hardwired for DIY solutions. - based on my fears from above, why not Manjaro? Also, the idea of a rolling distro sounds nice to my noob ears, I need help on that as well. - use case : Davinci Resolve, Blackmagic Fusion, Gaming on ANY game, OBS Studio, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Ableton Live, Unreal Engine 5, Blender. Those MUST run. The idea is to dual boot FOR NOW, and then replace Windows altogether, so I need a solution which can ultimately support all of those apps. Resolve MUST perform, and be able to use GPU acceleration. So there you have it. It my project possible? Is it realistic? Does it take years of work? Are some of my use case apps impossible to use on Linux? How many drawbacks are there? And what distro would be best outside of Arch? Or is it Arch? Huge thanks to anyone who bothered reading all that and has any answer to my questions, i know it's a lot to ask but the internet is so confusing, and basically all articles I read about linux says to choose whatever distro and be magically able to do whatever, but the recent series of LTT videos ab out linux gaming seem to say otherwise...
  6. Thank all who answered, I had to report this project and actually forgot I had asked.
  7. Thanks, I'm in France. I won't go intel because as you said I'd need a new motherboard, and if i end up going the CPU route, i'll probably spend the remaining money on a power supply. Mine works, but is loud as hell. By the way, I'm also wondering how much i could get reselling my 2070 super, maybe that could end up paying for a CPU and go both ways? Or does it make sense to keep both GPUs in the system if I go GPU? I don't really know if two GPUs can be taken advantage of and by what software.
  8. The 5800x is what comes to mind for a CPU although I don't really know if it's enough of an upgrade for my purposes. The 3070 i don't care about since it's only got 8GB of VRAM, and since I'm mainly concerned about getting more Vram for video editing, it wouldn't make sense. As per gaming and most purposes, i'm actually happy-ish with my current 2070 super. As you said, most people don't really need the best of the best, but in this case it's not a most-people type problem, it's a professional 4k raw color grading type problem ^^
  9. Hello everyone I'm looking for advice based on my very specific use case. I have 5 main activities that I want to do on the same computer: 1) Gaming and streaming (With ultra settings in 1440p or 4K if possible) 2) Color grading and compositing (using Resolve/Fusion) 3) Music production on Ableton Live with VSTs and Music Streaming (which means live, low latency use in realtime) 4) Getting started with Blender and UE5 5) Coin mining using nicehash when I'm not at home. My actual rig: Ryzen 5 3600 64GB DDR4 RTX 2070 Super 8GB Budget is basically 1000€, and i'm thinking I should get a 3080 12GB, but I know CPU can't harm since mine is kind of dragging all the time. I know I'm loading it with crap since I have OneDrive running in the background because i'm that guy who hates maintenance, as well as Audio processing for quick access to my instruments. So which do you think would benefit best? Am I gonna be CPU bottlenecked hard when trying to stream live music? Or should I focus on Vram and get the 3080? Also is it even viable to mine on nicehash these days, even with a 3080? I'm barely making 0.30/day with the 2070 Super
  10. Hi! Anyone knows something like that? I don't mind it being bulky. My other solution would be to buy an internal fanless PSU, but place it outside the case in order to not bring any heat inside the case for complete silence of case fans. Why am I doing this? I have a very small apartment, which is also my recording home studio. I find I'm always using noise reduction on all my vocal takes because the PC is too noisy. Anyone knows a better way to make my PC completely silent without using a 700$ passive case that will throttle my CPU anyway can also comment on this :)
  11. Thanks guys, tried all of that and still no dice. I don't know why but the installer still just asks me to uninstall the previous version.
  12. PowerToysReport_2021-11-11-01-26-22.zip "Couldn't uninstall previous PowerToys version" is the only message I get, accompanied by this bugreport that auto creates itself on the desktop.
  13. I was about to give my humble cinematographer's opinion, highlighting the importance of motion blur when shooting motion pictures and the reasons why motion blur needs to be captured in camera using the right amount of frame exposure, for desired effect of natural, smooth motion of an actor's face, or to the contrary, jerkiness and precise sharpness of a war or sports scene. But I clicked on the video that was provided in the original post and it really explained everything there is to know about it very well. I still do have one comment though. I'll always try out motion blur before deciding to use it or not, and most of the time, it'll end up disabled... The reason for this is most motion blur is configured to look good at a console's 30 fps, not PC's 60. Most of the time, when i'm trying to run a cinematic type of game in 4k and it runs in the 30-40 fps, I will enable motion blur for smooth motion and it works wonders. (shadow of the tomb raider for example)
  14. cool, thanks, but I can't find it anywhere.. oh no, I seem to have a problem
