  1. Well I am done with version 15 of it, I tried to get it to run on a much newer machine and it doesn't work. I may try a different version someday. Thx for the suggestions, I'll look into them.
  2. I got slackware installed, but cannot get it to work with a gui. I can login as root or a user, but startx has problems... KDE doesn't work at all and xfce works for awhile until the system locks up. Currently I have a very low opinion of Slackware What I really need is a video showing what to do because I am having trouble understanding a wall of text EDIT: Well I just tried another fresh install and still cannot get startx to run properly or at all on KDE, XFCE, FLUXBOX, etc... I've just about gone through all the options
  3. The HDD itself was called SlackwareDVD with an address of /dev/sdb1 and the directory for slackware was slackware, so I put /slackware and also just tried slackware by itself, also tried /dev/sdb1/slackware and /SlackwareDVD/slackware I also tried other directories like isolinux and usb-and-pxe-installers to no avail. I've look at many tutorials and most are for the 64bit version of slack which has a different installation method.
  4. Does anyone have experience with Slackware? I have an old PC I am try to install the 32 bit version of Slackware onto, unfortunately this PC will not boot from USB so I attempted to boot from another HDD and when I get to setup and it wants me to select the source media I naturally choose that HDD, then it ask me for a source directory and I have no idea what to put as it is not explained anywhere and nothing I try works. EDIT #1: I just tried source from ftp/http server and it doesn't work either. EDIT #2: Looks like I may have found my way to a fix, apparently whilst I may not be able to boot from USB I can still use it as a source drive. Despite the fact the files written to it are exactly the same as the files on the boot HDD this apparently works, as to why I cannot go from the same HDD I have NFI... EDIT #3: Well the hist just keep on coming, I cannot startx on KDE and XFCE crashes...
  5. Is there a list somewhere of headless GPU/Mining cards that you can I assume the term is passthrough?
  6. What about the making of a card using the BGA chip from an old laptop for a 2060, I've see old broken laptops that have decent graphics chips in them. Is it in the realm of possibility for the home user to create the PCB needed to hot air the GPU BGA chip to a PCIe card?
  7. Has a benchmark been done of the difference, if any, of the performance of an SSD for example between the B550 and X570 chipset. Being that on the B550 the chipset connects via PCIe 3.0 and the X570 chipset connects via PCIe 4.0
  8. Would something like this work for a multi-user PC?
  9. Do they have an online store to buy from? For anyone who wants to try cheap weird stuff for shits and giggles without actually going there...
  10. I run my fans off a fan controller myself with manual knobs to set the speed.
  11. Rebuild the system out of the new chassis on the motherboard' anti static bag and start with a paperclip, does it work now? I've had the odd errant case with grounding issues in the past and whenever I encounter a system these days that doesn't work for no apparent reason I do this just to make sure.
  12. I have an old ASUS X53S, it has problems that prevents me using the HDD. However I can boot from USB and I have a SD card slot. I attempted to boot from SD but the BIOS has no option for it. Does anyone know a way I can boot a little USB drive that doesn't stick out to far from the laptop USB port as a boot disk and then have it re-direct to the SD card to load the system? Note: I already bought a replacement laptop, I thought it'd be nice to try and get around the old laptop' dying sata controller because that's all that is wrong with it and everything else works fine. EDIT: I just found something that seems suitable called plpbt-5.0.15 that seems to do the job EDIT #2: I spoke too soon, it doesn't support the SD Card Reader, but everything else... so I am stuck again EDIT #3: Okay I found a solution in plopkexec I burned the iso to a USB drive and now I can boot my internal SD card. EDIT #4: plopkexec is a fail, it worked at first but no longer does... i give up
