Hey, so idk if this is the corect way to make this public but ill try it
Ive purchased myself this sealed 7800X3d for 280euro from the second hand market (OLX in Romania) and you cant test it when it gets to you, just opening the package. The Box looks normal and it was sealed and looked like the seal from amd, ive had other cpus in the past. I plugged it in the motherboard happy to try my new toy, but it wont start. Ive tried different psus and ram. I went to a friend to test it in his system which was running a 7800x3d and it didnt start there. Looked more carefully at the cpu but nothing was out of the ordinary. Looked up the am5 pinout and found the socket detect to be top right with a gnd right under it. Probed it and my cpu dosent have that, while my friends has it.  TL.DR: im 90% sure the cpu is fake and the pcb isnt connected to anything. Tried 3 psus, 2 mobos (b650 plus and b650 aorus elite), 2 sets of ram. Looking under the die there is something but dont think its a cpu. I think its a blank pcb but cant tell.  Also ive made a video on YT showing the non connected socket detect and gnd. https://youtube.com/shorts/IrG7tbGBhsk?si=JdXB26oTMycxoHuN

Yeah, its actually an improvement if this monitor looks the same as SDR, many do look worse.  But still, not worth turning on in the first place, no idea why they bother including support, they don't seem to even widely advertise it on this monitor.

Noah0302 reacted to AntiaLake in Can I enable WDDM on a tesla P40?
Seems it is unable to switch Tesla P40 WDDM mode from TCC mode by this way, but you may try vGPU or moditfy Windows registry.
Here is link for the later:https://blog.csdn.net/qq_45673245/article/details/128555342
Before you doing this please back up registry if it is necessary, assume your OS is Windows10 or Windows11.
    Main steps:
    1. Open regedit as administrator(default).
    2. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    3. Check the subfolder such as "0001", "0002" that DriverDesc is NVIDIA Tesla P40, make sure you are operation here.

    4. modify: "AdapterType", to "1"
modify: "FeatureScore", from "CF" to "D1" (hex)
new: new->DWORD(32bit),"GridLicensedFeatures" ,to "7"  (force to enable Grid driver)
        refresh (F5)
        delete: "AdapterType"
        new: new->DWORD(32bit), "EnableMsHybrid",to "1"
    5. Look for the folder that DriverDesc is iGPU or your display GPU, reference step 3, and navigate to here.
        new: new->DWORD(32bit), “EnableMsHybrid”,to "2"
        refresh (F5)
        reboot computer
(if it is success, you will find the P40 in task manager after reboot. or in CMD type nvidia-smi that P40 has switched to WDDM)

    6. Open Windows settings menu and look for Graphics settings, if you want to P40 for games, add the game.exe to the list and choose High performance GPU. (maybe you need't do this, I just followed the step1~5 and it works well, my OS is Win10 22h2)

    Hope you are doing well.

Noah0302 reacted to porina in Should LMG stop growing? - LMG is becoming more and more corporate by the day
They have to keep going. Nothing is static, and you have to adapt and survive. It is up to them to find the right path.

I stopped following LTT content closely around 2 years ago as I felt I was no longer their audience. What I liked before that was the family feel, which feels lost the more they move into "professional" space as they get more cashflow. Late house era was peak content to me.

    Linus Media Group response:
    https://youtu.be/0cTpTMl8kFY

    From the video
«The Problem with Linus Tech Tips: Accuracy, Ethics, & Responsibility»

„This video is not monetized. This video covers our serious concerns regarding the data accuracy of Linus Media Group, including Linus Tech Tips, ShortCircuit, and TechQuickie, particularly as it relates to rushing content out the door to favor -- by staff's own admission -- quantity over quality. As the company continues to expand into its LTT Labs direction, the importance of accurate data increases; however, even as 'only' entertainment, there are still certain responsibilities to the consumer and the manufacturers to report fairly (and to have defined corrections processes in place). We tried to approach this as objectively as possible and hope that viewers are able to listen to the evidence we present, particularly as it relates to significant and frequent data errors that now present in nearly every technical review video.“

While GN has some good feedback, sometimes it feels like they are disingenuous and create a narrative that does not resonate with what I see from LMG.

Read:  I agree with most of the problems raised in the video, but not everything is 100% the way it is portrayed.

Furthermore, I have the impression that some points, such as statements that lead people to believe that Linus is railroading creators or that the Chief of Labs is utterly unfit for the job, are probably not accurate and not deserved.

To reiterate:  I am not discounting some other points that Steve has made.

Some other uninformed criticism is about alleged conflicts of interest when reviewing laptops while the company is an investor in Framework.

This insinuation is also not entirely accurate.

In trying to set the record straight, GN has fallen prey to inaccuracies in some of their claims. «The pot is calling the kettle black» situation.

I believe that the issues that GN raises are valid and should be taken on board to improve the quality and accuracy of the content.

There are some other allegations that, if true, are very concerning.

We need a frank official response from LMG. The next WAN show is going to be spicy.

Have you tried using those monitors off the iGPU and see if you get the same problem? 7800x3D should support up to 4 displays, but most motherboards I see have at 2-3 native, one might be USB-C DP.

If that 'fixes' the issue, I'd recommend just sticking with it, because otherwise there's likely a hardware/vBIOS issue with the RTX 3090 that you're probably best off ignoring at this point.

Noah0302 reacted to Agall in AMD vs Windows NVMe Raid 0 (2x 1TB)
I ran a 2x1TB SN850x RAID0 for a while and it just wasn't worth it overall. Theoretically you can get more read/write out of it, but I doubt that's worth it over the potentially higher latency of running a RAID0 through the chipset versus just having a PCIE 4.0 4x drive wired directly to the CPU.

A single PCIE 4.0/5.0 4x drive in a CPU m.2 slot should be best in slot over any RAID volume through the chipset.

It was nice having one 1.8TB volume over two 900GB volumes, but in reality, its just a better configuration overall in 2023.

Now if you're talking 2-3 drives all wired through the chipset in a RAID0/5 as a secondary drive? Then sure, just do it through software or the chipset, I'd personally prefer just making the RAID in the firmware AKA chipset.

Hey, I might be qualified to answer since I live in Germany.

All Motherboards I bought came stock with english as the BIOS language, even the Notebooks I bought had english BIOSes.
I just checked on my Zephyrus G14 and I did not even see an option to change the BIOS language to german (I looked in advanced mode), but it was there on my ASUS Z370 Hero X Mainboard.

But I can not say for sure, that all Notebooks and Mainboards are like that, since I only owned a couple of them over time!

Sure, but you need a cursor image (.cur) editor, and basically make them larger.
.cur files are like .gif, but support more colors and transparency. It can be 1 image, or multiple forming an animation.

Noah0302 reacted to GoodBytes in Change Win 11 Cursor size more precisely (1.5 instead of 2)
You can have it a tad smaller than size 2 by simply:
Go back to where you are in the screenshot above, set Size to 1.

Then open the "Mouse Properties" panel.
(Where you are in the Settings panel from the picture above, pick "Mouse" at the bottom > then on "Additional mouse settings").

Then go under Pointers tab. Under Scheme, select "Windows Default (large) (system scheme)".

Alternatively, you can make your own cursors with the size you want, but you'll need to find a cursor editor, and resize the existing one to the size you want.

It's quite normal, especially if you have any tasks etc...running as those accounts. I see 2 of those accounts are interactive logons, one of which is the system (I assume that Windows Font Driver is some sort of standard windows task that runs per user) while the last is a service. If that service is frequenty triggered (stop/start) then that could be whats causing a lot of those entries.

Well CPUs are mostly overkill for servers, mine sits at about 3% on average, the max this week was 40%. Im more limited by RAM, haha 😄

I would suggest using TrueNAS, if you dont want to virtualize with Proxmox or other hypervisors.
This TrueNAS, you still have the option to install Nextcloud for cloud access to your Files or other Plugins later down the road, if you feel like it and it has basic virtualization features.

Best part is, if you use an SSD for boot and HDDs for the storage pool, you can import the pool on a virtualized TrueNAS Installation aswell. Just have to pass the disks through to the VM.

So start out as small as you like, you can always upgrade down the road, just do what youre comfortable with.
