MRZL1 got a reaction from WhatComesAround in TR 1950X Build
The cooler might not be enough if it will see heavy work.
I too use a threadripper 1950x stock clocks and under any consistent workload the temp would hit 70+C on the cpu via ryzen master using an H115i.
The coldplate is simply too small vs the IHS on the CPU.
I then got an enermax liqtech 360 tr4 (designed for TR) and a few months later it started to fail.
RMA'd it and got another only for it to suffer the same fate after a few weeks.

I eventually went with a custom loop using EK parts.
Idles at 26-28c and doesnt go over 48c under load.
Best cooler for TR is definately a custom loop if your budget allows it.
If not, I would look at the Noctua cpu coolers designed for threadripper if going with air.

Depends what you are planning to do with your RAM and which cooling solution you are aiming for. 2DIMM-only boards are mostly good overclockers. Maximus Hero X and Asrock Taichi are also quite popular overclocking Boards.

But getting a coffeelake chip to 5.2GHz on a 24/7 overclock without custom loop/offset AVX stable is probably impossible.

Nice car! My usual DD is a 2017 Chevy SS (aka, Holden Commodore). Bone stock, thinking of using it for One Lap next year. The LS3 is amazing, I can't imagine how good a supercharged one would be!

And since I talk about them occasionally....

    Other usual DD is a 98 M3/4/5. It's stock.

Finally, the toy car is a 95 M3. It's very much not stock.

Its Garbage exactly because of that.

You pay two grand for a CPU to mod it/void the warranty and risk killing the CPU in the process.
    Yeah, totally makes sense.
Especially if you can have a CPU that is soldered for less.

The Threadrpper 1950x is less than half of the price of the 7980XE!
We are talking about ~2000€ for the Intel vs. ~800€ for the AMD. Yeah, totally get the more expensive and not soldered CPU...

I was on the Sandy Bridge (2600k) boat for as long as I remember and about a month ago I took the plunge and got onboard with Threadripper (1950x). To summarize, the difference is night and day coming from a 2600k. I work alot with Warehouse Management software and prototype in-house software as well and need multiple VM instances for Test environments for all the different scenarios that usually occur in a production aka LIVE environment hence why Threadripper was a no brainer when considering budget. I'm still updating my profile but the specs are there if you're interested. I work roughly 55-65 hours a week so the progress will be slow for alot of things but it'll eventually happen just like the Threadripper build haha

I am the proud owner of Valerie (2015 Camaro ZL1 6AT)
She comes with 580hp via a 6.2l 376 CID supercharged engine
She just reached 24,000mi (Got her used with 6,000mi)
She is daily driven so the mods are to a minimal as drivability is the highest priority.
Only has a Cold Air Inductions airbox and an Elite engineering Catch can to keep that Supercharger/Cylinder Heads as clean as possible.

    - 2.55 Upper supercharger pulley (to spin it faster, More Air MOAR POWA)

    - Cooling Mods to address heat from pulley swaps (Either a dedicated Interchiller or a larger Heat exchanger)
    - Fueling (Larger injectors like Deatschwerks or ID)
    - MAYBE a camshaft for that noticeable chop but this is the last one on the list since this will affect drivability

G-Sync and 144hz in Full HD (to keep cost down) is rather limited. Have you looked at the ASUS PG248Q?
It will surpass your budget, but not by much. G-Sync ultimately comes with a price and as the saying goes, you gotta pay to play.
If you want to step it up to 2K resolution, you're easily looking at $600+

If you're on the fence about it, I would consider the PG248Q.
You already got the 1080 and that will easily handle almost every game maxed out in FHD at up to the overclockable refresh rate that the display supports which is 180hz let alone 144hz. You might even find some instances where the CPU might be holding you back if you're pushing for that magical 180hz on some titles.
Do let us know if you decide to venture down this path!

MRZL1 got a reaction from 711jrp in Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Allow me to hopefully indulge all the car geeks out there.
I apologize for the long post but think of it as a coffee break!

Joined about a day ago officially on the LTT forums but I've always lurked from time to time just researching and gathering intel for any PC related hiccup i've ever encountered.
My passion is cars and PC gaming. But first, the gaming!

Anyways, here's what you came for:

I am the proud owner of Valerie (2015 Camaro ZL1 6AT)
She comes with 580hp via a 6.2l 376 CID supercharged engine
She just reached 24,000mi (Got her used with 6,000mi)
She is daily driven so the mods are to a minimal as drivability is the highest priority.
Only has a Cold Air Inductions airbox and an Elite engineering Catch can to keep that Supercharger/Cylinder Heads as clean as possible.
Yes - I spend ALOT of money on gas (Premium Only)
    Yes - She whines
Yes - Shes a gas guzzler (Avg 12MPG)
Yes - I work for my car practically
Yes - My neighbors absolutely hate me when I cold start in the morning (Kids love me though)
Yes - I smile all the time when I drive her and first start her up
Yes - I plan on modding her more...

    Future Mods:
    - 2 inch headers

    - ATI Crank balancer with 8.66 lower pulley (MUST SPIN IT FASTER!!)
