Oh strange just seen a few people have been having issues with the latest update on reddit and that’s the same with me and like the update before for them was more stable

Some hardware have issues with some updates.

It is either Windows, GPU drivers or both.

It is one of the reasons I have more than one gaming computer.

At the beginning of this week my i9 11900k computer started crashing in a game. The same game with the same save runs fine on the 5900x computer.

Most likely in a week or two the issue will go away either the a Windows or driver update.

Also every time things start to run smooth and trouble free Windows has to update and that usually screws something up on at least one computer.

2022 has been a bit of a pain in that respect.

Has anyone been receiving system crashes recently since the 516.94 gpu update after playing intensive games for a few hours where all your peripherals turn off but your pc still is on just curious on peoples thoughts?

    No.

Installed on 8/10 on my 5900x computer.

You may having a "heat over time" issue.

It may not be your CPU or GPU but the VRMs on the motherboard so run HWiNFO64 while gaming to see if anything shows up.

  3. I had a 2080 ti and replaced it with a 3090.

The 3090 is much harder to cool and all my traditional high airflow cases were a fail.

The cases that were successful are ones that could intake air below the GPU.

For my build using a Noctua NH-D15 it is a Lian Li o11 Dynamic EVO.

The only other type of case I would use is one that can exhaust out the bottom like the Fractal Torrent.

I want to cool my i9-12900k, my choice is Corsair 5000T with Asus Ryujin II 360 for the CPU and Asus Strix LC 3090-Ti OC.

No problems with the GPU cooling but the CPU is just making me mad as I want to keep it cool as possible therefore can anyone tell me if 360mm AIO is enough for i9-12900k and if not would 2 x 360mm RADS (EK - EXTREME 58mm) keep it cool as frick! i.e. under 85 Degrees atleast

    Nice big case.

    I would use a 420mm AIO.

Intels i9s are relatively cool on motherboards with beefy VRMs.

My 10th and 11th gen i9s game in the 50s and low 60s but I would not use less than a ASUS Hero's or AORUS Master's with them.

If you decide to go with an air cooled GPU ditch the case. All it will do is trap heat.

  5. Since you are not really going high end with DDR5 I would say i7.

Also your choice of cooler is a bit weak for an i9.

As for performance, In most games you will still be GPU bound with either CPU at 4k. That is the reason I still use an i9 11900k and a 5900x in my gaming rigs. At the most I will get 3 frames at 4k going with a 12th gen i9 and the same frames with the i7.

It was more worth while for about the same price going with a 3090 ti since they give me 10 more frames at 4k even over a 3090.

Just looked in hwinfo and it was 1.36v

i though this should be around 1.2v

8700k on a maximus hero board

Mine and my i7 8086ks all used 1.35v.

I still have one i7 8086k at 5.1ghz all cores using it.

    So over 4 years.

I used this old der8auer video as a starting point.

The video also explains why 1.36v is not an issue.

  7. 29.5" is an industry standard. Like 42" is the industry standard for counter high.

It is hard to find tables that are not between 29.25 to 30".

I use Standing tables and some do go lower the 29.5".

Most of my standing are Autonomous SmartDesks and only go down to 29.5".

I have one Autonomous SmartDesk Pro that goes to 26.5" but they cost a lot more(3 stage legs).

Some Uplift standing desks can do 22.6".

My SmartDesk Pro is 70.5" X 30" and can lift over 300lbs but it cost around $1,000. The Uplift that is about same size that can do 22.6" cost about the same.

I got you guys, I downloaded DDU and reinstalled the nvidia drivers and same issu3 happened, do you think 100% it is a windows update issue?

Are we sure that this error video TDR is originated from my graphics card? Should I replace my 3090?

What I would do is buy a SSD, install with a currant version of Windows on it and test. You can either return it or use it for storage later.

You can get another GPU to test. They seem to be plentiful now. Like the SSD you can return it or keep it as a spare.

The MSI 3090 I have listed below is a spare for one that is an editing rig.

If it is a hardware issue the chances are that it is a conflict between the video card and the motherboard.

These types of issues usually start on day one.

I had a Gigabyte GTX 1080 the did the TDR thing but it did it in games and productivity. It was fine in other systems so it was a motherboard/GPU conflict.

Another thing you can do is use another editor like Davinci Resolve. The CPU rending version is free.

If you don't use Adobe products for a living that is what I would do.

  9. This may not help but it will give you an idea how complex dealing with an Adobe product can get.

The i9 9900k computer I have listed below was a dedicated editing machine that used Premiere.

When built in 2019 it used 2x GTX 1080 tis.

In 2020 I converted it to a single RTX 2080 ti.

All it did was crash and get bluescreens.

I tried the usual things to fix it but nothing worked.

Since there was deadlines to meet the computer had to be replaced.

I tinkered with the computer for months and in the end found that it was the Windows install disk I used. It was not compatible with some Windows updates so Premiere ran fine up until windows updated.

So for me it was a Windows issue and all I did to fix was use a newer install disk.

  10. If I run a 2080 on a driver installed with a 3080 it will run perfectly.

If I install drivers on a 2080 then put in a 3080 it will most likely underperform.

I even got this when I went from a 3080 ti to a 3090 ti. With that upgrade it was 20 frames down without a driver clean install.

All you have to do to avoid this is do a clean driver install.

    Looks like this.

    Select Custom install.

    NvidiaDr2.png.cba692b0bfedd273518f9d0d1b789da9.png

    Select Perform a clean installation.

    NvidiaDr.png.d89a3104aaf364bdce4bf9d81c5b7c24.png

  11. It is silly.

I ran my 5900x, i9 11900k and i9 10900k with a RTX 3090 at 4k and it said the 3090 it too weak for the CPUs.

In reality it is the other way around. I need more CPU to get more frames out of a 3090 at 4k.

Here's our test of whether that's bunk or not

What does 20% mean? Does that mean the GPU will be restricted by 20%? Does that mean you'll get 20% less performance? How on earth can we measure a 20% processor bottleneck to verify this figure?

Ultimately, bottleneck calculators provide a number that has no real interpretation.

I use games to get an idea when a CPU is no longer capable of getting the most frames out of a GPU since their % means somthing.

I use the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider to compare CPUs with an equal amount of cores.

    Looks like this.

5800X with SOTTR at the highest preset.

    GPU Bound        1080p    1440p       4k

    RTX 2080 ti          48%       98%     100%

    RTX 3080 ti          38%       84%     100%

    With an i9 9900k

    RTX 2080 ti         36%       86%      100%

    RTX 3080 ti           2%       48%      100%

Then when I add frames it becomes more clear.

    RTX 2080 ti      1080p      1440p        4k

    i9 9900k          168fps      123fps      67fps

    5800x              160fps      122fps      73fps

    RTX 3080 ti

    i9 9900k          169fps      154fps      96fps

    5800x              198fps      163fps      96fps

So with this game an upgrade from a 2080 ti to a 3080 ti with an i9 99000k at 1080p is pointless. At 1440p is livable but not idle and at 4k it is still doing fine.

SOTTR is at the extreme when it come to CPU bottlenecks so it is the worst case. There are games like Horizon Zero Dawn that are GPU bound even at 1080p so it is the best case.

  12. I did not buy one but I did research them since I ended up getting 2 3090 tis so far.

On a bench it runs 6c hotter on the core and 4c hotter on the vram than the EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3090 ti does in a case.

This is still good but not great like the FTW.

At 150mm wide it does not fit in some of my cases. I use Lian Li o11 dynamics.  The FTW3 is 137mm wide with the power connector in the back so it fits all may cases.

The Zotac is also 356mm long vs 300mm for the FTW3.

The Zotacs boost clock is 1890mhz and that is a bit strange to me since it is down compered to other high end cards. FTW3 = 1920mhz, Strix = 1950 and Suprim X 1950mhz.

Since it does not fit in all my cases and does not beat the FTW3 in clocks and temps it is not for me.

Thanks for your input. I agree, a C2 is a TV, but no gaming monitor can come close to it in terms of performance in that price range. For me, there are couple of downsides that prevent me from just buying it, like risk of burn in if not careful, no adjustable stand like most gaming monitors have, no Displayport support and a relatively low refresh rate of just 120 Hz (compared to standard 144Hz on most gaming monitors). Other than that, it's miles in front of competition. But I will check out those 3 monitors you suggested.

I have been gaming on OLEDs since 2019.

With my first 2 OLEDs I used one like a standard monitor and the other for games and streamed content.

The one used as a standard monitor did burn in with the Chrome header. It took 4900 hours to show up. The TV now has just over 7900 hours and has not gotten much worse.

The one that just games and play movies is fine but it only has about 3000 hours.

The no adjustable stand is not an issue for me because I have adjustable chairs and tables.

No display port is a pain thanks to Nvidia since the cards handle the sound as well as the video. Usability can change with a new drivers. Windows has not helped either.

Using computer speakers is a bigger pain since non are better than a high end sound bar. I also like to use ARC.

They also sometimes lose signal if left unused. Again this is an issue with some Nvidia driver updates.

120hz on an OLED is fine. I think It is much better than my 144hz monitor that has a G-sync module. I think you have to go to 175hz like on the AW3423DW to do better but it is an OLED as well.

Also these OLEDs are 4k and I use 3090 tis and I don't usually see frames past 120 with them.

As for text issues, I am using a 55" OLED now and it beats all my 1440p monitors and is about the same as my 3840 X 1600 IPS monitor.

I can not recommend one to anybody that wants to keep them more than 3 to 5 years. For that just use them as TVs.

My oldest one will be gone by the end of next year and its replacement may have fixed most issues I have had.
