dumb ways you thought PCs worked

Some years ago a guy at a computer store explained to me that the i3 was called that because it had 3 cores, i5 had 5 cores and i7 had 7 cores...... i went on to believe him for the next two years... -
So the other day i taught it would be nice to get an extra 7970 for my rig, since i am noticing some lag in games (not much but enough to piss me off ). I checked out my Ebay since its the only online marketplace i could think of that would have used hardware, but 90% of the sellers there are in the US so shipping costs as much or more then the card  Do you guys have any tips for where to shop used in Europe?

OK so you can get some ones IP and you could hack them, but what i was thinking of, was if it was possible to sort of sniff out the data being sent through the network, and save it and then be able to review it at a later date? So that in theory someone at a LAN-party for example could set it up to record a bunch of the Skype calls and stuff, OR is the encryption good enough that even if they got the data it would be impossible to read for them?

So i know Skype is "encrypted" (https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA31/does-skype-use-encryption) but just how secure is it really? I mean you hear all about popular streamers and YouTube'rs getting DDOSed to hell since people used Skype to find out their IP, so just how secure is it? If i were for example attending a LAN-party could someone else on the same network record my conversation/massages/files sent and received? Highly appreciating any input on the matter, as i am clueless when it comes to security for the most part.
