  1. Yeah I know, they don't allow setting up wireless networks, which I have no use for regardless, so I was just gonna buy a wired router since they're cheaper anyway, and there are no rules against them. Also can a managed switch get around this or no?
  2. So I recently moved into a dorm at my university, and my dorm currently only has two Ethernet ports, but I have two roommates. I anticipated this so I brought a cheap 5 port gigabit switch with me to split one of the ports. However, it seems that something is done on the back-end where I can't connect more than one device per each of the room's Ethernet ports. If i plug the switch into one of them, and something into the switch, everything works fine, but if I try to plug another device into the switch it acts like it isn't connected to anything. Unless, i disconnect the first device, at which point the second device starts working, and reconnecting the first device causes it to act the same way the second device did at first. Is there anything I can do to get around this or not?
  3. So I purchased a crucial 2TB MX500 SSD and got an Apricorn SATA to USB 3.0 adapter from my friend. When I connected the ssd through the adapter I received an error and this is what it said under status in Device Manager: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor failed." At first I thought it was a problem with the drive so I installed the SSD in my computer and it worked fine. Then I tried connecting my old drive (the one I replaced with the SSD) through the adapter instead, but to the same result. Then I thought it was my laptop so I tried connecting it to another laptop, but again, to the same result. I've tried many many different fixes that I found online but to no avail. I also thought that it may not be compatible with Windows 10, but I asked my friend and he said he has used it with success with windows 10 before. I have Windows 10 1803, with the latest update as of writing this (07/27/18) installed. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  4. Yeah you're definitely right about the bulkiness, anyway thanks for your help man!
  5. Yeah man, both of those look good, and yes it is in USD. I was also looking at this one which also looks really good, what do you think?
  6. Yeah, he prefers a 15'' and a usable battery, so it doesn't have to last 12 hours but at least 4-5 on constant use.
  7. Hey guys, One of my friends wants to get a budget laptop for general use (web surfing, YouTube, movies, etc.). His budget is right around $600 and anything under would be great. I'm basically just looking for some laptop with an i5, that's more or less good value and wont crap out after three months. Edit: Preferably with an ssd, but not necessary. Thanks, Mike
  8. Hey guys, I am looking for a reliable USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter for my ASUS laptop. So far I've tried two models, one from UGREEN and one from StarTech. The one from StarTech was DOA, and the one from UGREEN would constantly disconnect and reconnect at random intervals. So I turn to you good people of the LTT forums, for a recommendation. Thanks, Mike
