Id switch to storage spaces in windows. This will let you mix drives of different sizes, and easily expand and shrink the pool later on. You would need to wipe it before seting up storage spaces, but its a much more flexable setup.

You could try and buy a replacement part. But honestly this just feels like an apple problem. The ammount of people i see walking around with a software home button is ridiculous

I haven't had much success in getting FreeNAS to work, primarily as the virtual machine hypervisor won't play ball ATM, so it will be some time before I can get back to you. Sorry. Hopefully someone else will be able to assist you in the mean time. However, in this video:
it appears the installer has the option to repair an existing installation by returning it to default values as well as configuring various parts of the network (menu visible at ca 4:19). Give that a try first, then carefully document any further steps you take trying to reconfigure your system again.

    HTH!

Thanks @JustAsh, after trying this several times finally worked. I think I didn't have the right combination of user credentials/permissions/folder ownership at any one time... until I did. Thanks again for solving, really appreciate it! ❤️

@Electronics Wizardy thanks, your advice was also right, I was just too much of a dumbass to use the right credentials at the right time.

    Cheers everyone ✌️

the base voltage should be visable in the BIOS, set the offset accordingly

use Ryzen master to play with Voltage and stability. anything below 1.42 is safe voltage, though for your mobo 1.38 and below is probably where you should be playing. start at 1.32 and work you voltage up untill you hit a stable 4.1 ish ghz or whatever your target frequency is

Edit: when you have found the stable voltage, then apply in BIOS.

Don't be afraid of Linux, it is a GUI just like Windows or ChromeOS. I'm sure if you're able to use ChromeOS, you'll be able to use Linux.

You might want to do this on your girlfriend's laptop as I'm not sure how in ChromeOS.
    Download Rufus https://rufus.akeo.ie/
    Download Linux  https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Use Rufus to mount the ISO onto a USB drive.

Now you should be able to use that USB drive to boot into Ubuntu.

Was the old hard drive enclosure not working or you weren't sure?

I'm not familiar with ChromeOS but a quick Google search turned up GPT which Windows 10 should be able to read....should.
Initializing the disk in windows isn't the same as formatting it, however with an "iffy" disk there is a chance of the partition being corrupted. Have you tried plugging into a Linux machine to see if it could mount it? If not you can just make a live disk on a thumb drive and plug it into just about any computer to see. Ubuntu or Mint would be what I would try.

Yeah you make some good points, and I think it is definitely something best decided around the time of purchase, what with B450 coming it may make complete sense to go for that plus a 2nd Gen CPU. Hopefully the new chipset will be released to give me some more options.

I built a system for a friend some months ago.

The exact same motherboard and RAM you want were used with no issues whatsoever.
But since you're building in late July, I do think that 2700+B450 is your best and safest bet!

Yes, PNY is good enough, their main focus is workstation cards (like the GV 100, yes no kidding) their consumer cards are good too.

Since you'd have use for the Cores, it's a good idea to go for Ryzen 7, however, what is your time frame?

If you could, I'd try to squeeze in the 2700 over the 1700. Prices might come down a little over the next few months, especially with the launch of the B450 series soon enough.

RAM all works at JEDEC values, so up to 2666, on Ryzen. It's OC'ing the RAM beyond that. (Even on Intel, everything over 2666 is an OC, it's just the industry bins for Intel.) However, the 2nd Gen Ryzen plays a whole lot nicer with all of the memory.

Looks pretty decent, you might want to consider the X370 Pro4 instead of the B350, it's at pretty decent price atm.
