It looks like they are not updating the scoreboard anymore. My system is similar to yours but with 340TB raw drives.
We both should be near the top.

For everybody else who reflexively clicked the YouTube play button in that screenshot:
It's amazing how much of a difference modern lighting and textures make to aging games. I saw an RTX remix of a Need for Speed: Underground title, and it looked almost new. Black Mesa RTX when?

Green_man_5 reacted to rcmaehl in Yo Dawg, I heard you like PCs - der8auer converts Intel NUC into a PCIe card with just some tape.
I leave for a couple months and a template gets added to the forums, wonder where they got that from. 👀
Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated
Summary:
Despite what Intel may have said, the Intel NUC does not require an extra enclosure but can easily be added to any existing PC with just a few pieces of tape.

My Thoughts:
While still potentially a bit more expensive than a regular PC, it's neat to see that a NUC can easily be added just like you would add an additional GPU. I might consider this as you don't even need a case that can support two systems, any regular ATX case will do.

Could be particularly bad for hit & run type situations. Speaking for myself, a string of emojis is a lot harder to remember than text.

Green_man_5 reacted to dizmo in The LG 38GL950G; The new God of the gaming 21:9
LG is, of course, set to release new monitors at CES this year. This one was revealed a little early, and it looks like it's going to be the new God of the ultra wide monitor market.
Enter the 38GL950G.
I really wish LG would come up with some nicer nomenclatures.
The monitor boasts some impressive specs:
38" curved display with a 21:9 aspect ratio 3820 x 1600 144hz GSync IPS panel 2ms response time 89% of the DCI-P3 color space 450 nit brightness Price TBD (but really, if you have to ask, you can't afford it) The impressive points here are the brightness, and the pixel response time of 2ms on an IPS panel. I hope they make a FreeSync version too, but I think it's rather unlikely as this is more of an upper market monitor.
Personally, this is the perfect monitor IMO. It hits all the right targets for me, and will likely be what I pick up this summer/fall. I also love how it's not overly gamer, with just a red accent.
It'd better have VESA mounts though, as that stand is pretty intrusive to desk real estate.
I cannot wait for CES this year!
What do you think? Would something like this sway you to give up a multi monitor set up?

This isn't quite the right section to create this thread. Just a quick FYI, the forums are rarely used to communicate with LTT staff. I would suggest you use Twitter instead.

Currently prime shipping does not exist, but Amazon is expecting to introduce it at some point but has not said exactly when. It will have an introductory cost of $2.99USD and then $5.99USD/month after 6 months. It will include Prime Video and Twitch Prime.
I hope it will succeed, as it will drive prices down, but at the same time it will, unfortunately, close some of the smaller shops like what happened to NCIX.

When Apple removed it, they used the headphone jack as a selling point for the Pixel and now they are going to remove it? Let Apple take all the flak and remove it next year, I guess.

Green_man_5 reacted to StackUnderflow in Entry level server
Hello,
I'm looking into building a server in my bedroom. I'll answer the questions below and suggest a build:
1. Budget & Location
Approximately $1300ish. In US-West.
2. Aim
Will be a on 24/7 running a few web servers, a few databases, running an always on DVR (w/ transcoding on the fly + transcoding recordings and running post scripts such as commercial skipping), running a NAS, running pfSense, running a couple of minecraft servers, and sometimes number crunching if work clusters are all tied up (imagine F@H, AVX-512 would be super nice). Under a Proxmox LXC container and KVM VM (for pfSense and Windows, unfortunately Matlab/Simulink only runs on windows). Generally server stuff, no GPU.
3. Monitors
0, output via VNC/console only
4. Peripherals
Aforementioned PCIe TV tuner for the DVR.
5. Why are you upgrading?
I have a 9 year old Dell R710, it's loud and hot and power hungry.
Suggested build: (sorry no PCPartPicker, the parts don't show up on there)
CPU: Xeon Silver 4108 ($450)
Mobo: Supermicro X11DAi ($500), there's one that's cheaper for $400 but that only has 8 RAM slots instead of 16, is that worth the step down in cost?
RAM: Pulling a 16GB non-ECC stick from my gaming build (free)
PSU: B-Stock EVGA 850 BQ ($70), there's 2 EPS connectors just for future proofing
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ($100)
Drives: Cheap $20-30 SSD off eBay for the hypervisor (Proxmox), pulling my current array from the R710 (free)
Total: $1150 + tax
The reason I went with the newest architecture instead of Sandy Bridge (also the DP Mobo instead of a UP Mobo) is because this would allow me to drop in upgrade alot of things (RAM/CPU) I have alot of funding now, but maybe not a couple years from now when the upgrade would be more expensive, and I'd be essentially tossing the $500 Sandy Bridge gear (and i wont utilize 32 threads for now anyways). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
