There aren't any moving parts in a regular Sata SSD; it's just a different size/shape and is hooked up using standard SATA cables instead of being directly plugged into the motherboard like a memory module or GPU would.

Are you thinking about "solid state hard drives", which are just hard disks with a small solid state cache? Those I would stay away from, since they don't offer any real performance improvement compared to a standard hard drive, but it has more potential modes of failure. If the cache fails in one of those, but the disk part itself is fine, you still risk losing all your data.

Longevity would be identical, there's no difference between the drives except for a different shape of the connector and the SSD itself.

They are both fine you shouldn't worry about it since they are built to last. If you had an hhd then you can deal with a SSD life span

In theory the sata model would have a longer life because there's more space and the circuit board can be made bigger, the chips can be further apart so the heat from the controller would not radiate so much and heat up the flash memory chips.
In real world, whatever benefit would be extremely small and may not even be there, as the manufacturer could use the same circuit board layout for both models or could even simply include a M.2 drive inside the sata ssd case and use a sata to m.2 adapter if they wanted to.
M.2 connector contains both sata and pci-e contacts so that would be possible.

As others have said, the longevity in terms of bytes written should be almost identical between the two, if they have the same type/capacity of NAND onboard.

It's worth remembering however that sata interface drives are limited by the interface at about 600MB/s maximum, but m.2 can reach (and sometimes exceed) 3GB/s. Even though they may be able to handle the same amount of total writes, you may find that the m.2 drive has a lower lifespan simply because you can write a lot more data to it faster.

For the same amount of writes over the same timeframe, you should notice no difference between the two. Check the manufacturers write endurance to be able to compare different drives.

Hey guys, which one would last longer? Specifically talking about the Samsung 860 Evo sata and the 860 Evo m.2? Thank you in advance

Edit: Used for gaming only, mostly triple a games and os will also be stored.

free-sync is just a nice bonus, not needed anymore for now though, always a nice option to have in the future though.

It's like unquestionably more upgradable in terms or performance per dollar, and likely longevity.

The RX 580 and 1060 go back and forth for the most part, free-sync pushes it over the edge as a nice bonus depending on the display.

and I don't think that case has airflow, should go for a Focus G if you wanted a $50 case in there

Can I ask why the 545s is bad? Just curious

The 545s is a terrible SSD and nobody should buy it. Get a TeamGroup L5 Lite 3D instead. Otherwise its' fine although I'd look at a used R9 390 or R9 Fury or GTX 980 Ti

@GoldenLag selected a solid Adobe Suite build.

Adobe Suite is poorly optimized, so Intel suits it better. If you are using Premiere, you will eventually make your way to After Effects, where the 8700K enjoys a 10%-20% speed bump over the 2700x depending on the workload and complexity of the project.

I am happy to see the choice of Nvidia for this build. On that budget, a 1060 6gb is plenty. You have a lot of VRAM to play with for more complex preview renders and really, the performance gap between a 1070 and 1060 for productivity isn't so massive that you'll wish you got one. 1070 is normally where I stop with GPU recommendations, but the jump between a 1060 and 1070 isn't worth skimping on RAM, storage, and CPU for.

EDIT: Everyone needs to stop talking in game performance here. CUDA is better supported than OpenCL and Adobe loves CUDA. That's why you'll never see me recommend AMD for video editing builds unless you are using specific applications where AMD enjoys a solid performance advantage. After the 1070, the 1080 and 1080ti offer next to no performance advantage and the cost difference is another nvme and way more RAM that's far more necessary. Tbh, if OpenCL was better supported, the RX 580 would be the better choice strictly because of VRAM and it's superior compute. However, Adobe is poorly optimized, so it is what it is. That's just reality.

I'd recommend moving your project files and project to the nvme for best performance and look to get a second nvme for current project workloads. Only use the 2TB drive for storage.

any site to check? It's hard to recommend things solely because of the sheer number of options and prices fluctuate. Gigabyte makes plenty of crappy boards (should be B360 boards, but released in the time when the market wants cheap boards for locked CPUs but Intel hadnt released B and H chipsets yet). Asus makes cheap stuff, then sell them at high prices so they arent my go-to brand either.
