I currently have my old Windows 10 Pro Machine running as a NAS/Plex Server. I have 2x 3TB drives set up in 2 mirrored volumes (2.5TB for Plex Media, 0.5TB for Documents, Photos, etc). I've set this up in Disk Management (see below for clarity). I'm running out of space and want to add more drives to increase the overall capacity. I understand that it's possible to create pools of multiple different size drives but I'm not sure where to start. The data isn't that important and is backed up externally regularly, but I'd still like to keep some redundancy in my pool. Say I want to add another 1 or 2 drives, and allow 1 drive of the 3 or 4 to fail without losing any data - how would I go about setting this up? Also, would I need to wipe the existing data on the drives in the process? Thanks in advance for any help - this is a case of not really knowing what to Google! Happy Friday

Hey all, I'm using an old Windows machine as a home NAS (couple of mirrored 3TB WD Reds - thankfully not SMR ones). I have a spare 3TB drive in my main PC that I want to use for regular backups of the content on the NAS. I'm looking for software recommendations that will regularly (say, weekly) sync the contents of my NAS onto the drive on my PC? I want the content on the backup drive to be just a straight copy I can explore locally, rather than an image that I'd have to restore should my NAS blow up. Any suggestions?

Hi all, I've recently replaced the screen on an old iPhone 7. I followed the iFixit guide, which I'll link below. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+7+LCD+and+Digitizer+Replacement/88860 After putting the phone back together (and taking apart, and reassembling several times), I can't get the home button to work consistently. The hardware seems to be fine, as it sometimes works exactly as you'd expect an iPhone 7 button to, haptic feedback, takes you to the home screen etc, but sometimes it will just stop working. The iFixit guide does include a note about not overtightening the screws, or the button won't work (see below), which I think may be the problem. I've tried making them very loose, making them tighter than I'd expect, and making them somewhere in the middle, but nothing has solved it. Anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

I fixed it! I came across this thread while reading up on @Dutch_Master's suggestion about returning default values. https://www.ixsystems.com/community/threads/iocage-set-up-itself-on-wrong-pool-how-can-i-move-it.61234/#post-435258 Effectively, all I did was run the command iocage clean -a Which cleared out all the data from my existing iocage. I'm not sure why this worked, but I'm guessing I had improperly set up the jail or something along those lines, which was somehow preventing access to plugins. Anyway, my available plugins now load (although I haven't installed anything yet). Thanks all for your help.

@Dutch_Master When running that first command I get this: Obviously this means I'm unable to copy the file to run the other commands you've suggested do you know what could be causing this?

@paddy-stone EDIT: Yes, running FreeNAS 11.2-U7 which is the latest to my knowledge.

Hi all, Recently set up a new FreeNAS build and got everything set up. I can connect to it on the network via my desktop, however, I'm not able to load the plugins so I can install Plex etc. In the web GUI when I go to Plugins>Available, I get the following message and an endless loading screen: I'm new to servers/networking so the following is pretty much the extent of my knowledge on the topic. After some searching online it seems that it may be something to do with the DHCP or DNS. I set up a static IP yesterday which I'm guessing is related. Based on troubleshooting for similar issues, I've tried pinging google.com in the shell and that doesn't work (see below). Could anyone give me some suggestions as to why this is happening and how I can fix it? Thanks! Jake

Thanks @JustAsh, after trying this several times finally worked. I think I didn't have the right combination of user credentials/permissions/folder ownership at any one time... until I did. Thanks again for solving, really appreciate it! @Electronics Wizardy thanks, your advice was also right, I was just too much of a dumbass to use the right credentials at the right time. I've gone back and double checked, it looks as though I've done this as far as I can tell. Here's the permissions I've got applied to my dataset. And here are the permissions I've been using for the SMB: Currently I've only been using the "root" account and password to sign in through Windows file explorer. Do I need to create a separate user account under users?

Hey all, looking for some help. Built a new home NAS to run FreeNAS, got it booted, loaded into the GUI through Chrome on my desktop all fine. I've set up my pool, created my dataset, and now I'm trying to map this drive so that I can access it through my Windows machine and start loading up files. When I map the drive, log in with my credentials, it shows up under "This PC" as a network location; but, I get this error when trying to access it (IP address hidden): I've tried some general troubleshooting from online threads but haven't had any luck. Would really appreciate any advice. Let me know if you need any more info. FreeNAS version: FreeNAS-11.2-U7 Windows version: Windows 10 Pro 1909

When booting my PC, no BIOS logo screen appears, and pressing F2 or Del as I normally would to enter BIOS just seems to delay to booting - if I keep doing it, the screen remains black and my keyboard/mouse LEDs periodically switch off and on. When I finally give up hitting F2 or Del, after a few seconds I'm dumped at the normal Windows login screen. Same thing happens if I use the Windows Advanced Start-Up to try to access BIOS. I wasn't having this problem when first built, then it appeared, then went away of it's own accord after a few days, and now it's back. Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, v 1803 Ryzen 5 2600 @ stock Asus B450-F Gaming with factory BIOS 2 x 8GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000MHz Asus Strix GTX 1060 OC Edition WD Blue 500GB M.2 SSD Cooler Master Masterwatt 550W PSU Cooler Master Devastator 3 USB Keyboard/Mouse Thanks for your help, let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks for the suggestions - I think I wasn't clear though, I'm not sure what voltage I'm running at currently. I'm happy to try up to around 1.30-1.35V, but I don't know what offset I need to set to get it running at that. Is HWMonitor reliably giving me the voltage I'm currently at?

I'm new to overclocking, trying to get my Ryzen 5 2600 up to 4.0GHz. I've never overclocked before but have managed alright so far, reaching a not quite stable 4.0GHz on all cores, with an offset Vcore of 0.1V. Prime95 showed an error after about 10-15 minutes. Before I input more voltage, could somebody please clarify what's the base voltage I'm adding this offset to? When I dial in my settings in the Asus UEFI, Ryzen Master then shows the voltage to be 1.1375V. HWMonitor says the CPU is drawing around 1.209V if I remember correctly. I'm guessing that 1.1375V is my base, giving me plenty more headroom, but like I said I'm new and don't want to kill any parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hardware used: Ryzen 5 2600 Wraith Prism cooler (yes, the 135W cooler which usually comes with the 2700X) Asus B450-F Gaming

@Razor Blade So I managed to get Ubuntu working. Plugged in the drive, and it didn't behave any differently. It still spins, no strange noises, no indicator LED. Still no files as far as I could tell, based on the Ubuntu "Drives" manager. See attached image. What should I do next?

I'm not sure I understand correctly, but then use this USB as the boot drive, and see if the hard drive will work? Edit: didn't see your response before posting this. Thanks, that clears it up.

@Razor Blade I wasn't sure if the enclosure was working since the light was off, so that's why I tried switching it out. It's back in the original enclosure now though. Yes, I forgot to mention I had previously been using the hard drive on both my Chromebook, and my girlfriend's Windows laptop, without any issue until this point. I haven't tried using Linux no, but I'll give it a try. I've never used Linux before so if you know any good tutorials or such to explain how to do that, that would be great! Thanks for the info.

I've had a 2TB Seagate Expansion Portable Drive for a bit less than a year now, and it's not being recognised any more. This started when I bought a Chromebook (Samsung Chromebook 3) as a temporary solution when my laptop died. After around a week of using to transfer media files back and forth between the hard drive and the Chromebook, I plugged in the hard drive and after a while I get a message "This device cannot be opened because its file system was not recognised.", plus the option to format (see attached). In Windows 10, on a different laptop which had previously also worked fine with the drive, under Disk Management the drive shows up as 'Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialised", and won't appear in File Explorer as usual. It does show in Devices and Printers, as an "Unspecified" device called "Expansion". I tried replacing the hard drive enclosure with a functioning one. Using different USB ports. The disk had not been dropped prior to this occurring. The drive is spinning when it is plugged in, with no clicking or any sort of unusual noise. The indicator light, which is usually flashing or static blue while in use, no longer comes on. I know this issue is somehow related to the Chromebook - I have an SD card in the Chromebook at all times, and use it for the exact same purpose as the malfunctioning hard drive. A few weeks after the 2TB drive started behaving this way, the SD card came up with the exact same issue. I just left it, and when I went a few days later to format the SD card, it had miraculously reappeared and was working as normal, with all the data intact. Does anybody have any ideas? I do have the option to format in ChromeOS, but would rather not as I'd like to recover the data if possible (this was my backup). Thanks for taking the time to read!

Can't deny, that looks like a good build and does in general look more powerful than what I had planned. Thanks for taking the time to put it together, I'll definitely give it some thought!

Yeah you make some good points, and I think it is definitely something best decided around the time of purchase, what with B450 coming it may make complete sense to go for that plus a 2nd Gen CPU. Hopefully the new chipset will be released to give me some more options.
