  1. That is pretty normal, around 5ghz all Intel chips require increasingly more voltage. It's up to you if the decreased lifetime and added heat is worth it.
  2. That's the plan, I'm just wondering what my best options would be. I'm not very versed in the laptop market, especially used laptops.
  3. It seems you're not getting any CPU fan spin when you turn it on? Make sure your fan connectors are properly seated. Most PCs wont boot up if they have a main CPU fan failure.
  4. That is extremely odd for a motherboard as recent as an X370. Send a picture of the bottom right area of your motherboard, like the whole area under your GPU.
  5. Near your front I/O connectors, do you see any LEDs blink when you hit the power button? There should be 4 labeled something like, "VGA CPU BOOT DRAM"
  6. So, I need a laptop to do web browsing, a bit of gaming, and a bit of coding. I'm going to put Ubuntu (or some other distro) on it and use it as a guinea pig of sorts. A discrete GPU is a massive pro (even if it is just an MX150 or something) and coming with/able to put in an SSD is an absolute necessity. Another big pro is a screen that isn't super low res, i.e. 1080p60 would be great. I have no problem buying used/refurbished. Someone on Discord recommended a used E7440 or X250, but a second opinion or other suggestions would be great. Thanks.
  7. Your system is not bottlenecked by your CPU much at all, and upgrading your CPU at this point would be a waste of money. There might be something else affecting your performance. What settings are you trying to run these games on?
  8. Yes. Based on the looks of it, one of the chips on your stick of ram could have died. If this happened, I'm surprised that the RAM module works at all. Make sure none of the pins on the RAM stick are scratched/chipped/dirty/missing.
  9. That is reassuring. Could you please screenshot all 6 that mention memory from that same window?
  10. Open the Run prompt by pressing your Windows key and R at the same time. Type "msinfo32" and press enter. On the right side of the window that comes up, look for "System Type". What does it say there?
