Portable is (or maybe was) where it's at. I still see people use the 2012 Macbook Air all the time. That generation of Macbook was SUPER well made... much better than the 2016 onwards stuff. I don't see people using Windows ultrabooks from 2012 very frequently

The optimization on MacOS for Final Cut Pro is seriously good. Render times are so much faster than basically all others...

I though avid dominated broadcast industry and movies were still being mostly made by more obscure software like smoke and flame suites.

I HIGHLY doubt we'll be seeing him again...
F to pay respects to 17" MBP

Facts. Even the 2012 era ones are pretty expensive, especially the 17" ones because those are pretty rare. IMO Apple missed a big chance with the i9 rMBP. They could have brought back the beloved 17" MacBook Pro with a Retina display and then had more room in the chassis to actually cool said i9. 
 
Heck yeah, they're amazing laptops and if they're anything like other Macs you should get years more life out of it before it becomes just a web browsing machine, then a few more after that. 

And that is who uses. Some major movies have been made using it, thought not many. 
 
FinalCut is popular with those people because it so affordable compared to the alternatives for small time creators. Its also easy to use and performs better than other software, its also 1st party. 

i dont mind the tiles.. they're just implemented worse than 2006 freeware.

Yeah man! It seems like every day i wake up to see a new issue with them. I'm currently trying to find a 15" 2015 on ebay but it's hard cause their resale value is so high haha

from someone who uses windows about 95% of the time:
if MS announced that was the look of windows 11.. i'd ditch 10 any day of the week.. because god that UI is junk.

This wouldn't even break top 1000 worst threads I've seen.

Facts. It's not as powerful as Premiere but I like it a hell of a lot better, it's smoother, faster, and the UI is basically perfect. Premiere is too cluttered and has too much going on, I just get confused and lost. Never really done advanced editing though, mostly just clipping, titles, some color correction and such. Resolve is also really nice, I like it better than Premiere because it's closer to FCP X in terms of UI and so it's easier to use. Premiere does kick ass when using it with any of the other Adobe Suite softwares, or if you need to use RED footage. Again, all subjective, depends on who's editing and what you're doing. 

MacOS is Unix based, so people would have some similar reasons for using it to Linux.

Bear in mind I try to avoid Apple products.

For the past few years I've been using the Oneplus X. Gets medium usage every day, including Youtube and web browsing. It was a great phone to begin with and probably couldn't beat it for the price. However since then it has been getting very slow, apps are crashing all the time and the battery life has become rubbish. I've began to miss the stability of Apple's IOS and will be getting a mac for uni so i was thinking about swapping to iPhone again. 
 
Can anyone recommend what iPhone to get in 2018? Unlocked is a must and i don't mind buying second hand. Under 400euros would be great too.

That's exactly my point, the aux port is going the way of the doto and fast, adaptors or wireless is all you're going to have if you want any variety of phone choices. I understand you've invested in nice headphones, that's cool. But just like with any tech, they become obsolete and need to be replaced eventually. 

The OnePlus X is too old. Are you reading the latest news? Older gen iPhones get higher battery drain on the latest update. Nothing is safe and @Crunchy Dragon is completely right, getting anything above that barely makes sense.
How about a OnePlus 5t or 6?

To be fair, the OnePlus X is pretty old.
I'd wait and get one of the new iPhone's coming out.

I'd say for the money the stock cooler will do you just fine ;D
