Gen is generation, x4 or x1 is multiplier. So you have pcie gen 2 which means speed will be limited a lot compared to pcie gen 4. Gen 2 x1 has 500MB/s, gen 4 x1 - 2TB/s. For higher speed you'll need pcie x4 gen 3 or gen 4. But you also have pcie x4 gen 2 which means speed will be about 2TB/s (4 x 500). Not enough to operate at full speed of your drive, but still fast enough. If card is x4 of course.

Well, if you don't want to extreme overclock your gpu then any Z motherboard will be fine.

All that "lite", "small", "fast" or other system modifications have not much sense. Your system will be basically the same fast except functionality you remove from it. Look at Linux - all that small, fast, tiny or whatever distros works basically the same - programs do not run faster. The only difference is boot time and ram consumption. In case Windows ram consumption is not a problem (you can't run Win10 on 128MB ram anyway). So just install normal system and that's all you need.

This is for Asus. For MSI is F12, for ASrock (if I good remember) F11 (or F12 too). Don't know for Gigabyte.

Finding drivers on Intel website is painful. Try to use Google to find latest drivers on their website.

It's diagnostic tool that may help you discover what is going on while your system is freezing - look if anything happens then. You can also check what software is running on startup using Autoruns. There is no solution like "press F8, then X and you'll fix your problem". You must diagnose problem and fix it - if you can.

I have better idea, dear guys who always counting every FPS/$. Let OP wait much longer, maybe 20 years, and buy NVidia XRTX Z60090 Turbo on PCI-E x16 gen 8. It will be probably much better GPU and really good deal. Stop confusing OP about what he should do or not. He should be happy that he have pretty good GPU.

3070 is very good gpu. If you're worry that you don't make deal of your life or best possible buy then you have different problem, but not related to your card. You must ask yourself - is this card bad? Do you bought it because you must break some world record? Or maybe (just maybe) you want to have good GPU for games? I hope it's the second answer, because in that case you made good deal.

So try to use Procmon and check what happens.

You may buy in other country, but it still will be expensive. For example here in Poland prices for 7700k starts from 1000 PLN (about 2300 kr) which has no sense when you can buy new better processor with motherboard for similar price. My advice is - use it until you'll really must upgrade, then buy motherboard + cpu. I hope you have DDR4 motherboard. BTW. Your CPU is not that bad imo. Overclock it and should work good enough.

Funny thing is - I read reviews of probably all monitors 1440p with high refresh and all of them have worse ratings than S2721DGF so I think we must wait a little longer for some good technology that combine quality and refresh rate. Today I would probably choose TN panel. Or VA. It may be funny, but I really don't see that "huge" differences between IPS and VA and modern TN. My Iiyama TN has really pretty colors and I don't see problems with viewing angles, even compared to second VA monitor my wife use. I see more differences of viewing angles on my IPS than TN (when I move my head to the left part of monitor I can notice brightness difference that I never saw on TN).
