Doesn't work on youtube, works on twitch though. I downloaded it from there, just in case the verge has anything to do with it, and as I glanced over it, I didn't see any compromising stuff linus may have revealed. There was an email adress, but that is a very obvious one.
Nowhere near what he spilled the other day.

Edit: Got informed where to look - yup, there was some leakage going on. It's not unreasonable to want that edited out.

would you mind sending a link? I can't find a way to watch it anywhere

At the moment the wan show wont work on youtube for me in any way. It seems like others had been having that issue. I was hoping I could watch it on floatplan. I guess the only other option is to go to twitch.

I couldn't find the stream from yesterday on twitch. Mind sharing a link?

O, if he wants to stream, get a 9900k for sure. Streaming is very CPU intensive, lots of people actually go Ryzen because of it, but if you can afford a 9900k, that will tear games up even while streaming. You will want to get a better CPU cooler tho... I am not sure the hyper 212 Evo I listed would be enough for that bad boy.

Also, I personally don't know about RAM requirements for streaming. I don't stream so I have no personal experience and thus no idea at all.

    ok thank you!

If that budget is within what he is looking to spend, I would swap the 8700 out for a 9900k, and go down to 16 GB of RAM. There are no games that need more than 16 GB. That said, the 8700 is fine.... Maybe taking the money saved on the RAM and getting a RTX 2080 would be a better option as the 8700 will suffice, its quite a good CPU. You could always get the 8700k and overclock it, I have one running at 5 GHz on all cores; it was very simple to OC, easier than my 6700k in my sig was actually.... Although both were pretty simple.

But, seeing as its for someone else, sometimes overclocking can be less desirable; its just more to go wrong. You can save a few bucks on the motherboard and the CPU cooler, and get 16 GB of RAM, and take that savings and get a RTX 2080, I think that would be your best bet and most value added option.

A good heatsink to get is a Hyper 212 Evo. Its an older design, it isn't phenomenal (it used to be the bargain cooler of the century), but its cooling my 8700k @ 5ghz at sub 75c under full synthetic load, and its only 25 bucks..... Also, 3000 MHz RAM is fine, if you can save a few bucks there that is a great option.

The 8700k is 60 bucks more, so unless you plan to overclock I am not sure that is worthwhile... But, it could be a great option down the line if the CPU starts to be a little slow for AAA titles 4 years down the line...

Thanks! The reason I added the extra ram is because he wants to use the pc to stream games, and I heard that generally you want extra ram for a streaming pc, but I'm not sure if that's 100% true. Thanks for the suggestions!!

  5. PC Parts

So my uncle wants to build "a crazy good streaming PC that can play any game maxed out" on a 1080p 144hz monitor. This is what I put together so far, but I'm still kinda new to PC building, especially for streaming. Also the WiFi card is in there on purpose because my uncle can't/ won't get Ethernet in the room he wants the computer. There isn't really a set budget but keeping it around $2,500 or less would probably be good. My uncle also wants the pc to look good with a black and rgb color scheme. Thanks!

To make sure I do a clean install I simply delete the logical volume on the harddisk during setup, and then create a new one and format it.

I think it's certainly a good idea to do a fresh install once in a while.

Windows after all still uses a registry that gets cluttered with old entries after a while.

    Thank you!!

    Hi

Look in Youtube . Look for Windows 10 clean install .

Easy to do . The first one is a bit unnerving .

First You should make sure that you Windows you have, is registered. You can test this in your Microsoft account, your computer will be listed . Or you can check in your current Windows 10 in setting,Security, autorization

Then you are good to go . You don't even have to enter the key in the installation just use the Do Later or something similar.

Great, thanks! I wasn't sure about how to activate windows afterwards since I bought a digital licence through the windows store when I first built it so this helps!

If you have some files that you don't need - delete them.

If you have programs that you don't want - uninstall them.

If you are worry about some files that takes 0.5% of your SSD and you don't know what they are for - leave them. It's not that some files will make your computer more dirty.

Seriously - made something more interesting on computer than installing operating system. You spend some money on hardware so use that hardware not for pointless reinstalling operating system. There is lot of more interesting work you can do on your computer (otherwise it was waste of money).

This is only my point of view, but too many people who wants everything "clean", ends with more problems.

Dude if you can tell me how then please just do. I've got more than 3 empty text documents on my desktop that I would have to remove and I already said I didn't feel like manually doing stuff; it would take forever and wouldn't be worth it. I'm getting VR stuff soon so I need more space but I don't want to dedicate a bunch of time to deleting stuff. Also saying I can do more interesting stuff with the hardware I use is just stating the obvious. It's not like I just sit around resetting my computer all day every day, and I already know how to deal with installing drivers and all that kind of stuff.

If I may recommend something - don't. Your new installation will be not more "fresh", it will be the same Windows, works at the same speed but without all settings you made, all personalizations, all programs. After month you'll install all programs you need and your system will looks the same. It's common myth that "fresh install" makes Windows faster. No, it makes it worse, without any tools, programs etc. It's just pointless work. If you have any problem with your system - many people can help you with that.

Don't made "fresh" install especially if you don't know anything about it (you asked how to wipe everything - that is basic knowledge). You'll end with another questions about drivers, settings etc. If you want you computer to work faster - upgrade it.

I just have a bunch of old files and crap I don't want on here anymore. I know that I can get rid of those by just using the regular old reset, but I'm just trying to get everything back to default. I think formatting the drive will wipe stuff off of it but I have crap on the drive where windows is installed too so I don't know how to go about that. It's not about making my pc go faster, just more about clearing up space and I don't want to do it all manually or do a half assed job where I only get some stuff but not all of it.

  10. So I want a completely fresh start with my pc. I have already got a windows 10 usb drive to reinstall windows, and no I want to completely wipe my drives and have a 100% fresh windows 10 install, not just the delete most of my apps option built into the settings app. I know this is a noob question but how do I actually wipe my drives to get a fresh start? Thanks!

what wireless standard can your router do? Might be a better move to either try and roll out ethernet or look into deploying a mesh network. Heck, ethernet over power could also help maybe

    I have a Netgear AC1750 which supports 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz and 802.11 a/n/ac 5GHz

I can't really move the router itself and using Ethernet would be cool but my house is wired in a way that apparently AT&T would have to come out and wire stuff up for it to work in my room or something like that.

  12. I'm looking to upgrade my wifi card and I have a budget of about $50. I'm looking to get some more range out of it since the router is way upstairs and one that can get more speed if possible. Currently when I play online games like Rainbow Six Seige, I get disconnected for having bad connection and 9,569 ping (which I think is also caused by connecting to servers hosted in faraway lands but whatever) so I'm trying to fix that problem. Thanks!

    Here's my current card: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tTdqqs/gigabyte-wireless-network-card-gcwb867di

And here's my current pc (not sure if this matters): https://pcpartpicker.com/user/1nvasi0n/saved/jYRf8d

Here are a few parts I'm going to change in the near future (Christmas); shouldn't matter at all, but you never know when a stupid random incompatibility issue will surprise you. Also getting black and red cables from cablemod that are designed for EVGA power supplies since apparently there's not a standard for these things? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4fX9Bb

If anyone has some other suggestions relating to stuff to do to my pc I'm down to hear that too. This was my first build I made last summer so I did some weird stuff that I didn't know about back then like getting a motherboard that's pretty decent for overclocking and pairing it with a processor I can't even overclock and having to deal with all the great bonus cables I don't use since I got a non-modular power supply. Thanks for all the help!

You probably need to format the drive. Search "create and format hard disk partitions" in windows and then click the drive and format it.

I can see it in the place you were saying to go and I can click it, but I don't see an option to format it

  14. So I just finished building my first PC last night, and I have a small SSD with a 2tb HDD. I already installed all of the stuff that I wanmt to on my SSD, so how do I set up the big hard drive now so that everything else like steam games will install to that? When I go into the documents of my computer and go to the pc storage, then I can only see the SSD, but if I go to device manager, then I can see my 2tb hard drive and that it's working. Anyone know how to set this up?

I wouldn't go with that one - read that it's an absolute sucker for airflow (I mean the front isn't great, just look at it.)

Speaking of suckers, I'm a sucker of Phanteks and Fractal Design, so you could check them out (the Phanteks P400/P350x depending on your budget or IMO the Meshify C (much better airflow) from Fractal). You could look for alternate cases from reviewers like Hardware Canucks or Gamers Nexus or pretty much any forum. People also recommend the Enthoo Pro Midi M, although it's a bit more expensive than the other ones.

Corsair hasn't made any good budget cases lately, but you could look into the Corsair 275R (although from my perspective it doesn't have great airflow either, you'd have to read about it).

I ended up going with this case.

    https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-CARBIDE-SPEC-OMEGA-Mid-Tower-Tempered/dp/B077GCKBV3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529605630&sr=8-1&keywords=Carbide+Series®+SPEC-OMEGA+Tempered+Glass+Mid-Tower+ATX+Gaming+Case&dpID=41XHNGy8YvL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

It probably doesn't have the world's best airflow, but it looks pretty cool. I actually ended up buying all the parts i needed yesterday; thanks for the recommendation though!

Two SATA cables in the box. You good. And black at that.

If you want Red SATA cables, let's just say you have a lot of options:

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=red+sata+cable&ignorear=0&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Oh sweet! I'm glad they aren't some weird multi colored cables. If I wanted all of my cables to be red, how many should I buy and what kinds of cables?

  17. 2 hours ago, Taf the Ghost said:

What did you end up ordering? Motherboards normally come with 2-4 SATA cables and the PSU will have its entire set of cables. You should have plenty to connect what you bought, just by industry standards. After you get them in, you might think to order some in different colors (Reds are pretty easy to come by) and some cable ties to match. That's, what, ~10USD of parts a week later?

Oh that's actually cheaper than I thought! If you look back at my top post, You can see the latest edit that has a list of the parts I ordered as well as one more edit below saying the couple of things I changed. It's all pretty similar to the part list you read when I first made this post

Hey man, I just finished ordering all the parts that I need for the PC! One last thing I didn't think of though is will all the parts come with all the cables I need to build it? I know they won't be some fancy light up unicorn hair braided cables, but I would hate to get all the parts in and then realize that I forgot some cables.
