  1. @James Evens I need to be able to fit a light, a battery, and the switch inside of a 1 inch wide, 1 inch tall, 5-6 inch long tube. Sorry for the long response time, by the way.
  2. @James Evens I couldn't find any magnetic switches small enough, if you can, can you provide a link to one? @Enderman Could you also provide a link to one. I'm assuming I'd need to get an NFC reader and tag, I can't use a phone to read the tag.
  3. Hey everyone, rather odd question but I feel like if I'm going to get an answer anywhere, it's here. What I want to do is wire something up to where it will only turn on when close to an object, some sort of sensor. If it isn't near the specific transmitter, it wont go off. If the the receiver is, lets say 2 inches away from the transmitter, then it will turn the device on. Maybe having a switch to turn the transmitter on and off. ANOTHER issue I'm having is that the device I want to only turn on when close to a transmitter has to be very, VERY narrow. I'd say around an inch wide and in tall. If anyone can help me out on this, that would be fantastic. I included a VERY basic diagram of what I'm trying to do, don't even know what I drew up in five minutes would work or not. If not, tell me. If it does, tell me. Any suggestions, tell me. Links to get the stuff, fantastic! Tell me. Any help is appreciated.
  4. Me personally, I use the Sennheiser HD 4.30G for my desktop, and then some mic off of amazon called "Echo" that is decent. The headphones are good quality, and I got them on sale when they were around 80$. Right now they're 100, though. You could check out the Sennheiser HD 4.20s though, thats around 80 and is basically the 4.30G but without the detachable cable and a different design. The two go-to companies for headphones that I generally recommend are Sennheiser Audio-technica
  5. So I have a readyNAS Pro 2, got it off craigslist, factory reset, all of that stuff that you should do when getting used computer stuff. Funny part though? I've been watching videos and reading forums on how to get this thing set up for at least 4 hours+, and still can't transfer files from my PC to the NAS. I'm REAL tired, so if someone would like to help me out with this, be patient with me because I'm running off coffee now. The NAS IS being detected by the network settings and everything by my computer, but clicking on them doesn't open a file explorer or anything like that, it takes me to the NAS admin page in google chrome. With the settings I have on at the moment, it's being detected as a storage device, and media device. Clicking on one makes the same result as the other, directing me to the admin page. If you want to hop in a discord call, I'd be glad to do so, just DM me or something.
  6. Simplest of solutions and yet I can't figure them out. Thanks a bunch man.
  7. When it comes to the ports, it'll be just like having a hard drive. So long as you have a free spot on the motherboard for SATA, and another cable you can use for the power, you should be fine. If you only have a hard drive plugged in at the moment, you should have 3 ports on the board open. I doubt you have a disk drive, but if you do then you still have two free open ports. (If you do have a disk drive, honestly I would just take that out and replace it with the SSD.) I don't know much about the mounting situation though, I know there's some mounts you can buy on amazon for around 5-10 dollars, but I think they're smaller than the usual hard drive sized trays.
  8. So awhile back I got a ReadyNAS Pro 2 off of craigslist, and also awhile back I stopped messing with it because I couldn't get it to function properly. After months going by, I've decided to get it working again. I did a factory reset on it, and realized that made the password and username swap back to the original ones it was given, which I have no way of finding out what they were. SO, my question is this; Is this thing now a paperweight, or is there a way I can get this to work as a NAS still? I'm ready to embrace the "Jank" side of the internet, so lay it on me.
  9. I know I could build a better PC and all, my main computer is waaay better than this laptop. I got kicked out for a bit is all so I could only grab my laptop and some random computer odd and ends. Again, I know its a bad idea, but an idea none the less. I was wondering if there was some sort of USB to PCIEx16 connector or something, seen acouple on newegg but I dont know if they'd actually work.
  10. So I got this half a year ago https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BKVWWXB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So far I put a micro SD card inside of it, and recently slapped 8GB of RAM into it. With that, I wanted to know if I could do some sort of external graphics card setup with it. Might not be a good idea, but an idea none the less.
  11. Another question. Even though I have a cloning thing for drives, wouldn't I have to get a new key for windows after transferring everything from the OS hard drive to the SSD? (Hypothetically, lets say I didn't buy a key from microsoft but instead from a different seller, cough cough.) Pretty sure that, if it works the same way for hard drives at least, even if you had an OS on one hard drive, it wouldn't magically work on a different computer. (As in that OS wouldn't work on a different computer until reinstalling it.)
  12. Oh geez Ok, so now that the questions answered, I'll try to swap to an SSD asap, considering I bought a drive cloner recently to save data from a failing hard drive. Since I'm a cheapo boyo, with amazon prime, would this be a good SSD to grab? (Note that I need 500GB+ to use my cloning thing) https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-Performance-Internal-SP512GBSS3A55S25/dp/B07997QV4Z/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1539663626&sr=1-6&keywords=500GB+SSD&dpID=51wTtyJ1zsL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
  13. So this is just a discussion, not me asking for help or anything like that. And also forgive me if this was already a thing on a different post. I have two velociraptor drives. I've been told so many times by countless people to upgrade to SSDs since they're faster. My question is how much faster? Would I really notice a difference, because it doesn't take long for my computer to boot at all. Aside from prices for each thing, what are the actual reasons why an SSD is better than a Velociraptor drive?
  14. Strike it to a bad craigslist deal, but I bought a ReadyNAS Pro 2 and can't actually register it with NETGEAR or ReadyCloud for a whole lot of reasons. So this got me thinking; Could I make this thing into a regular computer that could run a version of windows in order to use a different service for a NAS system, or is that not possible? (Sorry if this doesnt make sense, I'm sleep deprived.)
  15. I got a Dell Inspiron 11 3180 recently for the low low price of 160 dollars, and another 15 or 20ish for a SD card to slap in it. I just wanted to know, could I upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB of DDR4. I opened the bottom of the computer up to look at if there was one or two slots, seems like theres only one. (Though I could be wrong.)
