Microsoft makes it even harder to change your default browser
darknessblade replied to AMDKilla's topic in Tech News
They must have forgotten about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrowserChoice.eu This is also a clear violation of the DSA regulations, so they WILL get fined for it and forced to revert the changes. -
I have a powercolor red devil RX7900XT. Not sure if that series also has issues, If so I haven't seen them myself, Mosly because I underclocked my GPU instead of overclocked. This saved roughly 200W in total PC power-consumption, and I barely took a hit of 5% in performance. [note PC build in signature is outdated]

darknessblade replied to mynameGeoff's topic in LTT Releases
Shame linus didn't go to Keiths store with a obvious fake mustache. -
I hope they make a version with 12+ Sata M.2 slots. then you can have tons of storage.

Everyone Needs This and it’s under $10 - Handy Tech Under $100
darknessblade replied to JordB's topic in LTT Releases
Would love to see more like this as well. where they build and test weird and slightly unknown projects like this. With Aliexpress their Anniversary sale going on, getting most parts now will give you a even better bargain. -

Apple will allow iOS app downloads directly from websites in the EU
darknessblade replied to creat0r's topic in Tech News
Is it just me or does apple love getting fined by the EU for breaking DSA regulations. This is a clear "F-U" where they try to squeeze as much power as they can, hoping the EU won't notice, and let them have their way.- 39 replies

Sadly many bad actors will also rebrand it and include malware into the sourcecode. then promote it as a functional emulator that is just as good as YUZU. Since it works. you won't notice the malware running in the background. Especially when it is programmed to give a generic error, making you restart/close it, but you won't notice the hidden program running in the background that has a identical process-ID to the emulator, You will only notice it if you check taskmanager, and know what to look for.

I Built the Slowest Brand New PC and it Sucks.
darknessblade replied to JordB's topic in LTT Releases
One of the downsides of the Chuwi herobox. is that it can't be powered by USB-C. which is possible with the UN100C -

At MAX 300$ even something like a minisforum UN100L https://store.minisforum.com/products/minisforum-un100l-1 Which cost 180$ is a much billion times of a better deal than that E-waste PC. {I have the UN100C, which is near identical in specs} and it is quite decent for windows/basic office usage/light gaming. Though with a TDP of at most 15W under normal use, and max 9W when underclocked, its perfect for a home-assistant server. Please note for some strange reason the UN100C is discontinued. not sure what the reason is. Especially with it being smaller and taking up less space than the Un100L. it would be a better bang for the buck system. -
A 1 Petabit DVD-like disc has been created
darknessblade replied to Uttamattamakin's topic in Tech News
Not forgetting they often want you to buy at least 1000+ pieces, and get a expensive service contract as well. essentially locking out the end-user from ever getting these drives NEW. Most of these cardridges are also made to be written once or twice, then put in a climate controlled storage room, only accessed when you need the data. which then it is faster to copy everything than to look for that 1 specific 1GB image you created XXX years ago. -
This is yet another reason why you shouldn't use cloudbased devices for smarthome/home security

You mean trash like High-guardian spice. Which is one of their most hated "Crunchyroll originals". hated from the moment it was announced, because its not anime, and not what their customerbase wants. The show that was soo bad it had to resort to stealing STOCK-photo's just to meet the "budget". https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/2239829-high-guardian-spice

And here I expected a powerbutton like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005937149992.html? That way you still have some front-IO on your desk for quick and easy access when you need a flashdrive/usb-stick

Anyone else wondering which employee "steals" this from the office, which is revealed in their 5000$ AMD tech upgrade

One benefit with smart-plugs when using it with 3D printers, is that when you put a Camera on the printer you can remote shut-down the printer in case it goes wrong, and it starts printing in the air/creating a GLOPTOP.

True, I will NOT get any Haier products in the upcoming years, as long as they do not use a standard like zigbee, threads, or matter. When it comes to 3rd party support by chinese companies, even a company like Tuya is more open with addons like "local tuya" "YES you do need to update/request a renewal roughly every 6 months for your dev-account/project, if you use tuya products, but its less of a headache than having to use 5+ apps, with a shitty halfbaked official plugin" Not forgetting most tuya products can be flashed by either Tasmota, Openbeken or ESPHome.

Summary Appliances giant Haier issued a takedown notice to a software developer for creating Home Assistant integration plugins for the company's home appliances and releasing them on GitHub. Quotes My thoughts This is nothing but a scummy move from a company that doesn't like local integrations for devices, and wants users to pay a large monthly fee, to use their devices they legally bought and own. They want FULL control, and want to milk as much data from their consumers as they can. not forgetting that if you offend them in any way they can remote shut down your devices you legally own There is a reason why open standards like Matter, threads or Zigbee should exist, and manufacturers are forced to use them. its to prevent hundreds of walled garden apps for each smarthome device. Like with homeassistant you have 1 app for all your devices, not 100 because the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to combine it into one app. and that it does not force a always online DRM cloud subscription to use your device trough your smartphone.
