Well, you get a USB HDMI-capture card, plug it in, open some software (VLC probably would do) that can display in fullscreen whatever is connected to the HDMI-capture card's input, and connect the HDMI-output from the desktop-PC to the capture-card -- POOF, fullscreen display from the desktop-PC on the laptop's display. Though, image-size and quality depends on whether it is a USB2.0 - or a USB3.0 - capture-card, with USB3.0 having higher bandwidth and therefore offering better image-quality and resolution.

Though, personally, I'd just recommend buying a second display. One can get a second-hand display cheaper than a capture-card.

If you want to know for sure with whatever brand/model you get. check the dimension size of the 27in and the Ultra wide. That way you can get the right one for your setup.

It is possible that these are from using the display in clam-shell mode, those marks are about where the most heat is on the machine. However burn it would not be a result of excess heat being exposed to the display.

Those marks will not go away unless the display is replaced. 2013 models should have a myriad of options to replace the display but finding a highly rated repair shop is harder than it sounds. I would not go to the Apple Store to get service on a machine this old.
