Kunker_ got a reaction from Results45 in [REVIEW] ASUS ZenBook Pro UX580GE
Hello everyone! This is my first review ever. I will be reviewing the Asus ZenBook Pro UX580GE. I purchased this laptop because it's thin, light and very powerful (Also 4K display). It cost me 2600 EUR - 2945$ (Can be found cheaper in US). Why so much you may ask? because in Latvia PC's cost a lot more and there isn't a huge selection of them. Here are the specs:
    I9 8950HK GTX 1050Ti 4GB (NON-MaxQ) 16GB DDR4 Soldered 512GB Toshiba M.2 PCI-E XG3 Weighs 1.88 KG #1 Build Quality
The top is covered with the signature ASUS swirl brushed aluminium and the inside is also brushed. It looks really good but it attracts fingerprints easily, if you take a damp microfiber cloth and brush it over it's as good as new. The laptop feels premium, you can open it with one finger. There is one downside there is a bit of chase flex on the top left of the keyboard, it only flexes if you push with a bit of strength - in normal everyday use you won't notice it, everywhere else the build quality is solid.

It's also quite light and is easy to carry around (I take it everyday to college in my backpack). If your interested I also bought the TomToc OLD MacBook Pro 15.4 inch sleeve for it, the laptop fits perfectly in it.

Keyboard - I can't really say much about this keyboard it feels clicky and responsive (Pro reviews say it's mushy but I can't see where they are coming from) and i can type easily on it. The WASD keys stay cool under load, probably because the GPU fan is under them you can feel the fan sucking air in sometimes. Also the keyboard is backlit (White light) and you can type easily in the dark.

Touchpad - The touchpad has a built in screen that has a resolution of 1080p. Sometimes I use it while working in PS, AI or while doing school work (example - extracting information from learning material) it can be useful, but when i'm not doing the things I mentioned before I turn it off and the touchpad feels normal - it's has a good size and the click is very tacktile. You can almost click the touchpad anywhere except the one third of the top - you have to press really hard to get it to click there.

    Score: 8/10

    #2 Display, Audio, Battery

Display - It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It's an IPS 4K  touch display that, has (almost - bottom corners have a very slight case of it, but nothing bothering.. ) no backlight bleed. The colors pop and are vivid really great for creators who use PS and AI. The touch functionality is useful, I use it all the time - just a quicker way to input into the PC sometimes. The brightness is fine, but sometimes I could use more. The panel is Glossy, but it doesn't bother me realy.

Battery - The battery life is also fine, but not amazing I manage 5-6 hours depending on what I do, but it's enough to last me an entire school day. This laptop has got quick charging too 20% to 100% in about an hour +-15 min.

Audio - Tuned by harman/kardon the audio is very good especially when on a hard surface because the speakers are on the bottom.

WILL UPDATE MORE IN NEAR FUTURE

Take a picture of it working so you have something to back you up in case the buyer claims you sent a bum phone, or asks if it works in the first place.

I'm a big fan of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and I'd highly recommend it. It checks every box for you, plus you are already familiar with the Samsung experience. This is my first time hearing of any battery issue with the Note 8. Samsung has implemented extreme tests to ensure there's no issue with the phone, especially on the battery front. Check for any reviewers on the internet and you are sure to get positive answers.

    All in all:
    - Solid build
    - Best display
    - Great camera for both photo and video
    - Excellent camera

    A few Cents from me:

    - Decide first, if you want iOS or Android. THIS is the absolute biggest, major difference between an iPhone and every other Smartphone.

    - You do alot of Videos? iPhone. This is the best Video quality out of every single Smartphone right now.
Huawei is quite bad / below average when it comes to videos. Not just the missing 60 fps when you chose 4k, but the stabilisation seems pretty bad.

    - What about other phones? Why are they not in your List? Oneplus 6t for example is great value, Xiaomi Mi 8 (or Mi Mix 3 if you are into slider phones)

Seems like youve been hit by the battery bug of Samsung phones.

Linus has had a similar issue with no real solution in sight. Including a twitter-user by the name of kirinodere, you will be the thirs person ive heard getting the bug.

If you are getting a new Samsung, ibwould probably not do a full transer in case it transfers the bug, same way Linus Experienced

Kunker_ reacted to djdelarosa25 in OEM vs generic drivers
I was wondering, what drivers should I install, the OEM ones (from Dell, in my case) or the generic ones from, say, Intel and NVIDIA?
The latest NVIDIA display driver that Dell provides for my laptop is version 391.25, while the latest NVIDIA generic one is 471.17. However, if you look at the driver history for my specific GPU (GTX 850M), 391.25 wasn't released by NVIDIA as a generic driver, so I'm assuming Dell does make changes to their drivers.

    How about for WiFi/Bluetooth drivers?

So I enter a lot of gleam giveaways and many have "watch this video" requirement, so basically, I have watched a lot of low tier youtubers and there are two things they do that really annoy me.
1."HEY GUYS, WHATS UP??". Every single one of them start their videos off like this. I don't get it. Its such a weird and awkward opening.
2.So many youtuber get SO close to the camera that it actually makes me feel uncomfortable https://i.imgur.com/FpkjcUE.jpg

I was happy enough using Arctic Silver on my laptop, today I decided it wasn't worth the efforr to use LM. The improvement over stock paste was really good, and any risks for slightly more improvement isn't really something I'm willing to risk experimenting with.

The chance of it seeping out is pretty low (As long as you've applied it correctly).
I used liquid metal on a super old laptop of mine just to gain some experience with it. It worked well (albeit not much better than stock) for the time until my screen died.

Generally, I wouldn't recommend using liquid metal. The gains are just too small for it to be worth it for most people.

    Yes cheapest.

Below 2kg, preferable around 10 hours battery, it will mostly be used for typing/ creation of documents, reading documents and general university work. Tocuh is not a necessity but would be nice. Again sRGB would be nice but far from essential.

Kunker_ reacted to Wohaaa in Help on introducing brother to computers, not just gaming.
Guess that's how I learned as well. Experience and experimentation. But I just can't seem to remember the exact starting point. The only thing I remember is that I started in late 2014. I had an old Dell Optiplex GX270 (Minesweeper memories. Freaking nostalgia overload.) Later on I wanted a new better computer. I got a Dell Vostro 200 with a GT 610 in it (Still have it now!). Spent a few months on it. Some time later some new machines arrived (not by my request. I don't know why they came), and I got my hands on a custom built PC, which is now what my brother currently is using. I spent a few months experimenting and researching as to which machine was better: The one I had or the one that arrived. At that point I guess I found out what components make a computer. Still have memories of swapping graphics cards, taking crysis 1 benchmarks, and trying to fit DDR2 in DDR3 slots. I then spend 2015 and 2016 researching. a LOT of researching, for the machine I have today. I used to get out my house on a weekly basis going to plazas and shops finding out the costs of components and recommendations from sellers. I have sooo much information on the performance of Intel and Nvidia hardware before the 10 series and 7th gen lineup. In the end I got my main PC and then a year later the GPU for it.

I got 16 Gigs of DDR4 (8 X 2) for 45 US Dollars. FORTY. FIVE. Geez those were good times. Anyway, I'll try to get him some used hardware and let him experience it itself. Thanks for the story!

They basically flash modded firmware on the chip so it thinks it's 2TB. But if you go over the real capacity then files start to get corrupted and damaged ...
