  1. I reinstalled the system again and its fine. No idea what was the problem, both are clean installs so I suppose something went wrong durring the instalation or something.
  2. Hey guys, you probably all know what I am talking about. I bought myself a new XPS 13, installed a new windows 10 Pro on it. Now when I press lets say 'C' in my folder with files, it find and highlights a file starting with 'C'. Press it again and it selects a second one. But if I press any other letter it does nothing. I have to click somewhere to "deselect" the file and then I can to it with another letter. On my PC I can press any letter I want as many times I want and it either finds the next or previous file it. I know its a stupid problem but I am used to this and its really annoying me. I tried to search on this but found nothing, hope someone know how to fix this.
  3. I read on the forums that the P410 cannot be put into JBOD/IT mode so the only thing left would be to put each drive into its own RAID 0 which would leave me with 3x3TB drives right?
  4. Hey everyone, I got my hands on HP DL380 G7 (2x Xeon X5650, 16gb RAM, HP Smart Array P410 512MB FBWC RAID Controller) and I was wondering if I should use virtualization (vmWare) or choose freenas/unraid and use jails or containers or whatever are they called for running the things I want. I would like to run: -Server for file storage and sharing -VPN server -Some modded minecraft server -maybe a PiHole -Plex I was first thinking about using unraid but then I read on the internet that the P410 doenst work well with ZFS + I though that the CPU power would be wasted on just unraid thats why I am leaning towards virtualization. So I am thinking about virtualized windows server that would act as file sharing server and plex, ubuntu running minecraft, some linux distro for pihole and VPN. The question I have is how should I set up the disks? I have 3*3TB HDDs and 512GB SSD. If I understand it correctly I will need to use the P410 in RAID0 (which is tottaly unsafe?) or RAID1 which would leave me with 4.5TB of actuall storage I can use for my VMs right? If I go with RAID 1 is there a point in having the SSD in? And one last questing - Is it possible to connect the HDDs without making RAID out of them? So vmWare would work with the drives instead of the RAID? PS: I am sort of new to servers so if I said something stupid, sorry about that. PPS: I know its a lot of text so thanks to anyone who actually reads this.

    PIA client

My point is, I like to keep my Windows clean without any apps. Thats why I want to know if it works properly with default Windows VPN. The same goes with my phone, connect through settings on iOS withou their app.

    PIA client

Hey guys, I was thinking about getting VPN. Namelly private VPN access. I would have a few questions tho. 1. Do I need to have their client, or can I just normally do it through dedault Windows VPN conection. 2. Can I connect my router to VPN to have every device connected without setting up each device, and “bypass” the 5 device limit. thanks for info and secure browsing :D
  7. It wasnt me who decided to split it, I got it that way, but it was because there are 2 different user groups and only one ISP connection so someone split it into two separated networks, but now they want shared server but they dont really like the idea of merging it but I guess I will have to talk them into it.
  8. Hey guys, I'm thinking about this for some time but my networking skills aren't that good. Is there a way to make the server (10.0.0.5) accessible both from the 192.168.0.0 and 10.0.0.0 network? The server is used as a media and storage server. Will I have to remake the A class into C class, which I take only as the last option here, or is there some other way? I've heard about static routing could that help? Or is it impossible? Both networks use 255.255.255.0 mask I know that the setup looks really stupid pls dont judge
  9. Thanks I was looking at the Lenovo IdeaPad 330S-15IKB 81F500TRCK with i5-8250u and Radeon 540, guess I will take it
  10. Weight doesnt really matter. And neither does display at this price I guess. So I am fine with it.
  11. Hey guys I am looking for a laptop mainly for school. usage: word, excel, movies, shows, web browsing battery: atleast 6 hours to get me through school size: 15.6" atleast 1920x1080 price: around 600$ (15000 CZK) max is 800$ (20000 CZK) online store from my country (czech republic) if anyone insterested: https://www.alza.cz/EN/ features: should be quiter, I dont want to sound like an aeroplane. numeric keypad required, and would be nice if it was back-lit but not necesarry. Thanks for any suggestions.
  12. Alright so just to get this straight... NAS CPU: Intel Celeron J3455 DELL CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1225 v5 so the NAS CPU is better for plex because it has better iGPU for transcoding. But do I need transcoding if I have good end device like LG OLED65C8 TV? I have been told to get the Dell because it has more powerful CPU, but you are saying that is has worse iGPU so I should get the NAS right?
  13. I am still looking around the net and found Dell PowerEdge T30 for almost the same price with Xeon E3-1225 v5 and 8Gb DDR4. Would that be a better solution? Maybe with some vmWare or just throw a Windows 2016 server and be done with it, maybe some SSD instead of the 1TB harddrive. The NAS seems "easier" and but on the other hand the DELL tower will be more flexible and I could use it for more stuff in the future. What are your thoughts?
  14. Hello everyone, I am looking for a NAS that would play 4K movies on 2 tvs, store some photos and make some backups. I chose synology DS918+ will it be good enough for my usage? Namely the 4K movies on two tvs at once. Also which HDD should I buy? Some 4TB but not sure which one. Last question: should I buy ssd for cache? thanks everyone for help.
