  1. Intel 10700(non k), entry level Asrock motherboard, 8gb of RAM, no GPU. Windows 10. I don’t know how to check for a crash dump? Also the crashes seem to be hold the power button to forcefully shut it off rather than a windows sort of crash. Its difficult to get to the PC being in the attic, so taking a monitor up there would be like a lash ditch effort. Also i’m not sure how to check the self reported health?
  2. Hi guys, I have a home server which I use for plex and to run home assistant, which is very important as it works as part of my home alarm. However the system just keeps crashing and requires me to manually restart it. The PC is kept in my attic, with no screen connected and it’s kept in an enclosed server rack with my CCTV camera box. Any ideas how to go about trouble shooting this problem? I can access the PC from remote access app when it’s running which is how I control the machine, any ideas or other information you need from me? Fyi, the parts are 2nd hand intel 10th gen but i’m not sure if they are causing an issue or not.
  3. Will this restart the PC if it freezes in windows? It seems my server crashes in windows and doesn’t auto reboot like it’s meant to do
  4. I think they are just general crashes, they don’t have super often but my Pc is on 24/7 and I can’t see the crash message because I can only view my Pc on remote access, I don’t have a monitor attached to it
  5. Hi, so I have a home server PC which I run home assistant and plex off, iv place it in my attic/loft so it’s not easily accessible. I have a remote access program which I can log into to do anything on the Pc which works fine and upon reboot, I have my HA and plex auto start. But sometimes my server crashes and doesn’t auto restart so I have to manually turn it off which is pretty awkward and inconvenient consider I have automations which run off it. What can I do to make sure my server just auto restarts it self if it detects a crash? It’s running windows 10 and the type of crash I have to hold the power button so it forcefully turns off
  6. Thanks I ordered one, hopefully it’s all okay
  7. Yeah at the time I got the rack I assumed it all came in standard sizes like with the width but I was wrong. That case looks great but it’s tough to get in the UK, it costs £300. I have managed to find another one could you take a look and see if you can see any obvious red flags, i’m going to leave it unsecured at the bottom of my rack as that gives me an extra 70mm for the depth. https://www.servercase.co.uk/shop/server-cases/rackmount/3u-chassis/3u-short-depth-chassis-with-aluminium-louver-front-up-to-9-x-35-hdd-sc-3380/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwn_OlBhDhARIsAG2y6zNZUMAbiGHxsLCY0Vsuo-SRT27fOFFhseSWoNhhTx3_Oj89mFf9TccaAp0oEALw_wcB
  8. Initially I got a server rack, for home use not knowing much about them and the one I got was 450mm 6U closer server. At the time I didn’t know much about depth etc and now i’m struggling to find a solution which would work for my server due to the limited space. Im building a home server Pc with some parts I already have laying around which includes and full ATX motherboard and a full sized PSU. I just can’t find a case which fits my needs now, I messed the inside of my server so I have 350mm in depth and the standard, 19inch wide rack mounts with 4Us in heights. I need help find a case which will fit my requirements, ideally a server case but if not i’m not opposed to a desktop case out on its side if I can find one to fit in the case. Any suggestions please?
  9. API access would be a no, but I think a macro work around might be possible
  10. So I work for a bank and have to do some boring routine checks when customers call. It’s super repetitive and I think can be automated super easy. An example of what I do is, copy and paste an IP address from one program onto a website which gives me a location and then copy the customers address to compare how far the IP location is from the home address and paste the answer into work. Just tasks like this take a while and are super boring. Is there a way to automate something like this? All icons will usually be in the same place or can be put in the same place if needed?
  11. That PC looks insane for the price, thank you very much
  12. So i’m looking for a mini PC to hook up in my kitchen behind my TV to show a live feed from my cameras and run home assistant. My camera software app is called Annke Vision and although it does not list specs on the website to run this app I have took logs from my main PC. My main PC is a 5900x with a 3080 and it uses up to 10% of my CPU and GPU usage sitting at 17-25% with frequent spike up to 40%. Ideally I want the PC to be low power as it’s going to be always on, ideally below 40w. I also don’t want it to cost a fortune hopefully under £250 and i’d say roughly the size of a home router. Any good options to recommend?
  13. That’s a pretty good idea, I might look for another case as that one is a little expensive but I really like the idea of just making a DIY one
  14. That’s a good options but sadly it’s just a little too tall at 5u
  15. Hi so i’v never got a rack mount case before so I apologies if what i’m asking for doesn’t exist. I need a PC case that supports any size up to 4U but a depth of 400mm as my rack mount housing is only 450mm deep and I think 50mm should be enough for cables. Ideally about to support a normal PSU not a server one and a full size PSU if possible, support for 2 HDDs, full ATX motherboard as i’ll be running a 10th gen system. I don’t need any space for a GPU as I won’t have one. Iv been looking for something that fits this build but a lot of the server cases don’t tell you information of what they support like regular PCs. Or even if there is a way to rack mount a regular PC case that fits the size specs i’ll do that too. Any suggestions would be great thanks
  16. I think i’m might use an M disk and either a Nand or HDD, but judging from your comments a HDD seems more appropriate. I’ll try and find a way to shock proof it as much as I can, any type of HDD you recommend like a NAS HDD or a particular brand? Iv heard a lot of good things about WD drives.
  17. This was exactly my thoughts with CD and Tapes. They are reliable but trying to find something to play the media will be really annoying
  18. Yes this is kind of what i’m doing but I have a laminated printout in a safety deposit box, i’m not trying to take any risks.
  19. I’m not too keen of a media which has the possibility of being hack, even if it’s extremely unlucky like cloud for example. But I definitely will be using 3 offline media sources
  20. I’m thinking of M-Disk and maybe a flash drive seems like the best bet.
  21. This is essentially what i’m doing but I don’t want to use any media that has the chance of being hacked so i’m not too keen on cloud. I have an offsite backup, this will be my on site backup
  22. Hi so I need to some important documents and I essentially need them to be to stored for a lifetime. This device will be used initially to write the document on and then left in storage unused for possibly upwards of 30 years as it is an emergency back up so so need it to work. Iv seen people say a USB flash drive could last up to 10 years but i’m not sure if that’s accounting for read /write use when this device will be unused. I’d rather be safe then sorry with this and ideally want the device to be shock proof so I don’t really want to use a hard drive. So what do you believe is the best option? Iv seen some recommendations for an M disc and some people saying get an NVME drive and use that. The file is going to be really small around 1-5mb do I need a large storage device
  23. Basically it’s a password for my crypto wallet which is just random words, so impossible to remember. I should need this password unless I lose my device and have to restore my wallet off a new device. But the dog tags are a great idea, i’ll look what they are made from and try to get a similar metal
  24. Do you have any other recommendations apart from granite? I just had a look and it’s fairly hard to find, is there like a metal equivalent?
