My Youtube shows 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, etc when I click on the gear icon when watching a video.

So, would you like us to stop using the "p" designation?  Is that what all this arguing is boiling down to?

Unfortunately display technology marketing is trash nowadays. With a bunch of misleading terms being introduced which can and does fool the average 'normy'.

LED display for example. Pretty much all LCDs today use LED backlights, instead of the older CCFL, and so comparing one monitor to another with one marketed as LCD and the other LED, will usually lead the 'normy' consumer into thinking the LED one is better, when in fact they use the same tech.

The same goes for QLED, which could just as easily be called QLCD, or QDLCD, and in fact doesnt use the better 'real' QD technology, but rather just a filter layer. So its a LCD with a QD filter. not a QD TV which is what consumers are lead to believe. it was also chosen to try to compete with OLED marketing, its easy to miss the little line on the Q, i've actually spoken to people at work who thought they bought an OLED, but then they tell me its a Samsung and im like ..erm Samsung make QLEDs not OLEDs (this was a couple years back)

Then ofc you got the classic refresh rate issue with TV's. its not uncommon to find those specing 500hz or some such nonsense. The display may have a 500hz settings but its not the input frequency, but rather a motion handling technology.

And ofc the biggest one, and the one i hate the most is the whole 'response time' spec. Which is absolutely always inaccurate and totally misleading, with monitors advertising 1ms response which is total BS since LCD simply cant do that. Not to mention its often confused with 'Input Lag'.

Marketing for Displays is utter garbage nowadays so while its unnecessary to add the p next to the vertical resolution anymore as interlacing isnt used, its just another thing that has stuck regardless.

I mean, it's not incorrect to say 1440p, it is a vertical resolution of 1440 lines, progressively scanned. It's still true even if there are no other scan methods in common use for that resolution
