6000 CL30's have got my heart now 😄
cl28 is only like $10 more

stability for am5 might be worse with 28 though, that's why we all spec 6000 CL30s

Dedayog reacted to SpookyCitrus in SSD heat spreader pad or motherboard heatsink
Nvme SSDs are designed to work without a heat spreader, so either one is going to work. Typically you will need to remove the preinstalled one in order to use the motherboards built in. Usually the built in MB ones are better. Personally, I order Nvmes without the heat spreader or if the heat spreader version is cheaper I remove it and use the motherboard's if it has one.

Usually you order the with or without versions based on if your motherboard has one or not. In this instance where your board has one already, you'd want to get an Nvme that doesn't already have a heat spreader. Regardless, even if it didn't come with one or the motherboard didn't have one you'd still be fine.

Well for 1440p, it's a good pick.  Definitely viable for moving up to 1440 UW 👍

Not sure I would run a 12 year old motherboard setup in something that by design is supposed to be reliable 100% of the time...

And so far, looks like a top exhaust fan does help. The GPU hotspot is now at 92°C with the TBP maxed out. Previously it was at ~100°C.

The Gen 5 aspects are a complete waste of money, but if you want them just to have them... rock it.

Devil's Advocate is a solid play here, but a 4070 Super for 1080p, especially going from the iGPU in a 5600g.... a bit much.

So no, I am staying strong and saying a 4070 Super is overkill for 1080p.  There are a myriad of sub-$800 GPU's more suited.

I understand your point and it's a vague one.  You're just hedging on a "what might happen in the future", may as well get a 4090 then.

You';re a little uneven for intake vs exhaust, I would add another exhaust fan at the top back.  So you have air coming from from the entire front and leaving top and back.   Not a big deal either way, just what I would do.

    Don't you already have a 2TB m.2 drive? I'd use that

I see a 12600kf for $150 on amazon, so that seems like its worth the discount if you can get a better GPU.

Is this a built you already have or are planning to get?

Dedayog reacted to Alex Atkin UK in Fan placement? Front intake and top intake, then one fan exhaust?
Remember heat rises, so all that heat you are pushing out can get circulated back inside with top intake.

It doesn't matter if the coolant is hotter, if the things its cooling are not thermal throttling.

For one, I already have 2x 32GB DDR5 6000.  It may be later AM5 chips handle 4x sticks better, but it may handle them worse too, we don't know.  It can vary based on how well the motherboard has routed the RAM slots, not just the CPU.
