homeap5 got a reaction from TopHatProductions115 in Windows Update Testing
Today I first time found a computer that just don't want to upgrade to 1809 from 1803. And, what is strange, it's only one of the few computers I setup using "clean install", not so much settings changed (only basic ones), everything checked, all other updates are installed without any problem, all tools to check every problem in system (and with update) was used, I've trying USB, Windows Update (yes, this computer gets 1809 that way), Microsoft Tool (Assistant) and even allow all telemetry Windows wants / needs / likes including probably my height, hair color and shoe size. I'm just don't understand - why Microsoft can't resolve that annoying buggy update proceudres? if there is a problem and Microsoft recommend to use some tool to resolve problem with update, then why the f*** he don't made just one good updater with all that tools? For example - if Windows Update (that is only an example) is disabled, update tool should ask for enable it, right? Every error means something - if Windows trying to write 10000 files during upgrade and one of them have some problem because lack of some service or other dependences, then WHY Microsoft programmers just stop whole procedure with error? It should give user error and at least "Retry" button! If service "qegsaferxxxyyy" is disabled, then I want to enable it especially for Microsoft (because their updater can't do that) and click "Retry" instead of spending another 30 minutes repeating whole upgrade process that fails at 90%. What a piece of crap.

Good that on my private computers I never had that type of problems, but still - it's not what modern tool should work.

Windows feature updates are so sensitive. They're probably most sensitive piece of software I ever seen. I'm not surprised that someone installs them from zero every release.

I replaced my motherboard the other day in one of my PCs and the license wouldn't reactive. I called windows support, and they asked where I bought my code. I told them it was a grey market code and they were like oh cool and reactivated my windows for me.

That's very cool. They probably don't care so much. It's like "hey, it's much easier for us to activate system for this poor guy that arguing, which would waste of our time". It still doesn't mean that your Windows is legal, it just means that is activated. It's like you stole candy bar from shop and go to police after 5 years - they'll probably say something like "it's ok man, no one reported it to us, so it's yours, enjoy your meal". You're still a thief - just one who isn't worth someone else time, because an hour of a policeman's work is worth more than a candy bar. 🙂

In case someone will really check your key and system, good luck with arguing "hey, someone from Microsoft says it's ok and actiates my system!" ("Who? Do you have any proof?"). 🙂

homeap5 got a reaction from Michael C in Best compromise for "silent" case?
I have a radiator mounted on one of the walls in the room. If it were as you write, in winter I would have a temperature difference of about 20 degrees between one end of the room and the other (I have no fans in my room). It's now how air works, really.

I also made some tests and I never seen anything like 20 degrees difference. Just good radiator on CPU and good GPU with silent fans make 95% of work here. Not 8 rgb fans that mix air.

Not so many years ago people using single small fans in their cases (and we're talking about computers with hot CPUs like Prescott with stock cooler) and cases itself was really crappy. But hey - apparently the air worked different then and now it's more lazy.

"Hotter" usually means 1 degree difference. Don't worry about it.

    Get BeQuiet Silent Base 600.

This code (it's not mine) supposed to be timezone independent, that is getTimezoneOffset for.

EDIT: Finally I found my friend online who lives in different timezone and he confirm that it working (shows my time instead of his).

You should use your SSD drive (or nvme) as much as possible. You paid for it, not for empty space on it. Of course you may keep your free space under 80% if you want to keep your ssd speed at highest level, but you can also use overprovisoning and stop carrying about free space.

You should start worrying about performance if you notice that something is wrong.

Really guys? Do you really believe that your computer will need 800W PSU?
I hope you don't must pay your own bills, because 800W is the same amount of power like 8 x 100 W bulb. It's only twice less than vacuum or washing machine.
Higher margin is of course good thing, but don't ask OP to change his PSU if it's fine. After all it's not your money and bad advices costs.

Gen is generation, x4 or x1 is multiplier. So you have pcie gen 2 which means speed will be limited a lot compared to pcie gen 4.

    Gen 2 x1 has 500MB/s, gen 4 x1 - 2TB/s. For higher speed you'll need pcie x4 gen 3 or gen 4.

But you also have pcie x4 gen 2 which means speed will be about 2TB/s (4 x 500). Not enough to operate at full speed of your drive, but still fast enough. If card is x4 of course.

homeap5 reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Are the keys legit?
There's many, many sites that have Windows 10 Home for around $5-$10. $30 is relatively expensive for keys from dubious sources.

They will work, most likely and they're legit in the sense that they are genuine keys from Microsoft. What is less likely to be legit or completely legal is the method in which the seller first obtained the keys, or that they are selling MDSN or educational keys which are not intended for resale.

There's lots of places to buy genuine keys for very cheap but they're almost certainly obtained in a manner that doesn't follow Microsoft's terms or sometimes obtained using stolen credit cards and the such. I wouldn't worry about the key not working, it's more of whether you want to support this kind of business.

3070 is very good gpu. If you're worry that you don't make deal of your life or best possible buy then you have different problem, but not related to your card.

You must ask yourself - is this card bad? Do you bought it because you must break some world record? Or maybe (just maybe) you want to have good GPU for games? I hope it's the second answer, because in that case you made good deal.

This is really important to not mix too many colors in your pc. People who visit your house will be disgusted when they see your pc. Your wife will request a divorce, your dog becomes ill and the fish in the aquarium will keep you awake at night screaming.

But seriously, if this is your main problem, then open Photoshop or GIMP, and check yourself how it will looks like together. Maybe you can even find videos on youtube.

    Of course buying monitor first.
If it will be enough, you can skip computer upgrade for some time. If not - you'll end with second option and upgrade computer too.

You can't check it other way.

You can buy 144Hz monitor and check. You already wrote about update possibility so I assume after update you'll buy that monitor anyway. So just buy it and check.

Not only for 144Hz but also for freesync, so even when framerate drops, you'll not notice that.

There is no problem with recover - drive still works and all data is accessible, just very slow. So using recovery tools at this stage is dangerous.

Any proof for that? Sorry, but this is simply not true. It's not that if new cpu is released, all old are automatically bottlenecking.

OP: you don't must have stable 165Hz. Gsync/freesync is enough to get smooth gameplay.
