    Probably a very good plan, I was looking at possibly getting the MSI MPG X670E Carbon, and shocked at the price...

    Even the Asus ROG Crosshair Hero seems to have doubled in price this generation.

    Mobo makers are having a laugh 😅

    The 5800x3d is the best bang for buck for gaming right now...

    7000 isn't worth it with the price of these motherboards, DDR5, etc.

    Might be more worth it if they release something like a 7800X3D down the line, with some cheaper motherboard options, but it'll give you so little benefit right now it really does feel a little pointless.

    Is anyone else worried that DLSS 3 is just the same thing as "Motion Smoothing" that we've seen in TVs for a while now? Seems to just take rendered frames and make up (albeit with fancy AI algorithms) totally new frames that didn't exist before... And then they're counting those frames towards the FPS that the card is spitting out on all of the performance graphs in the announcement... Just doesn't seem right to me, but I guess we need to see this thing work before drawing a conclusion.

    EDIT: I really should have watched the video first...

    Ram would be the first suspect indeed. Do you have the Ryzen specific Corsair modules (with m2z / m4z in the name)? The regular ones dont play too well with ryzen.

    Try running Memtest64 on your RAM. 3600mhz is pretty high for 3000 series, especially 4x8.

    Solarisfire got a reaction from vanished in 32 Bit OS on a 64 Bit Processor Utilizing More Than 4GB of RAM?
    Wondering how we arrive at that 4GB limit? Here's the math for 32-bit systems:
    232 = 4,294,967,296 bytes 4,294,967,296 / (1,024 x 1,024) = 4,096 MB = 4GB
    It's different for 64-bit:
    264 = 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 / (1,024 x 1,024) = 16EB (exabytes)

    Overkill:

    Write a whole back end CMS framework yourself in either PHP (for more of a challenge use a framework like Laravel), Node.JS, ASP .net (yuck, but it's an option)...
    Use a DB for storage, extra points for Mongo but MariaDB or MySQL would do.

    Write the whole front end in a javascript framework like:
    Angular
    React
    Backbone
    Ember

    Then build an architecture with it hosted geographically in multiple places using a CDN.

    Solarisfire got a reaction from Lynx in [Extreme Tech] Sony has developed 185TB tapes, yes, those tapes
    Tapes are used a MASSIVE amount in industry. You may not know the legislation, and it changes from country and country and department to department but just for a companies financial data (data on every single financial transaction made, and all the paper trail that goes with it) has to be kept for a minimum of six years in the UK and longer in certain circumstances.

    Hard drives SUCK at this task. If you turn off a hard drive and stick it in a cupboard for 6 years its spindle will stick, and the head will more than likely glue itself to the platter. If you leave them running they will likely fail and even in RAID you'll have the cost of replacing disks and power to contend with. SSDs will deteriorate with 6 years of not being turned on. Even ink fades on paper over the course of 6 years.

    Tape is by far the best method for storing large amounts of data you don't need quick access to long term. And imagine how much data a large company such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, etc have to keep on their millions of smaller financial transactions. This is the data that runs into the hundreds of TB and this is what these tapes are designed for.
