I thought my hunt for weird unknown PSUs was over, but not at all. Oh no.
Would you know if the Tacens Radix VII AG is any good?
Some random italian youtube channel claims it is made by FSP, but they do have D Tier PSUs in this list, so they don't always deliver I guess.
It should be noted that is is 80+ Silver-rated though

I've had a shield tablet for over 3yrs, and I picked up my mum one too after her old one broke... At the time you simply couldn't buy a better tablet in the price range... and even though I don't use it for gaming. I couldn't imagine having any other tablet... Especially as it's not full of bloat like other tablets.

I've been hoping for a new one, so I'm really crossing my fingers that the rumours are true... and that it's not going to suddenly cost a lot more than the old one did.

I've also got the 2nd gen Shield TV box that I picked up almost 2yrs ago on sale before xmas... and I use that ALL the time. In fact I've stopped using my mediaserver as a mediacentre and switched to the android Emby app (I have a lifetime sub as I used to help test it back when it was called Video Browser, and before it became MediaBrowser and then Emby, and in some ways it's better than Plex and in others it's not... but Plex is expensive, Emby costs me nothing anymore)... and of course I use Kodi with a range of add-ons.

I'd consider getting another Shield TV for the lounge  too... I've been meaning to upgrade the 40" 1080p smart TV (2014 Samsung Series 6) to a 55-60" 4K one as I upgraded my bedroom TV to a 50" 4K HDR one and it's great... aside from the fact the Shield doesn't do HDR. So let's hope the new one does.

Would this move bring any kind of performance improvements compared to using TSMC's 7nm line?

First half 2020 eh? Well, thanks for screwing over so many people who have just bought Super cards! I'm sure they'll be eternally grateful for your actions, Nvidia.

Which version... the original one was recalled and updated in late 2015. So the replacement is the K1 and that's had zero problems. It's a great tablet and it got updated through at least 5 versions of Android to 8 which for a mobile device is almost unheard of considering most rarely get much in the way of updates at all... and if you are lucky you'll get a single update to a newer android version and that's it... Look at how bad they are at pushing security updates... it takes 6 months or more for most of them.

This is why I'll get another shield tablet, because my experience has been excellent... and I'm more of an AMD video card user because VFM matters more to me and the shield K1 tablet was fantastic value for money... The Shield TV not so much compared to other android tv boxes out there... but again... the sheer number of updates it gets makes that a worthwhile purchase too.

It's odd that I kinda dislike nVidia because of the crap they pull with their graphics cards... and If I'm honest, I never really forgave them for what they did to us 3DFX users after they stripped the company of it's IP and screwed it's users after promising driver updates for things like the Voodoo 5500 and then reneging on it... That SLI thing nVidia is so known for... that's what they wanted from 3DFX. Once they had it.. fuck the users.

So given that level of dislike... I love their Shield line of stuff... go figure.

As long as it's not important... And no, there was a Shield Tablet prior to the K1, featuring the same Tegra 4 SoC as the Shield Portable (the "controller with a screen attached" if you prefer) and that cameout in 2013, one year before the K1 was announced (although this model had battery overheating problems, so the K1 really came out in 2015)

Yeah, the Shield Portable (that's what it was called) was YEARS ahead of its time... And a software implementation failure like I had never seen before. Imagine it with thinner bezels, Dolby Atmos and a high refresh rate screen... Oh boy.

This is why I don’t shop at Alibaba nor use Chinese tech giants’ services (not even Tencent btw).

Two people working at Alibaba confirmed the development of « Xuexi Qiangguo », a propaganda app praising Chinese president Xi Jinping’s policy and reiterating the crucial role of the Communist Party in China, was undertaken by the « Y Projects Business Unit », a shaaaaady branch of the company meant to develop solutions other than for the parent company. The app « dethroned Tik Tok’s Chinese version Douyin and WeChat to become the country’s most popular app on Apple’s China app store » (the app is of course also available on Android).

As bad as a corporation cooperating with a government is, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise to a lot of people as Jack Ma, the company’s founder, is an eminent member of the Communist Party, and China being a dictatorship, it makes its giant tech corporates such as Tencent or *Huawei* cooperate by force anyway. The app has been downloaded more than 45 million people since its launch in January, and part of its popularity comes from the obligation for expansive Communist Party members to download it. The app launched ahead of the annual party reunion that takes place in March.

The real problem is this cooperation creates so many privacy concerns I cannot help but feel sorry for the Chinese people. I mean, no one can certify the app has no tracker or other spyware hidden in the app that the government would have wanted. And if you add the facial recognition system already present in most of China's megalopoles and big cities, well, I feel sad. You feel it, too, don't you?
