  1. No I live in the panhandle area of Texas and the weather is dry heat. However when I track the packages they usually go through Dallas which is humid but I don’t think that affects it.
  2. That would be fantastic. I’m giving them one more shot and I explained the situation. The agent assured me this next one won’t be like the other two how we I don’t really know how much control they have in doing inspection orders like that. Third times the charm hopefully
  3. Theres a small gap is where it’s coming apart. It’s only happening at the top sides of the screen. I’m using Inventor, COMSOL, and some other programs that make me render parts or pictures. I can say I really like Lenovo and I’m glad I took your suggestion in one of my other threads Dackzy, I just don’t want the computer to com apart.
  4. if you have a 4k display somewhere, can you see if the P52 really does have a HDMI 2.0 port? Any thermal issues / concerns under load? Did you opt for the 4k display panel option?

temps while CPU + iGPU load?
temps while CPU + iGPU + dGPU load?

battery life while idle (messing around on the internet, nothing intensive running)

any hotspots on the laptop while under load? My T480 has a really hot spot when it's under load and it burns my lap under load

Around 6 hours of battery life. It’s really good for a bulky 15 inch. It only gets hot when I stress it and even then it’s not searing hot as the fans will cool it down. No hot spots expect the vents. Typing while it fans feels fine.

well it should only get hot when stressed, I mean the temperatures of the CPU and GPU (hwmonitor, not just 'hot')

  5. At $3200 for the i7-8850H, P2000 Quadro, 16 GB RAM, and 512 SSD compared to Lenovo’s $2399 price... I’m not buying Apple prices especially if Dell’s precision is too thin.
  6. Hi everyone. So I purchased the Thinkpad P52, current top model, and I had a full replacement sent to me because the plastic casing around the screen was coming undone at the sides. Well I just received the replacement and it still has the same problem. I need a workstation with 16-32 GB, P2000 Quadro graphics, and at least 512 SSD. Should I get a different laptop or what else could I do?
  7. Well I can’t and don’t feel comfortable doing it. So that doesn’t help me.
  8. Any other stat differences? How comfortable are you with the 13 in?
  9. Has anyone here ever ordered or had experience with using computers assembled by Xi? They are a company that specializes in assembling computer parts for CAD software and they do both desktop and laptop systems. Thanks.
  10. No unfortunately I’m not on any type of academic funding. I was running a simulation just now and it was taking up all the RAM. In fact Lenovo vantage popped up and wanted a BIOs update because I think the cores were overheating a bit. I’m about to rerun the simulation and see how much RAM I’ll need As of now I asked for a whole replacement Lenovo and I should be getting a confirmation soon. I’ll be able to hang onto the laptop until the new one comes on! Edit. I’m kinda broke so I won’t be able to afford the extra ram just yet. And I’m solving 3954077 DOF plus 154905 internal DOF at the moment.
  11. Definitely bad luck. I don’t think I mentioned this in the post but I had a 2016 MacBook Pro that only lasted less than a week as it was overheating around 100 C without me using any type of programs. I’m a PHD student so all the modeling is on my side and I’m using a program that the school doesn’t support. I think going to 32 GB would be enough. I’m going to run some other simulations in the meantime to get a better estimate as my old computer couldn’t handle this stuff and crashed on me. I like Lenovo as th customer support has been great. With Mac, rather Simply Mac, they sold me a defective unit and it was a horrible experience. I waited almost two weeks for my refund. For Lenovo, upgrading RAM would be around $200. I did get a discount when I got the Lenovo so I paid roughly $2400 with tax. Do you guys think there’s something better at that price?
  12. So I purchased the P52 with the P2000 graphics. Less than two weeks of having it and within a week of using it the casing around the screen is splitting. I contacted them and I can get a brand new one or a refund. What should I do or whats recommended? Side note i need more than 17 GB of RAM for modeling
  13. So I think I’ll go for the Lenovo. How much of a difference would the loss of 2 cores but with a Xeon i7 processor be compared to the new P52?
  14. Thank you so much for your help. I’ll try to wait to see what Dell, HP, and Lenovo have to offer. At this point I’m really leaning towards Lenovo or even MSI even if you said they overheat. I’m not a big fan of Dell or HP and I haven’t experienced anything negative from Lenovo or MSI. I would want a Mac because of the operating system but I see there are large amounts of problems people have with their design, specs, etc.
