  1. I use Autonomous standing desks.

They can l lift from 265 to 310lbs depending on if you get standard or Pro version.

My large ones are 70.5" X 30 and my small ones are 53" X 29".

One accessory is a cable tray.

    A Thousand and One Questions:

Q1: For V2 is it possible to go for 16gb RAM?

Yes, but is limiting with larger 3D projects.

I went to 32gbs mainly for Photoshop.

The free version of Da Vinci Resolve likes more ram as well.

Q2: For V2 is it also possible to go for a B450?

Yes, but the you may want more cores latter on.

Q3: Would a R5 3600 work with a 3060, or would it bottleneck and affect render times too much?

It would not make a difference if you were GPU rendering

Q4: Should I upgrade later, since apparently new parts would be coming out by the end of year and things might reduce in price?

How much 3D are you not going to do in that time.

Q5: Or now, to avoid soaring prices if inflation and supply chain stuff is at too high a risk?

    There is always a risk.

I paid $2,300 each for my RTX 3090s and they cost half that now. Sometimes you have to pay to play.

Q6: Or am i overthinking it?

    No.

Q7: How useful would an NVME be, or is it more of a luxury buy?

It depends on your rending size. Mine was 8k plus so lots of big files to move around.

Also your system is as slow as your slowest drive so if you have HDDs on the system it will not matter.

Q8: Is it preferred to install the OS on a separate partition and/or drive or is it unnecessary?

    No.

Q9: Is resell-ability something I should keep in mind when buying a system or does tech advance too fast for it to matter?

    No.

It is not a good idea to sell at all doing 3D unless the computer/parts are no longer capable of doing 3D.

I used dedicated rending machines and did pre/post production or gaming on the computer that was not rendering.

I started doing 3D as a hobby but it turned out to be the way I made a living so my view on these sort of things may be a bit different.

Q10: Should I worry about BIOS version compatibility or is upgrading it easy enough?

You may have to do an bios upgrade. I did with my X570.

  3. XMP is safe and it makes a difference in gaming.

ASUS  AI overclocking can get a bit hot still. It is one of the reason I use AORUS boards.

With 6th,8th and 9th gen Intel I overclocked. Now I use TVB on 10th and 11th gen. It does better in some games.

Also at 4k there is zero reason to overclock a CPU since you are GPU bound.

  4. I think you will need to find out if you will have a problem or not because some people do and others don't.

I have had problems in the past so I like to use more PSU than I need.

The worst that can happen is that the GPU will not turn on with the computer and the problem with that is you won't know if it is the card or the PSU.

When that happened to me I had another computer with a 1000 watt PSU to test so it was not an issue.

  5. I have a 5900x on an EK 360mm AIO.

This is what it looks like after a Cinebench run.

So it never gets out of the 60s and most games run in the 50s. Some cores are a bit toasty at idle but they are all about the same under load.

Sounds like the way around that one is one of those cheapass goose neck fans that fit in a fan header on your mobo.  Break up that messed up corner.

If you have a like to a link to a fan like you describe please post it.

    I did this.

It is a 60mm Noctua that gets the air moving. I also have one on the CM H500 ARGB the has the EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 ti.

  7. It depends on your setup.

I have a 5000D and have added 8 fans to it and a 360mm AIO so 11 fans.

The case likes to trap air below the GPU so the CPU stays cool but the GPU runs hot.

It was fine with a EVGA 2080 ti and a Strix 3080 with 4 fans and the 360mm AIO. The extra fans are for the 3080 ti it has in it now.

I bought the case for a hybrid GPU build that never happened and I still think they are perfect for that.

All my Gaming computers use cases that have the PSU relocated like the Torrent. The only reason I did not get one is they were having issues when I was buying.

Instead I got Lian Li o11 dynamics with the last one being the EVO version.

Like the Torrent they can have fans below the GPU so they do not have the same issues as the 5000D and the rest of my traditional cases.

  8. I don't think so.

I was a freelance 3D artist and a long time gamer so I have had lots of computers and even more video cards.

I bought 8 30 series cards and have kept 7.

Usually the result of a bad combo is stutter.

It has happened to me with the 9th,10th, 20th and 30 series.

All I have to do to fix it is swop out cards since I have more than one computer. The is not an option for most.

The first time I came across it was with an EVGA GTX 970 in 2014. It micro stuttered everywhere. At the time I had 4 Gigabyte motherboards. Basically 4 revisions of the same board. The card was in a i7 2600k computer and I put it in a i5 2500k computer and no more stutters.

The next card had issues with the same i7 2600k computer that stuttered with the 970. It was my EVGA 1080 SC. The computer had a GTX 570, 570, 680, 970, 980, 980 ti, 1080 and a 1080 ti in is lifetime and stuttered with 2.

The GTX 1080 was a little different since it stuttered with some diver versions and not others. I used DDU a lot with it. It was only fixed when I put the card in an i7 6700k computer.

I also had a Gigabyte Extreme 1080 that had driver crashes all the time and it was replaced with the EVGA 1080.  That card turned out fine in another system as well.

With the 20 series it was my EVGA XC 2080 ti.  It did not like my i7 8700k computer but liked my i7 8086k computer that used the same Hero X motherboard. I learned later that the Hero X was faulty(memory issue) and was replaced with an AORUS Ultra.

With the 30 series it was my EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 ti when it was in my 5800x computer. It stuttered in only a few games but in the i9 9900k computer it did not stutter at all.

The 5800x was fine with an EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti and an MSI Gaming X trio 3080 ti.

The system now has a FTW3 Ultra 3090 ti and a 5900x that run perfectly.

Since I used SLI with the GTX 980 tis and GTX 1080 tis I have had powerful PSUs but I did have issues with my Corsair 850 watt PSUs and my 2 FTW3 Ultra 2080 tis. They sometimes would not turn on unless I switched off the PSUs or unplugged from the wall.

Upgrading to 1000 watt PSUs fixed it but an expert thought It was the motherboard/GPU combo that caused it. My XC 2080 ti is still on a 850 corsair with no issues so I think they were right.

There are several reasons why the situation ended up being the way it was. It's not just miners.

High end GPUs became hard to get for me with the 10 series(1080 tis).  Back then it was mining.

Then with the 20 series the RTX 2080 tis(the good ones) never just sat on shelves. It took me months to get them. My last FTW3 version I bought was only in stock for one day just a few months before the 30 series launched.

So when the 30 series launched there was already a high end GPU shortage and everything else just piled on.

Sorry, I didn't notice it before - so do you think an extra 10 FPS is worth an extra 100W?

    Yes and no.

    The FTW3 is smoother overclocked.

The XC3 can be rough overclocked. It stuttered in some benches.

The FTW3 is hotter and harder to manage.

It is too hot for the Cooler Master H500 ARGB that the XC3 is in so it is in its box. It did fine with the Lian Li O11 Dynamic.

If I was buying another 3080 ti it would be the Strix. It is bigger than the EVGAs and much cooler.

I had the 3080 version. Even using 450 watts it was cooler than the FTW3 at stock.

Is there that much of a difference between a low power model  (365W) vs a high power model (400W+). I currently have a Palit Gaming Pro 3080Ti (max 365W) vs the Gamerock model (max 440W). I can return the Gaming Pro and buy the Gamerock for 80 USD difference. Is it worth it?

Hard to say since I don't know the brands but with EVGA it is definitely worth it.

    I have an EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 ti(350 watts stock) and a FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti(400 watts stock).

Both have been in my i9 9900k computer.

    Time Spy.

    XC3 Ultra    = 17180, Graphic 18871, CPU 11397

    FTW3 Ultra = 18144, Graphic  20425, CPU 11112

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider

    SOTTR highest preset                                   1080p      1440p        4k.

    EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 ti(350/366 watts)        168fps      143fps      83fps

    EVGA FTW3 Ultra(400/450 watts)                 169fps      154fps      96fps

    Horizon Zero Dawn

    HZD at Ultra                                                  1080p      1440p        4k.

    EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 ti(350/366 watts)        147fps      128fps      79fps

    EVGA FTW3 Ultra(400/450 watts)                 155fps      138fps      88fps

With the 20 series the difference between my XC 2080 ti and my FTW3 Ultra 2080 ti was the cooling.

With the 30 series at least with EVGA I think they are also binned. I only have one sample so I don't know for sure.

  12. I test games at ultra and at 4k with a 3090 ti I am at about 100 frames in most games.

With my settings I am close enough to 120fps to not make any difference.

It works out perfectly using OLED TVs as monitors.

A lot of games that come out do not have the detail in the textures or have poor quality LODs so they look about the same at 1440p as they do 4k. So For years I had a ultrawide computer and a 4k computer. It is only recently that I have all 4k and that is mainly because of OLED.

I think if you don't mod games, play building games or sims then 4k is still not a must need.

I do all three so it is a must need for me.

  13. Most of my PSUs are now EVGAs and I get them on sales like this one.

1000 watt PSUs for the price of 850 watt PSUs is a good way to future proof.

The 1000 watt Corsair I bought for SLI in 2016 is still in use with a 3080 ti.

The 3080 you have chosen uses 350 watts.

I have hard no issues with GPUs on 850 Watt PSUs using that amount of power. I have had issues with GPUs using 370 watts plus so I like to use 1000 watts or more on them.

So if you decide to get a Suprim X(390 watts) instead of the Ventus go for the 1000 watt EVGA.

That is more power than my MSI Gaming X Trio 3090 uses.

  14. The think the video represents a certain mind set that I don't have.

I have never gone along to get along.

I am loyal to what works at the time.

A Good example is my feelings about ASUS high end motherboards. I love using them but they seem to have quality control issues. I have had to return half what I buy.

The AORUS boards I use now I like less but I have never had to return them.

It is the same with most things I buy.

I also don't see a lot of brand loyalty here.

The same people that pushed Ryzen are now pushing Intel.

So were they really AMD fanboys or did I just see them that way.

The only difference I see now is in value or what is a better value, so opinion.

The first study in the video is just strange since any group that is not based on a rule of law or authoritarianism turns to chaos.

Even this forum has laws and those that enforce them.

As for survival, even animals put there differences aside to do that. So the water thing was pointless.

The part about Apple and IBM in the video was the laymen's point of view.

At the time you really did not do the same things with them.

I did desktop polishing with the Mac. Desktop video with an Amiga and business programing on the PC. In the end I did all these on the PC.

The hardware did not make the choice for me.

    The Software did.

The desktop publishing software I used on the Mac migrated to the PC and the 3D/video software I used on the Amiga migrated to the PC as well. So the logical choice for me was to go PC.

The part about design teams is a bit silly as well. Competition is just part of good management. It also can make the job more fun.

I designed stuff for a living and It was all competition internal and external.

As an individual or in a group it is all about the win.

Would you upgrade or do a clean install? I agree with yor analogy

    I always do clean installs.

All my upgrades from Windows 7 to 10 were a disaster and I ended up doing clean installs.

All but one of my clean installs worked out fine. So 1 in 7.

I am getting an i7-12700k. IS it recommended that I use W11 on this?

If I was building a new computer I probably use Windows 11.  It is just not a good upgrade from Win 10 on an existing system.

It sort of reminds me of Windows 8 since it was not a good upgrade from Windows 7.

  17. The is the setup I used.

It is a $20 Walmart floor fan up against an open case.

Looks like this(simulated). It is what I used on my rendering rigs before I could afford to keep my place cool.
