no I suggest 500 4090s, it's very affordable compared to a 50,000 square foot house

If you're been watching the housing market, 500 4090's are affordable compare to ANY home.

Hell , go 1000 of them.

Good to know, I'm just clarifying that stability is not something I'm considering. As for budget I think 600 dollars will be enough, especially if I take a look into the used market. Unless you have a suggestion, I'm not experienced on what is and what isn't a good budget for this kinda stuff.

Best deal hands down is the 7800x3d bundle from Microcenter, but you say it's not open yet?

    AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX, G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit, Computer Build Bundle - Micro Center

Didnt know I needed to change to DDR5, thanks for the heads up!  Hearing you also have a 750w PSU that can handle your build brings me a lot of relief. And yeah you can always wait for something better, but if its that close then I might as well wait for it so I can get some good deals on the 7000 series.

I chose the 7700x since it seemed the best bang for my buck for the use case I wanted it for, mostly it was for gaming as I am just a student and not a professional so Im not too concerned about stability. And there is a MicroCenter opening in Charlotte which isnt that far away from me.

Are you implying the 7700X isn't all that stable?  It's a rock solid CPU,  as are they all.

looking for a new card to pair with the 12400f and i would like to know what the best cheap 1440p card is.

6700XT or 6800 is what I would suggest for 1440p in a vacuum since you don't tell us what games or fps you're shooting for.

1440p Minecraft can be played on a calculator for example 🙂

    Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, something that can handle Cyberpunk on ultra 1440p and idk 75hz at least. 3d mechanical design (Solidworks) with projects up to 300 parts.

    Other details

Current build I want to upgrade from.
    Motherboard: Z370M Pro4 MATX
    CPU: i5-8600k
    RAM: G.Skill trident Z DDR4-3600 CL18 (4x8gb)
GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070 8gb
    PSU: EVGA 750 PQ
    Case: Corsair Crystal 280X

So, I want to upgrade to an AM5 motherboard with the 7700x as my CPU. Im considering upgrading the RAM later down the line, but not right now.
I have a couple of questions:
What is a good MATX AM5 mobo that will able to handle future AM5 cpus?
Will my 750w PSU be able to handle those future generations? Even after a 40series upgrade?
What were the discounts on these parts on black friday or cyber monday?
And is it worth waiting for the release of the new generation CPU's and GPU's that are rumored to happen sometime later this year?

Any other suggestions like switching to Intel, considering a different AM5 cpu, or to think about AMD's GPUs are welcome!

Why the 7700X?  Why not see what parts you NEED for a performance level you state?

Is there a Microcenter near you?

So i have a mismatch ram which is 2x8GB 3200mhz and a 2x4gb 2133mhz. I currently use the 2x8GB 3200mhz one because obviously 3200mhz is faster. I wanna add the 2133mhz one and downgrade the 3200mhz one to just 2133mhz so i have 24gb of ram instead of 16gb. Which one is more beneficial to performance? Is ot the ram speed or the ram size? Btw, my cpu is ryzen 5 1600 from 2017.

With a Ryzen 1600, RAM speed won't matter.  The CPU is quite old.  Like asking if you should use Premium or Regular gas in your 2007 Civic.

If you need more than 16GB RAM, add the 2x4.  If not, just use the 2x8.

This whole pcb and motherboard business doesn't make sense to me. It just all sounds shady and it smells really bad. I don't understand this whole soldering thing and why only a select few companies(like foxconn) are doing this. It doesn't make sense at all, and the more I dig into this topic the more I realize that both Nvidia and Intel have been controlling businesses for decades.

Nobody here(on this forum), seems to fully grasp the inner-workings of how mobile motherboards are made and when I ask questions I get these vague responses that doesn't make any sense.

The whole idea about mobile motherboards being expensive to make sounds absurd and it doesn't make sense (unless Intel has complete control over the market). I have studied how motherboards are soldered together and from what I've seen they're really isn't that much complications to it, you just remove the components not needed and glue all the components needed and activate through firmware and WHALLAH, you just built your own mobile laptop.

I want to know why a pc building company like "Cyber Power Pc"(for example) won't do custom built laptops from the ground up. From my understanding, if you take apart a "GTX 1070" and solder it to a motherboard, that GPU would now be referred to as "GTX 1070 max q". So my question is why are only popular brands building laptops and not just anyone. Something isn't right here, either some type of monopoly is going on or some shady business between Intel and Nvidia. This whole thing just doesn't make any sense at all.

Build that conspiracy brick by brick...

It's not a complex thing, there are pcbs and components and soldered traces.

The videos outline how it works at scale.  If you do not understand them, go more granular and research the exact soldering method they use, for example .  If you do not understand,it's not them. It's you..

It's not shady or smells bad. You're not some investigative reporter uncovering the scandal of the decade.

Old games, no online functionality. How do we feel?

Howdy folks, as a part of a university project, I'm writing about current industry practices regarding the Maintenance and Preservation of older video game titles. At a certain point, I'm writing about the slew of older games that have since lost their online functionality (example: World at War) and the fact that the game is still listed for sale on Steam for £19.99, the same price as when the game first released in 2008.

Steam does not explain that the online functionality is broken, and Activision alongside other companies often outright refuse to allow third parties to create servers and maitain them for these titles, and any who do are often slapped with the heavy side of a legal sledgehammer (im looking at you, nintendo).

Also, in regards to these games, is it okay for companies to shut this functionality down even though at the time, you relied on the boxart of a game to choose if it was for you, most of these boxes praising their online functionality.

How do we feel about this?

Any suggestions for ways to fix the issue for both developers and consumers?

Are you writing the paper or asking us for content for it?  🙂

A few threads are already on this on the forums, if you need content.

    Hello,

I would like to ask you a question. Soon, I will be moving from my Intel system to the AM5 system. I have bought the new Gen 4 SSD, which will be my boot drive. The old boot drive SSD will be erased and used as a second storage drive. My question is: Do I have to erase the other SSD drive where I have my Steam library, video footage from my projects, music library, etc.? Or is it okay to keep it in the new AMD system? I reckon it shouldn't cause any issues, but I have never moved from an Intel to an AMD CPU before, so I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the reply in advance.

No, you can leave your Library SSD alone.  Just install Windows on the Gen 4, then Steam.  Go into Settings, and find the Library aspect to point it to the old folder.

In the Steam client options under "Download" is a point " Steam Library Folders". Just add the library from D and then restart Steam. Now all the games should be recognized.

Hello there, I've been planning a build for months now, and I've only gotten some components. I just have to buy the power supply, RAM, and motherboard. Before the 7000 series came out, I bought a Ryzen 5 5600X on a sale for $180 CAD with a 3060 ti, a Lian Li Lancool II, and a 1TB SSD. Now that the 7000 series has come out, should I sell my 5600x and buy something like a 7600x, then get a better motherboard and RAM?

7000 series has been out for a long time now, when did you buy the 5600x?   It's never a good idea to buy PC components over time.

Get the 7600, not the 7600x, sell the 5600x.

Yeah also do you think that the 1675 hz will hold back the 7800x3d and the 7800 bc I want to use them to their full potential

Realistically, some games will be able to achieve frame rates far beyond what monitors can show, even that 500hz one.

I simply crank settings up until my fps drops to my monitor refresh.

A 165hz monitor is more than enough imo.   Anything more is gravy and a bonus .

I for one LOVE ultra wide gaming.  It's such a great feel to have that extra side areas for UI stuffs as well as fitting my eyes viewing area.

A UW will compliment your 7800 while not leaving it wanting more.

Im not getting a Nvivia card so I wont need Gsync

also if u had to choose one monitor which is better

If I had to choose, I would get the Acer due to price alone.

With your build and your initial monitor budget, I would get a 1440p UW...  But that's my way of thinking.  A solid PC deserves a lot of nice viewing real estate.

The rsm is CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 64GB (4x16GB) 6000MHz.

They have docp profiles but whenever I set it to the profile my PC won't boot and I have to reset the cmos to turn it back on.

I'm not at home right now so I'll send the pic when I get back but it says 3800 in the task manager. Highest speed I can get without crashes

When you get home, see what just 2x16 does.  You should be able to hit EXPO with just 2 slots filled for starters.

    Hi everyone

I recently made the first high-end build in years, and everything is working, except AMD Expo.

I've an ASUS X670E Gaming Wifi Mobo. My RAM kits are from GSkill (2 kits 2x32 6000), first I tried with a single kit (2x32) In the Dual channel configuration that the manual recommended

    A2 1st
    B2 1st

This was giving a lot of memory error codes, same with A1 and B1 config, at the end it only worked using A1-A2 or B1-B2. And AMD EXPO always sent me to Safe mode boot, so I couldn't enable it.

After reading a lot, I saw some people saying that this series of motherboards, made odd things using 2 dimms, so I got another kit.

    Now I've tried 4x32GB, 2x32GB and EXPO doesn't work.

I'm not an expert on this, so any help would be appreciated.

    Here are my specs:

    CPU: Ryzen 9 7950x
Mobo: Asus ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming WiFi
    RAM: 2x32GB Gskill 6000mhz (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR) I've 2 of these kits for 128GB total
    GPU: Nvidia RTX 4090
Main Boot drive: Corsair 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD
    BIOS VERSION: 1905 x64
    Build Date: 02/05/2024

Right now I'm stuck at 3600mhz Speed on my RAM.

    Thanks

Work with this guy, he coincidentally has the same issue basically... hopefully you both can get it solved.

For you, can you get 1 kit running with EXPO?  4 DIMMS are going to be hard.

PC is vibrating too much the  the 6 fans are running even at lowest rpm from remote, bottom and side fans(4) are intake and top(2) are exhaust. when i turn off those fans the vibration are gone, how to i fix/remove vibration from my PC.

case used is InPlay Seaview S100 and the fans are Inplay Seaview X3. i change my case to this one and purchase those fans because my old case have really no airflow.

please someone help me if this vibration are normal for this kind of Case and Number of fans or not, im worrying too much. Thanks in advance ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

As above.   Screw them in better or get better fans,  shouldn't have any vibrations.

Otherwise get some vibration dampening materials on the interior..

Currently the max speed I can get with all four of my ram sticks is 3800mhz. I'm not able to use expo at all so I'm using the sk hynix 4x16 preset found on my Asus rog strix x670e. Any hidden tricks anyone knows to get it to run at least a little faster?

    What RAM is it, exactly?

EXPO or XMP, it should  have a profile.  Or you can manually set.

    Pic of Windows showing 3800?

Though this article seems to claim DDR5 starts at 3200MHz...

    Used

Its stupid to buy new last gen cause 200£ gets you a 6600 non xt new and a 6700xt used and the 6700xt is alot faster than a 6600

B650m hdv doesnt have built in wifi but you can get a b650m gaming plus wifi at 140£ unless you can find an m.2 wifi card and antennas for cheap

Please stop calling people who want to buy new stupid.   Yes, I know how you phrase it.

If you choose not to buy new, that's fine.  But many of us prefer not paying for things others have done what they wish, and may not have treated it like we would.

Buying used is a valid option but in no way stupid not to.  I do both but we each have our comfort levels.

ive added the be quiet! Pure Power 11 400 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply for 56 pounds, but what do i need to do about the cpu incompatability thing?

Most likely nothing.  Unless that board was manufactured 3 years ago, it will have a BIOS that can run the 5600 just fine.  If it's an old shelf sittter, you would need to update the BIOS with a previous gen chip like a 1600 or 3600, etc.

Can you find a B550 that is nice and cheap, would be a more guaranteed BIOS.
