Wait, what phone do you have? If they are wired, they wont be compatible with any recent iPhones.

Asus Zenfone 6. Thank God they included a headphone jack. I plan to use it at least for 1 more year. I  mainly want to use these with a stationary setup. That's why I'm not much concerned about Bluetooth. I do own tws and wireless neckband earphones as well.

Samson sr850's or 950's (depending on if you want open or closed back)

Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to ask why this over the others mentioned.

Also note: I am not an audiophile or prefer straight flat sound. I am used to Sennheiser sound signature and the issue with Samson sr950 was that reviews mentioned that it was harsh and needed EQ. (My perfect device would be Sennheiser bass level, Sony's punch and Audio Technica's clarity)

I saw those but removed them from my choices because they don't seem too comfortable (on the ear) as I wear specs

  3. Hi im trying to choose between certain budget audio headphones. If you guys can have some input then it will be much appreciated!

    Models

    Amazon links :-

    • Wired

    AKG k92 : AKG

    OneOdio pro50 OneOdio

    • Wireless

    Tribit XFree Go : Tribit

I do not mind if they are wired. I plan to use them with my laptop and just sometimes with my phone. I also own the Sony xm3 for travel and to be honest I like their ANC but Im not a fan of their sound signature.

Wireless is an added bonus but I need them to work well in wired mode because Sony xm3 sound worse without ANC/battery. I love to listen to rock and alternative where I want to feel the guitar strings. So clarity and wider Sound stage or openness is important for me.

I cant seem to choose between these 3. If you have any other recommendations then do mention but ill have to check if they're available in India. Budget is not an issue amongst the 3 so I just want the best option. Thanks.

Questioning people's ultra-consumerism habits is almost always met with hostility 😋

Consume products, and get excited for next products! Oh, and Epic Games LOVES its customers.

if you arent trolling well then you have a weird sense of the world or morality idk.

never been hostile towards and frankly dont care enough to do so either.

this conversation with you seems futile so unless you wanna logically counter my valid arguments and have a decent discussion im out.

    Yeah silly consumer tribalism, lol.

"Benevolent corporation A is going to STICK IT to EVIL corporation B 😲"

As if every corporation isn't equally interested in curb stomping consumers for profit 🤣

ok sure take my wording and criticize it. check the rate for epic store and every other store for devs. check the amount of free games consumers get. if the market becomes open for other players then the price drops. if epic starts becoming the monopoly then steam/apple etc have to drop their prices to compete and if they dont then well their loss but consumers gain. if epic increases its prices, we get options and the consumer/dev isnt in a worse position from where we are right now. it also allows future players to adopt a similar strategy to epic to compete. so whats the freaking issue here?

  6. 12 minutes ago, epicdotexe said:

From the looks of this thread people actually believe silly confrontational actions like this by corporations are about "fairness" or "protecting the consumer" 🤣

Corporations are bound by one rule, and that is to maximize profit by any means necessary. Not doing so is malfeasance, this is a crime 🚓

Epic games does not "have your best interests at heart," and they are not doing this for the benefit of consumers 🤑

even if epic isn't doing it based on values, if it helps both the consumers and devs and sticks it to large corporations like apple which make deals with big players like twitch or amazon or themselves but straight no to small creators then whats the freaking problem? i dont get the argument here. why do people defend it in this way? yes capitalism is good for progress but lets be real here for a second. apple is a 2 trillion dollar company that puts it above most countries in the world! 30 percent for every transaction? really?

Figured as much, I'm currently on the same version and my laptop is suddenly*very* slow (and randomly gets even slower for no reason) also the update completely broke the"harman audio software" on it...

So what you can do is buy a new laptop or actually reinstall windows to fix it which is a very tedious and lengthy process on laptops with all their special drivers and such...

Because it's not really the version of windows it's more that the update process itself meses things up (drivers etc)

    sigh. thanks

  8. 3 minutes ago, Mark Kaine said:

You can always count on that yeah! ;)

However I don't think your issues (slowness?) Come from search indexing, nor your processor...

Windows just as you rightly noticed tend to "fuck things up" and *especially* on laptops is often getting slower with each update.  So the first question would be which Windows/update version is installed on this laptop?

    currently on 1909

2004 available since i had paused updates. haven't gone to it  yet. usually wait for some time for any bad news to come out first.

Do you have 25$? Get a small ssd and set it as cache for your hdd or fresh install windows on it and put everything else on the hdd.

As for you system crashing that should not be happening even if you are on a hdd only system

as i said i want to buy a new system. i was waiting for a SKU to be available in my location but the new announcements are creating confusion for me. considering i would not use this laptop once i replace it, i dont see the point of spending on a small ssd that i wont use anytime later and migrating windows to it. its too much of a hassle.

also i dont wanna spend unnecessarily until at least my job starts because well pandemic.

Indexing doesn't generally happen until the system is idle, so you probably won't feel any difference day to day.  Search Everything still works the same way, it indexes all your files before you'll get the most out of it.  By default Windows only indexes very limited directories.  You can change that.

somebody tell windows that. it bloody thinks its idle even when im gaming with 80 plus cpu and gpu utilization. will randomly start some diagnostic. it will crash because my pc is doing everything to run the game and then starts crash handler which in turn crashes my game.

theres some difference in working of both for sure.

i dont care about search that much in the first place. even i didnt think it would update all the time but articles/yt videos suggest that it gives a boost and i trust windows to fuck shit up.

  11. 2 minutes ago, Samfisher said:

    1. Depends on how you define help.

    2. Not much difference

    3. Your file searches will take a million years longer cos there's no index of where every file is.

    4. I don't understand this question, what does remove search and replace it with everything?  Everything what?

    5. Huh?

1.help as in maybe increase in performance of the hdd in terms of snappiness or random read/writes.

    4. search everything is a separate file indexing tool/software used on windows. i had it at my workplace and it performed way better on that system but theres a lot of hardware differences so im not sure.

    5. see 4

  12. So im using an i5 - 6th gen u processor laptop with just a 1tb HDD inside. NO SSD

Before going in the topic i know my system sucks (gonna buy a new one) until then cant buy an ssd because for some reason they're crazy expensive in India.

    side note:

should i wait for zen 3 mobile cpus and nvidia 3000 series mobile chips for laptops? if yes any idea till when?

So i recently saw somewhere that disabling the windows search indexing helps increase the performance of the disk

    here are my doubts.

    1. Does it actually help in daily use?

    2. Difference in indexing in hdd/ssd?

    2. What will be the impact?

    3. not a big user of search but what if i remove that and replace it with everything?

    4. Is everything better than windows search indexing? can i "pause" it?

Thanks for reading. sorry if its repeated didn't find the topic when searched.

The issue is not whether the GPU will cope but whether the laptop will live that long. Most only last 2-3 years

    my current laptop is 6 year old i5 - 6th gen :(

I dont travel as much with my laptops so chances of physical damage is less. thats why i prefer laptops with better cooling since chnaces of anything dying is reduced.

1.Ryzen 4000 series are great for gaming for budget solution.

2.all gaming laptop that I know has 120hz+ screen refresh rate.

3.If you have no problem of waiting,it's a great idea waiting about 2 months for Zen 3 and decided again for buying zen2 or zen3

the price if zen2 should drop a bit too.

4.4 years of upgrading you should go with 1660ti it's not much expensive, but if you got really low budget get the 1650ti.

im assuming zen 3 will be desktop chips. any idea when the new architecture will come to laptops?

If you arent video editing, the A15s screen is fine. Also, only the 2060 model overheats. The 1650 and 1660 models are okay. I'd you want more than a 1650, this is your option.

You are right to be looking at Ryzen 4000. The 4600H is faster than the i7 10750H and the i5s are much slower, to the point where they should be ignored.

For models, the HP Omen 15, Asus Zephyrus G14, Acer Nitro 5 and Legion 5 are all great. Pick whichever one of them you prefer. The Asus A15 with a 1650/1650 is also decent.

So youre saying 1650ti is good enough to handle 1080p medium gaming at 100hz or so ? because stupid manufacturers dont provide 1660ti models here.

  16. i want to buy a laptop which ill use to program but also game on the side since i dont have a desktop. My current laptop cant run shit and i only plan on upgrading after a minimum of 4 years.

I need help deciding which specs should i aim for. I want performance, battery, good screen and medium 90 to 120 hz gaming.

As far as i know according to my needs i should go for these specs:

    AMD Ryzen 5 4600h

    Nvidia GTX 1660Ti / Radeon 5600M

    144hz laptop screen

    SSD/ SSD + HDD

My budget is around 1000 - 1200 USD.

Please correct me if im wrong in any of these statements/ assumptions and any advice is appreciated!

    GPU

I saw some laptop benchmarks with asus tuf which showed that to get high refresh rate gaming experience ill need the 1660ti chip since 1650ti at medium achieves around 60 fps only.

2060 is out of my budget.

    CPU

Cant go with intel i5 at the same price as ryzen 5 or ryzen 7

Now the problem arises with available laptop SKU.

Asus tuf- according to reviews heats (big red flag for me), bad screen, No sku with 1660Ti in my region!

Asus g14 - NO sku with anything above 1650 Ti in my region and a bit expensive compared to others in the same price range but i guess isnt "budget gaming"

HP Omen - No sku with 144hz display for some reason in my region.

HP Pavillion Gaming -  No sku with 1660Ti

Same for MSI,  acer, etc either they come with intel i5 or less powerful gpu

I need help with understanding if im aiming for the right balanced build or i can make some compromises.

For Eg. if i give up high refresh gaming, 1650ti with 60hz screen on HP Omen makes good sense to me but th question is since im not gonna upgrade for atleast 4 years should i go for 1650ti and a 60 hz panel?

Also should i wait for zen 3 launch and wait for it to come to laptops? is there any gpu launching in the next 4- 6 months ?

    Thanks!

India is looking like a place that many American businesses may move manufacturing and other things to in the wake of the pandemic.  (Apple has been looking into it for a year or two, actually.)  Third world country with over a billion people and high poverty and unemployment rates, so they'll love the jobs.  Plus, they're actually allied with the U.S., unlike China, so it's a safer setup.

They have their own set of problems as a country, but I'll take an informal caste system and Bollywood weirdness over USSR 2.0 any day.

well thats obvious. america wants cheaper labour as always. Thats not the point of the post though. has facebook invested in other network operators? Where are they heading with this? isnt 5.7 billion is a lot to just integrate some apps ?

    Don't use the digital payment?

Im not just talking about me.

Is it always as it seems with fb? digital payment integration is just one thing. As i said jio already has live tv and music competitors they probably will integrate everything. content gets locked and you cant always choose not to use something. With the covid thing going on and government pushing digital payment as going cashless its the right time to make a move.

this is the second time fb is trying something which could lead to privacy concerns. before this they tried to launch "free internet" which provided CERTAIN basic services for free which was denied permission due to citizens actually voting it down. As i said the network rates are pretty cheap due to the huge money bank jio has. if vodafone cant operate anymore then all new users will have to port to jio because the third network cant handle many customers when theyre barely able to operate. Jio is creating a monopoly and i dont trust the govenment. lets just say the owner of jio and the prime minister are good friends. The cyber laws in India arent up to date and all of these reasons i think are pretty valid for concern. Btw i use a jio sim myself so that doesnt help either :/

  19. source1

    source2:video

    source3:whatsapp

    Quote

It is spending $5.7 billion for a 9.99 percent stake in Jio Platforms, the tech subsidiary of India’s Reliance Industries. The investment—the single largest in Facebook’s history—is a giant bet on India’s online growth.

    - source 1

So Facebook invested heavily in India which is really getting really scary now.

For those of you who aren't from India let me clear the situation up.

Jio (4g LTE cellular network) is owned by Reliance industries and the man at the top is Mukesh Ambani (guy in the video in source 2 )who's one of Asia's richest people.

He started Jio publicly in September 2016 and in 4 years already is India largest network operator with 370 million plus subscribers (3rd largest in the world)

He did this by basically destroying the competition by giving away totally free sim cards and charged nothing for LTE for around a year or more.

Because of him alone the LTE rates in India are cheap.

    for eg.

heres a monthly plan for jio

    2.61 USD gives you

    1.5 GB data/day after that slower speed i.e 42GB/month

    unlimited jio to jio calling

    1000 minutes free

    100 sms/day free

jio apps - free streaming apps with quite a lot of content. tv shows, music, among other things.

    Back to Facebook now.

Facebook bought whatsapp a while back which currently has around 2 billion users and of those more than 400 million just in India.

    - data from source 3

    Whatsapp is everywhere in India.

Even the local grocery seller (not a shop) Whatsapps the price of veggies and you can buy them by replying. he will deliver those to your doorstep.

Facebook already tried digital payments with Whatsapp which failed badly.

The video in source 2 talks about integrating Whatsapp with Jio and allowing digital payments.

    This has a HUGE potential.

Jio is already at a position where it will dominate the network operator market. There are only 3 major players out of which one is on the verge of collapse (Vodafone India)

the combination of both Whatsapp and Jio is deadly as the customer base is already quite huge and may not even have many options to choose otherwise.

We all know Facebook cant be trusted at all.

I really fear giving such sensitive data to Facebook.

(This could be a wan show topic i don't know if there's a thread to post these topics somewhere so correct me if i'm wrong.)

Look if they sell ads WITH selling their phone at discounted rate, that’s fair as long as customers know what they are going into

Amazon did similar thing where they can sell you the phone without the ads if you’re willing to pay the extra money which is fair enough as amazon was originally not making money with the device

as i said its fine if i know what im getting into but this is a software update which introduces ads and the problem with them in the system ui is that you cant change its permissions like any app so and for a normal user it would be difficult to detect if they're harvesting personal data.
