  1. Update: Memtest ran for three hours with no failures on original RAM, 1660S in second slot worked like a charm, cpu socket looks good and cpu looks good as well. Next is moving the water cooling system so that I can test the first slot with the 1660S.
  2. Given the amount of time I have spent troubleshooting at this point it may have been easier to drain the primary system and put this into it. I really need to get a water cooled test bench to make this easier.
  3. Yes they have been tested in the top pcie slot. Your suggestion is a good one. I have 1660S that I could test slots with so I don’t have to remake tubes for the hardline water cooling just yet.
  4. I have done both individual cards and in SLI. I have one additional bridge I can try as well. I had it running as SLI from the beginning and when the issues started, I decided to swap the cards out individually to see if one was good and the other bad. Thank you for the suggestion on the SLI bridge, I had not thought of that either. However since the symptoms are present when either card is installed individually, I am left with 4 potential causes that I am working on eliminating before just saying the cards are bad. 1. Faulty Memory - currently testing each stick individually on a bench with memtest86 2. Faulty CPU - About to disassemble PC to check pins and all that on the CPU 3. Faulty SSD - Once I test both of the above I will change out the NVME and SSD and see if that is the problem 4. Faulty Motherboard - I will test the cards in a different system once I get a water cooled bench setup for testing (this is the biggest pain about water cooling, trouble shooting is a pain) If all else fails then I will come to the conclusion that the cards are bad, which I am hoping is not the case, but is seeming more likely.
  5. Non-XMP had an identical failure. I will try testing without the 4 sticks next. Your right about the 6+ year old card, I am just surprised that there were literally no warning signs of them going. Everything ran perfectly literally up until the BSODs started. THey occur on both Windows 10 and 11 as well, so I am beginning to think both cards are just bad.
  6. Yeah this has been a puzzling one for me. I have not yet replaced the NVME drive or SSD but have a couple new ones lying around that I could try. In terms of the CPU, is it a full uninstall of the chip and look at it or something I should be able to test. I have completed OCCT for over an hour on the CPU never getting above about 60 Degrees with it.
  7. I am assuming you mean the 32 GB Ram from the base PC and not the VRAM, if that is the case, I have not run memtest on there, but that is a good suggestion, I will try that now. Not sure why I forgot to do that.
  8. Yes, I tried it with each of the GPUs independently within the system. Same error each time. SLI isn't super supported but has been working reasonably until 2 months ago, and the heaven benchmark I believe supports it.
  9. I have an older gaming PC that I have been using as a secondary in the house for years without issue. Starting about two months ago it started having issues when running any kind of game/benchmark. It will load into a game or benchmark and start running it, within about 30 seconds it BSODs with a Critical Process Died or WHEA Uncorrectable Error code. System Specs: i7 8700K (No OC) Asus Maximus X Hero WiFi AC 32 GB Corsair RAM (XMP On) 240 GB NVME 500 GB SSD 2x GTX 1080 Ti (EVGA SC Black, No OC) 1000W Corsair HX PSU Custom Watercooled After the first BSOD, I went ahead and tried a different PSU, removing repasting/thermal padding both GPUs, running each GPU independently in the system, clean installs of Windows, base Windows nvidia driver, new nvidia driver, underclock on both GPU and VRAM, increased voltage 10%, decreased voltage 10%, vbios updated, MB bios updated, all drivers updated, and tried all together again. Symptoms are exactly the same in each test, works for about 30 seconds then BSOD. Interestingly enough OCCT can complete and hour test on both GPU and VRAM without a hitch. What are the odds of two cards dying in the exact same way with the exact same symptoms at the same time?
  10. @GoodEnough Thank you for the suggestions. I was able to find a 5700XT on sale so swapped that for the 5600XT then went for a single 1TB Inland Professional NVME drive which certainly will make installation easy using only 1 drive. Also picked up the Meshify C as you suggested and it does seem bigger on the inside than the Corsair not sure why. I dropped to an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus Motherboard to save a bit. The family that is getting this is not into RGB so I added 3 ML120 fans to keep air flowing. All in all I think they will be happy with this PC.
  11. @eeeee1 Thanks for the input. I will look into a B550 motherboard then. I was thinking the X570 chipset would be better if they wanted to upgrade the processor. As for PSU I have had reasonable luck with my Corsair’s so I thought it may work. @AbydosOne Good suggestions. I always thought it was good to have a boot drive and a separate drive for storage and games. The 32 GB of RAM is only because that is what I have done in the past with my builds, but I like the idea of trading down to get a better GPU if I can find one.

  13. @Frayia Yeah, I have some Cable Mod Custom Cables on the way to help with the lengths on the power cables and should be a little easier to force into areas where the standard ones don't. I have been amazed at the capabilities of the cooling system in this. I came from a build that had a dedicated 480 mm radiator (EKWB XE) for each the GPU and the CPU and the temps were about the same for short spurts of work and gaming. I have tested longer video conversion attempts and the temps do settle in higher by about 5 degrees than the larger build. A few things I have been amazed with in this build so far. 1. The capabilities of the Asrock Mini ITX Phantom Gaming board is astounding. I figured with a limited VRM that the OCs on the CPU were going to be limited and while I guess they are in comparison to the Aorus Xtreme board I was using in my big build, it still hits 5.2Ghz every day on the 1.305 vCore, jumping around up around 1.32 for very very brief moments. The board is supplying great power to the CPU to the CPU and it is doing so marvelously. Now it will not do 5.3 Ghz which I have benched at before on the other board but 5.2 is good for the 9900K. 2. The Corsair Hydro X line seems really well built, I have not done any scientific measurement, but I am getting really good cooling performance with just push fans, through the thick rads. Mounting the one on the outside is a little weird but I love the fact that I was able to get two 240 mm rads for the build to work. 3. I am now in love with mini ITX builds. My big one was awesome and I loved putting it together, but the challenge of finding a way to fit power and lots of it into a Mini ITX system is something that I will do more often now.
  14. Needed to free up my Tower 900 Case for a Threadripper build for a workstation. Everything is "Mostly" in the case. System Specs: Asrock Z390 Phantom Gaming ITX/ac 9900K - 5.2Ghz @ 1.305 vCore 32 GB Corsair Dominator RGB @3200Mhz EVGA RTX 2080Ti XC Ultra 2 x 240mm Corsair Thick Radiators Corsair Pump Reservoir Combo Silverstone 800W SFX-L PSU The cable management stinks but I still can't believe it is all there and the clocks and temps are on near where I was getting to in the Tower 900 Case.

Over the past year I accumulated a plethora of slightly used, couple year old parts for PCs and I wanted to run the following builds by this community and get their take on what I am putting together. System 1 NZXT H500 Case Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi ac) i7 8700K 16 GB Trident Z 128 GB NVME boot drive 500 GB Storage Drive EVGA SC Black GTX 1080 Ti Custom Loop Water Cooling HX850i System 2 Thermaltake Core P5 Case Gigabyte B450 mATX Ryzen 5 1600 16 GB Trident Z 128 GB NVME boot drive 500 GB Storage Drive EVGA SC Black GTX 1080 Ti Custom Loop Water Cooling EVGA 650BQ Do either of these builds throw up any red flags? My plans are to put these together and give them to my neighbors kids for Christmas as they have come over and made comments of how they wish they could build a computer like my personal one. I will include a copy of windows on each one as well but they will have to get the keyboard, mice, and monitors them selves. I just want to know if I am setting them up for a few years of gaming with these systems or will they need to be upgraded some how in the near future? Thank you for your input on this.

  18. @Alex Atkin UK Unfortunately no it is not reporting any specific core, I have tried watching them one at a time. I typically use the hottest core for OCing, was just surprised by the readings on this. Idle it reads 15C which is about 6C over ambient for my 5.2 Ghz OC on the 9900K @ 1.305 vCore. @goto10 I will have to double check but last I ran HWinfo64 it was showing similar numbers. I should not run them side by side correct?

I was always under the impression that my CPU temperature was based on the hottest core, however AIDA64 is reporting a CPU temperature that is about 5-10 C lower than the hottest core, should I just be using the individual core temps as the temperatures that I monitor or is the overall CPU temperature sufficient? Any direction that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
  20. @Sat1600 I will have to give it a go. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Crazy enough we are having a garage sale and despite the fact that almost no one would look at something that pricey I will have it out on display.
  21. It is sad to part it out as it works well all together. My daughter keeps asking me to have it but it is a little more PC than a 4 year old needs.
