    For anyone with hand problems/RSI:
    Talon-Voice - https://talonvoice.com/
Alternative to keyboard and mouse. Free cross-platform software with a paid early-access beta. With Talon you can run commands using speech recognition and control the mouse with eye tracking (using Tobii 4c/5). It is targeted towards programmers and allows scripting your own commands to improve your workflow. Existing commands allow you for example to: press keys/mouse buttons, dictate text (beta also includes other languages), switch windows, launch programs, control tabs (in browser, editor, terminal), control IDEs like intellij/vscode, run common terminal commands (git, cd, ls).

Depending on your electricity costs an older enterprise system might be more expensive in the long run. Do you really need the power of a socketed CPU or would a efficient Atom or ARM board be enough? Do you need to transcode?

Do you have myopia? Slightly undercorrecting glasses (+1D) for screen work can reduce eye strain by basically simulating longer distances. You can also add blue light filters.

@PenguinMaster the difference between 6e and 6a may be small, but if it was me, I'd go 6a now (and I'd likely run a few Fibre runs to key areas as well). Do it right and overkill the first time, when the walls are open. It will save so much hassle than trying to fish line in the future.

Or, if part of your profession is using PhotoShop, then changing programs is a non-starter.
If I have to keep using Windows, then what's the point of switching? Running in a VM? Pointless, I'll get better performance AND less hassle just staying under Windows.

Let's face the truth here shall we?
Linux will never be a proper substitute for Windows until major software is ported, things like Adobe, and whatnot.
Not workalikes, not alternatives, the real deal, running natively under Linux.

Then, and only then will Linux *possibly* gain a foothold anywhere.
And I say this as an Linux evangelist. But I am not blind to the *many* *deep* shortcomings of Linux, the main one being the users, then the usability and so forth.

I love how all of these posts posts follow the same formula
Linux is great All the problems are Linus' fault Linux isn't windows Open source is better Linux is better even though I had all these stupid issues. It just feels like a bunch of people running between Linus and Linux with shields raised.

I run Linux on my laptop and my nas (for a few months now) and I can say: Linux is frustrating, it's community is annoying and full of elitism, every complaint Linus has made I can related to.

I don't know if Linux users want more people to use Linux so it becomes more popular, or if they want want to forever be the gatekeepers of their promised land.

Is your internet speed actually over 1 Gbit/s? If not, you don't need more than 1 Gbit/s.

Also real world wifi speeds are much lower than advertised. Even if wifi were faster than ethernet, the latency and stability would be much worse.

Look up PWDIS, then see if you can prevent the drives from getting 3.3V on the SATA plug (either with tape on the connector or with a Molex adapter).

You would be best to install heavy weight curtains about 6 inch from the wall and ensure they go form floor to ceiling, while it won't be perfect it will help. Best solution would be to build a secondary wall and put in sound proof insulation but seeing this is a rental it is not the most practical.

    ZFS doesn't require ECC.

If you want ECC anyway: AFAIK Ryzen supports ECC. The harder problem is, the motherboard/BIOS also as to support it. I think ASRock is the best option there, but i don't know of any specific MBs supporting it.

I'll never understand spending $1000-1500 on a balling gaming PC only to have your ass and back ache in a $75 chair.

Any chair you buy from staples or Ikea or any cheaper chair online retailer if going to be absolutely garbage. Your back and butt will get sore after 1-3 hours. Don't get me started on "gaming" chairs.

Craigslist or Marketplace is full of businesses that are selling their old assets. Chairs from companies like Herman Miller, Steelcase, Humanscale. There chairs will cost about $1000 retail but you can pick them up for 100-200 second hand. Same price as what you would pay for a mid range shitty poo poo chair.

The ones from these companies are made to be sat in for 8+ hours a day. It's amazing the difference you can feel.

Do your ass a favor. Get a good chair.

It is already PCIe 3.0. PCIe 4.0 is only available with Ryzen 3 and not even supported by your GPU. Even if it was supported, it wouldn't need that much bandwidth. If you want high speed storage, then you might need a new motherboard, but you really don't need more than 1 GB/s (2x PCIe 2, your motherboards M.2 connection) for game loading.

    It depends.
What games are you playing? Do they need more CPU or more GPU power? What resolution is your monitor? FHD will need more CPU power and 4K more GPU power. What frame rate is your monitor? 144Hz in any modern game would be a struggle with a 4790K. The RAM and motherboard won't be a bottleneck, unless you have scientific calculations that need really high RAM speed.

He doesn't seem to need a dedicated GPU, as such he can get 10Gbit for the PCIe slot. WiFi should be done with a separate AP anyway.

Do you need high CPU power? AMD only has APUs with 4 cores and integrated graphics is really nice for installation/troubleshooting. Intel might be the better choice then. I could not find any AM4 mITX board with 2 NICs, but Intel has some (mostly ASRock). What about Supermicro boards with soldered (low power) CPUs and high end NICs? Those are made for this kind of application.

You could also check out NUC style mini PCs. They are prebuilts, but smaller than any mITX case and usually VESA mountable (probably the best way to mount under a desk). Many do have dual NICs and the power should be enough for your application.

You could iterate over the strings and compare each character until they are different or one string ends. Comparing chars should work with "<" and don't forget to set both strings to lower case. I won't post code, since this seems like homework.
