  1. 1. 16gig RAM is only available with 4K (last time I checked), which is disappointing because of the price and the battery life 2. Are you considering making a video on HP spectre x360? The new one which also comes with integrated vega. They seem to be direct competitors imo, the idea looks quite similar, and I would actually like to see how they compare to each other. Assuming slightly better price for Spectre (at least in the UK)
  2. I'm considering eGPU yeah (that's why I was not primarily looking at the laptops with discrete graphics) Cheers, I'll have a look That's fair. I'm not buying the machine in the next couple of days anyway. I'm still searching the market.
  3. Well, as I mentioned, I don't really want to continue with Apple stuff any more. Not quite satisfied with recent changes both to macOS and the laptops
  4. Alright. I now have MacBook Pro Early 2013. Equipped with: i7-3740QM (2.7 to 3.7 Turbo boost) 16 GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM GT 650M with 1 GB GDDR5 Use cases: I am a student and I'm doing all these programming stuff virtually full time. This also includes working with Unity3D from time to time (not AAA stuff, but still 3D scenes intended for desktop). + usual web browsing, video watching, light gaming (those 500+ hours in Binding of Isaac, yee). The current specs are pretty decent for these tasks. However the laptop started lagging in recent years – mainly due to thermal throttling I guess (Apple support did not see any problem with it, so I opened it up myself, cleaned it and reapplied thermal paste; it helped a bit – at least it does not heat up to 100C watching YouTube any more – but it's still not as good as new definitely); the battery is pretty worn out by this time too. Also, I'm quite fed up with macOS and Mac ecosystem in general (thanks Apple for the great chargers that I had to change 3 times already). So I'm thinking about changing my working machine now. I would go for a desktop, if I was not in a position of moving place practically ones a year. Hence, I'm looking for a laptop. What caught my eye are XPS 15 2-in-1 (i5-8305G, 8GB DDR4, RX Vega 870 with 4GB) and X1 Yoga 3rd gen (i5-8250U, 8GB LPDDR3 2133MHz, Intel UHD Graphics 620). I'm quoting here the lowest specs for them available as I think that i5 might be sufficient for my tasks (I might be wrong), although 8GB RAM and GPUs might be a bit concerning. Also, i5 version of XPS has way better battery life, but it is hard to judge, as there are not many reviews yet. Traits I'm looking for: Obviously it must handle the tasks mentioned above. Typing experience is crucial. I really like my current keyboard (although some keys started failing after 5 years of heavy usage), but the keyboard of the new MacBook Pro felt really cheap. The maglift keyboard of XPS sounds really interesting and promising (again hard to judge due to lack of reviews). Good enough cooling: I do not mind any noise at all, as long as it prevents the machine from boiling. Decent battery life, I need some portability (of course not like 20 hours). I do not mind the weight that much – something around 2 kilos is totally fine. 2-in-1: it is preferable. I miss my old iPad, so it might be a good addition. Although it is not crucial, if there exist a really good system for these tasks without those features. Well, I'm looking for advice here. I'm still in doubt if 8 gig would be enough. I'm still not sure how Vega 870, UHD 620 and my old GT 950M compare. I'm not quite sure if there are any really good options that I'm missing out, apart from those two. So yeah, any hints would be welcome. (The post came out way longer than I expected)
