  1. Budget (including currency): £700ish Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mix of strategy and FPS titles. Other details Ive been playing with 1080p for a long time and am wanting to upgrade. My current system is AMD Ryzen 7 5800X x570 Tomahawk Wifi 32gb 3600 ddr4 850 Watt Corsair RM850X psu MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Gaming X TRIO 12GB GDDR6 (323mm long - it fits in the case with maybe another 10mm space.) 1080p monitor. How it would run with Dying Light 2 or Dead Island 2 would be good indicators. Im getting a AOC 27" Q27G2E/BK 27” 2560x1440 VA 144Hz 1ms FreeSync LED Backlit Widescreen Gaming Monitor so am wanting a GPU to do 1440p at a solid 60+ on modern games. I have no big preference over amd/nvidia i just want something that works and fits Hope you can help clear up the murky waters of GPU buying.
  2. Ok, so i seem to be having an odd issue on windows 10, if i leave my computer on for some time when i come back the screen is dimmer. If i just open up display settings it reverts to its normal brightness. I cant find any setting to do with adaptive brightness, or a power sleep setting or something. Its very odd. Its a desktop PC that hasnt had this issue before and it seems to have only appeared in the last couple of weeks. Any suggestions would be helpful Thanks.
  3. Im not sure if this is the right place to post this. But im at a loss. Last night my PC froze up i dont know why, i wasnt using it at the time and it was only when i couldnt access some files on it over the network i realised something was wrong. I attempted to log into the pc the screen came on but the mouse pointer wouldnt move nor would any keyboard input do anything. I figured it was just one of those things, rebooted it and crashed out. Then this morning it appeared to have done the same thing, only this time the mouse would move, but i could still get no response from the system. Now i know the time that it happened. Ive tried using that "Reliability" program but that just shows when i had to kill the machine with the power button. Is there anything else i can look at to show what happened at that time? Any logs or event lists? Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks Brian.
  4. @Hairless Monkey Boy Boots fine from the original nvme drive as well, ill backup the stuff i stored on there and do a clean windows install anyway, just for safteys sake.
  5. @Hairless Monkey Boy Well i tried the chip in another board and got exatly the same result. Tried a known working chip and it worked perfectly. So looks like the chip has gone. Looks like im going to have to send this off somewhere. Ill contact my supplier. Going to check thw working chip in the other board just to make sure that works fine. Wonder what exactly happened. Anyway thanks again, due to health issues things like this are really dificult for me to sort out and your help made it manageable, your help was invaluable. Kind Regards Brian.
  6. Drive is set as AHCI, I think im gonna have to flash the bios like you said. I have another motherboard i can try failing that. Thanks again. Ill update should anything change. I hate flashing bios i always think something is going to go boom.
  7. it is. It sees the usb stick i got all excited when the screens for picking language turned up, just didnt have the sata drive connected. When its connected it dosnt seem to allow the usb to load, even when picking that from the F11 menu
  8. @Hairless Monkey Boy I made a bootable windows 10 usb stick with the standard windows tool. I plugged this into a rear usb port. i turned the machine on. After F11 i picked that usb stick to boot from it said partition 1 uefi and that was the only option. The install screen for win 10 came up but i noticed that i hadnt plugged my sata ssd in. So powered down, pluged that in, repeated the F11 think selected the USB drive again and it did not bring up the win10 installer. Nothing appeared on screen appart from the display from the mobo where you can hit del etc, but it dosnt stay long. It again went into a loop where lights on EZ Debug LEDs which repeat the same cycle CPU, VGA + Boot, VGA, Boot This cycles round. This is exactly what was happening with the nvme drive. Checking bios, hitting del gets in if your quick, it sees the drive. Could somethign have happend to the bios? Is it worth updating to the latest version? What other issues could it be? Is there some setting in Bios im missing? As allways totaly appreciate your help in this. Brian
  9. @Hairless Monkey Boy Right im not sure whats going wrong now, i have made a fresh usb win 10 installer and it didnt start, that was with using the official win 10 media creator. It went into the boot loop again. Did a little bit of digging and found a program called Rufus, made another installer with that, still no joy. Ive tried various usb ports. Im at a loss of what to do now. Im trying to install it to a standard sata ssd. It is seen in bios, which i can get into if i dont have any bootable thing in. Again thanks for your help in this. Brian.
  10. Hello, @Hairless Monkey Boy Right after removing the mobo and everything from the case i thought i would check what happened if i tried booting without the nvme drive in.... why i didnt try this before i honestly have no correct answer, ask for help and only follow part of the suggestions.... well human nature i suppose. So no drive in went to bios. Put a blank ssd hdd in and it told me to select a correct bootable drive. So looks like it was the drive that is broken. Now some other questions, i have files on c that i dont have anywhere else (i know they should have been backed up). Is there a chance once i have it booting again ill be access the drive in windows? After that is done will i be able to just format the drive and install windows back on it? I know its hard to answer these questions, but your opinons will help me out. Ill be able to just fit it all together now install windows on a 250gb drive then try and salvage whats on the drive then reformat it. Or buy a new drive. Thanks again for all your help in this matter. Brian.
  11. Not even getting that far. Thanks. Will double check bios for boot options.
  12. @Hairless Monkey Boy I ran some kind of ssd self test in bios which said it was fine. But I suppose that could just be physically and not if the data is corrupt. I'll see what happens if I stick the win 10 USB drive in, see if it wants to boot. Going to look tomorrow had enough of it today. I'll let you know what happens next

  14. I reset CMOS, booted to post where it said things had changed i told it to go to setup went into bios everything looked ok without changing everything. Closed bios no changes. Looped start up started again. Removed all but 1 memory stick. And all but the boot drive the nvme listed above. it came up saying that cmos had been reset again, so this time i chose for it to have default settings. and bios opened. I checked and that seemed ok, closed bios and it booted back to bios. It seems that it didnt have the nvme drive as the first bootable, sorted that and it just does the same loop. So next thing to check is the psu? Can they break in a way that they work but dont put out enough power to run the full pc? Thanks for your help again. Really dont like pulling this thing apart.
