  1. Huh, I logged in again and it's not there anymore. Guess they caught the error or something. Microsoft do love to change the browser from Chrome to Internet Explorer after a while for some reason, so I guess they got some problem with the security info tab.
  2. I went to Microsoft.com to check my account security logs on Chrome, and after getting on (I'm already logged in) I see the activity for 2 minutes ago, which is basically me logging into the website. However, besides saying "successful sign in", it also displays a single "password changed". I know my password did not change because 1) I would've received an email and I didn't, and 2) I tried my current password and it worked, so it wasn't changed. Do anyone know what caused this? It has to be an error but what exactly happened? Should I be worried? I changed my password just in case (and received email alert). Here's a screenshot. The "password changed" on the very top is the one I did, but the "password changed" on the bottom was not done by me. (the IP address was indeed my address, so I'm certain this all came from my computer).
  3. Does that scam work if my mobile company does not allow me to place International calls (I tried to call international once and it told me to upgrade my plan), or are they working around that somehow?
  4. I got a phone call today from an unknown number (likely spoofed because it starts with the same 6 digits as my own number). I picked up but remained completely silent and the other side hung up after about 5 seconds. However, I later remember this might be my doctor checking in for my appointment tomorrow so I called back, but it went into a random lady's voicemail. I think this might just be another telemarketer, but is it possible to get hacked or your identity stolen through a phone call you initiated? Crybercriminals are getting ridiculously smart in their tactics so I thought maybe they can track me down or something through a phone call?
  5. Are the adwares that Filezilla asks to install safe? I never agreed to install them, but some people have reported that Filezilla installed them anyways.
  6. Filezilla was detected as malware (specifically trojans) by multiple virus scanners, including Kaspersky and Microsoft defender. Multiple warnings are also online about it being malware. I had been using it since January on desktop (version 3.40.0) and for years on my laptop. What is up with this? What kind of activities is Filezilla doing on my PC?
  7. Is it possible for certain sequences of actions to cause someone else to download your data stored on cloud servers, specifically OneDrive or Google Drive? Has such a bug ever existed in the past?
  8. Basically, I had this setup: 1) phone connected to NordVPN 2) a WiFi hotspot on my phone using netshare from Play Store 3) laptop (Windows 10) connected to phone So, my question is if I visit a HTTPS website from my laptop, when the VPN sends the webpage to my phone, is the information encrypted with HTTPS the entire time such that my phone cannot read it? I don't trust my phone nor the netshare app to be clean of malware, so assuming that my phone (Huawei running Android 9) does indeed contains malware, could it read either my inbound and outbound information? Diagram in case I wasn't making sense: Website with HTTPS ------------(HTTPS encryption)-------------->VPN---------------(VPN encryption + HTTPS? does the VPN keep the original encryption?)------------->Phone(is the website still encrypted with HTTPS, and can the phone decrypt the HTTPS?)---------------->Laptop Thanks.
  9. Is the Exos supposed to be more reliable? Should I go for a single 8TB Exos (best value) or two 4TB Barracuda drives in raid 1? Both options have similar prices but if the Exos isn't significantly more reliable than the Barracuda I'll go with the two 4TB option so I won't lose data.
  10. Huh, just figured it was pretty weird to add the underscore to the beginning of the name. Guess I'm fairly safe then.
  11. Can they steal data if I'm using websites with https encryption? Also, are all network traffic like Windows updates encrypted with middle man attack resistance?
  12. I was at JFK international airport and there's this Wi-Fi named "_Free JFK WiFi", I connected to it through my laptop and it worked. However, I'm worried that it's not actually the airport's Wi-Fi but some random person's. Could I have gotten a virus? I have bitdefender.
  13. Yesterday I was on my Microsoft Surface Book (first generation) using Firefox to watch some videos and browse the web when I decided to hop onto Chrome instead, but Chrome wouldn't open so I rebooted my computer. BTW, do anyone know why Chrome wouldn't open? It's the first time it happened to me. So, after rebooting, my laptop began doing a firmware update (not Windows update), which is suspicious because the last time Microsoft released a new firmware update for the Surface Book was a week. Could I have gotten a virus in my BIOS? What are some steps I should take to diagnose if I have a problem?
  14. I have a laptop which has a few files that may contain a virus. I have done the following: 1) connected an external disk to the laptop 2) dragged the potentially malicious files directly over from my laptop to the external drive, but the MS Office documents keep saying "properties not found" so I deleted everything that has already been copied over 3) zipped the files up with 7-zip while on the laptop 4) moved the zipped file over to the external disk 5) removed the external disk 6) factory reset the laptop (giving it away later to someone) I do not care if the zipped files are gone forever, they weren't important and I didn't realize that they may have had a virus until after I copied them over to the disk. Right now, I have this disk sitting beside me, not connected to anything. There are other kinda important files on the disk other than that zip file, would it be safe for me to connect the disk to my desktop and delete that zip file? Would that external drive be virus-free? Basically, can a virus be executed or spread to other files by zipping it or by connecting that disk to another computer? How reliable is Bitdefender (my antivirus on my desktop)?
  15. I just got a new issue - I aimed my hairdryer at my PSU and quickly realized how hot it gets. How much heat can a PSU handle? I did a couple seconds on low, but I'm afraid it just fried some components from the 1875 watts of heat it just blew onto everything.
  16. Wouldn't I get electrocuted from opening the power supply
  17. I have this floor cleaner with a water squirter, while using it a tiny amount of water MIGHT have entered my power supply while the computer is on. Should some water particles fall into the power supply, what will happen? Will it release toxic chemicals? Will it break my PC? Is there safety features built into my power supply? I have a EVGA G3 650W power supply, thanks.
  18. The RTX 2070 is not for budget builds. Ask him if he REALLY needs ray tracing, and if he does, will he be ok with a 2060. It's only 20% slower but is cheaper by almost $200. Otherwise, the GTX 1070 Ti (no ray tracing) is great for 1440p and is $150 cheaper than the 2070. It will game in 1440p well. He can then spend the extra $100 or $200 on a better CPU like the Ryzen 7 2700X or i7-9700K.
  19. I have a Gigabyte RTX 2070 Windforce, base clock is 1410/1610 MHz, I overclocked by 200 MHz, should I go more? It seems fine at +200 MHz overclock for both CUDA and memory.
  20. The encryption is pre activated. I know my bitlocker is working, but I just don't know what caused it to suddenly ask me for the recovery key on startup. When I restarted it again without entering my key, it didn't ask for my key and just logged right back in.
  21. Once in a while, when I boot or restart my Microsoft Surface Book it asks for my Bitlocker key. I just restart my laptop again and it's fine. What is causing this? Is my PC infected by a virus?
  22. is the Blue Snowball a major improvement over this mic: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XCKGLTP/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2AN59XOQCTDYD&psc=1 ? If it's not a big improvement I'm fine with saving $20.
  23. My 2070 is using around 50W at the lowest load, as in 50W is the lowest the power consumption will ever go. Is there a way to reduce this to conserve power when I'm not gaming or using GPU compute?
  24. I used Virustotal.com to scan my bitdefender installation file and it turned up with 2 positives, one of which was a trojan. I downloaded the bitdefender free version but it was from their website (I typed in the URL myself). Here is the report: https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/d246796a62fcdf5626cd1fd78e302f41dadf1063c2802df264d162776ced0d5e/detection
