  1. worse case scenario if you don't order online you can always go to an office type store or staples and get a filing cabinet there i got mine from staples and they had a few different sizes there
  2. i completely rebuilt my PC set up last year in jan, spending over 5000 on it i usually upgrade/rebuild my PCs every 4 years or so as for my alienware laptop, its 6 years old, and still holds up pretty good, i like using it for going out of town and the fact that its one of the last 18" laptops that were made ( since unfortunately laptops of that size aren't made any more ) i was thinking about replacing my alienware laptop, but down grading in screen size from 18" to 17" is very noticeable if you are used to 18 and i would rather have a bigger screen then downsize the screen with better hardware
  3. so with that said i disabled windows update, restarted, and problem still not fixed and yes this is a 100% clean install, the ONLY thing i installed on this laptop so far was drivers for the ACP/ACPI devices since windows update deleted them ( lol ? ) but other than that, i have no programs even a "skype" process pops up every once in awhile despite the fact that i don't have skype on this laptop either virus wise, i almost want to say no only because i had this problem on my laptop after i installed windows update last week, and it had windows 8.1, then i started fiddling around with it and thought i would just wipe it 100% clean and use my windows 10 disk on it, and i still had the same problem and i used that windows 10 disk on my PC and had no problems ( my PC disk wise has the OS installed on a 2TB 970evo pro, and then i have x2 WD red 8 TB hard drives for back up ) from what i could gather, apparently there is a firmware bug or some such in the windows update that is causing this problem, and it looks like it either causes problems if your OS is on a hard disk or if you are using raid 0 perhaps or if its only on laptop hard disks/using raid 0 and now it seems that everyday im getting different results with whats going on with this laptop: so i stopped and disabled windows update; nothing happened restarted laptop, and it seemed it took even longer to load than usual then the laptop went right back to 100% disk usage so i enabled windows update again and started the process, and for a couple of minutes it looked like the hard drive was finally going to co-operate, for the first time since the windows 10 OS install i actually saw 0% disk usage but after that now its just all over the place, sometimes it goes down to 0, sometimes it goes up to 100, and sometimes its just something inbetween problem is, regardless at what the disk usage is, my laptop is running snail slow regardless and its actually quite a pain trying to open programs and services and all of that for that reason ( hence the reason why i haven't installed anything on it )
  4. i dont think this laptop came with an ssd, and if it did, it might be the 60 GB "system recovery" drive thing, all i know is when i go to "my PC" it only shows the one drive at 1.35 TB and i will try disabling windows update and see what that does... couldnt find a way to disable windows update, but i do notice something weird in the task manager so running side by side with my PC ( both have the same versions of windows 10 ) on my PC i click on disk and barely anything moves around, every ONCE in a while a program will shift around on my laptop on the other hand stuff is moving all over the place with "service host:" type processes being the ones moving around the most
  5. so a couple of days ago ( Sunday March 24th ) i did a windows update on my alienware laptop before this update my laptop worked perfectly fine and i had no issues then after this update, my hard drive would not stop running at 100%, and no matter what i did, i could not for the life of me not make it run 100% so then i started doing all the trouble shooting in the world, until my laptop became so corrupted that i was forced to completely wipe the hard drives ( they are in raid 0 ) and do a fresh install of windows 10 home and after a fresh install of windows 10 home, i am STILL getting the same problem and even after this, i tried all the trouble shooting techniques from stop certain services, messing around with drivers, messing around with virtual memory and for the life of me, nothing is working at all and its really starting to frustrate me because this should not be a problem at all, as i said my laptop was working perfectly fine after this, so there is no excuse for this nonsense so if there is any tech wizards out there that can spread some magic over i would greatly appreciate it my specs: 18" alienware laptop i7 4700MQ 16 GB of ram ( don't know the speed or type, but its probably dd3 ) geforce 770m graphic card x2 in SLI x2 750 GB hard drives in raid 0 windows 10 home
  6. @UrbanPhoenix the ram i have at the moment is only dd3, so i will need new ram @Jurrunio 1- so if the nvme wont make any performance difference, should i just get a solid state then? also i don't really need the high capacity, that main drive is just strictly for the OS 2- wasn't sure if 16GB was still good enough, but if it is, then i will only get 16GB 3- the western digital HD is only 424 bucks for 8 TB, to buy a whole bunch of HDs it would cost way more ( especially if i were to put it in the redundancy raid which i believe you were talking about? ) plus i don't know if there would even be enough SATA ports to support that many drives @brob not really concerned about RGB silliness, i just need the ram chips to be small enough to fit under that cooler, also i didn't know that win 10 OEM was like that, i have no idea which windows 10 OS to buy, there is a billion options and none of them really give a straight answer on which one i need, i just need a windows 10 OS that will allow me to play games and hopefully be somewhat backwards compatible with older games as well, which windows 10 OS should i get?
  7. So I'm looking at upgrading my PC to be more optimized for some serious PC gaming and max settings, so the hardware that I'm thinking about using are: CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua - NH-D15S 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler ( I refuse to use liquid cooling so please don't suggest it, and I am also going to add two more fans to this cooler, unless you can suggest a better air cooler ) Motherboard: MSI - Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ( Only reason why I'm getting 32 GB is to better future proof this PC ) Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ( Using this for the boot drive ) SanDisk - Ultra 3D 2TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ( Using this for the gaming storage drive ) Western Digital - Gold 8TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ( Using this for media storage; pictures, videos, ect. ) Optical Drive: LG - WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit Budget: doesn't really matter, although I don't want to spend a million dollars, I guess I would like to keep it under 3000 CAD Monitors: I am running two, but I only game on one of them, and I already have two r9 390x in crossfire so I will continue to use those Peripherals: The only one of these that I would be looking for is a nice sound card, people say motherboard audio is just as good, but that is a negative if you actually have a good system, so a recommendation for a good sound card would also be appreciated as well ( Don't mind if the card costs anyway from 200-300 bucks CAD ) So this is the upgrade that i plan on doing, unless someone could suggest better hardware for a gaming PC, I won't be doing any streaming or video editing or really anything that will require multi-core use, just playing games and watching youtube videos pretty much
