  1. Welp, its generic enough to be a windows issue, that and as we all know Win10 is infamous for doing inexplicable crap. That and there are way more eyeballs on this forum compared to the tiny amount the tdm forum. And your answer exemplifies that, I've never played CoJ nor had a heard of a utility called 'Process Lasso', which I will obviously try. And btw aware that IDtech4 went open source a long while back, its been updated multiple times since then.
  2. So a game that I play called The Darkmod (its free and open-source) was consistently crashing when loading a level. OS - Win10 22H2 CPU - Amd 5900x GPU - RTX 4080 RAM - DDR4-3733 (4x8GB CL17) SSD - Sabrent Rocket4 plus 2TB I then went through the following tests - Memtestx86 from USB stick for 2hrs, no issue/s found. Windows 10 built-in memory test, no issue/s found. did a full virus scan of the PC, no issue/s found. Wiped the machine and did a fresh install of Windows 10, game crashes Wiped the machine and did a fresh install of Windows 11, game does NOT crash Replicated the steps to reproduce the crash, on another machine - OS - Win11 23H2 CPU - Intel i5-4430 GPU - GT 730 RAM - DDR3-1333 (4GB) SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 512gb Game does NOT crash on this machine. So then on the main PC (Amd) I had just created another user account, but before I logged into that user account something made me think to look into the security section of Windows 10 settings. Where upon I enabled core isolation and rebooted, and surprisingly turning that features ON, prevented the game from crashing. A colleague suggested that I might have a root-kit virus or some other malicious software, but response to that was - I was getting the crash after wiping the SSD (Sabrent 2TB) and doing a fresh install of win10. the game is very niche(not that many people play it). why would said virus/malicious software only effect this one game and NO other programs on the computer. The only thing/s that are of import right now are - Core isolation has to be enabled to stop the game crashing on Win10 22H2 on my Amd based pc. Core isolation does NOT need to be enabled on Win11 on either the Amd or Intel machine. The game does NOT crash on either, under that OS. So what the hell is going on that Core isolation is somehow stopping the game from crashing under Win10?
  3. Unsurpsisingly HMRC have I think f**ked up, as I understand it, Unless I am miss understanding they should have only charged vat/duty on the amount/s above £135, in this case £47. This is why I have never bought anything from LMG or internationaly in general. If the item develops a fault, you will again be charged vat/duty for the replacement item coming back to you. So for UK customers it is utterly pointless to be buying anything from US based YTr's unless the item including shipping & insurance is under £135. So this is just one of many reasons I would never buy the LMG backpack. A friend sent me a gift from the US some years ago and insured it for $600. Hmrc at the time tried charging me £80, I got this back from them by getting an email from said friend stating what the value actually was. Hmrc then begrudingly refunded me my £80, cnuts. Brexit has made this situation much worse. But more info on buying items from abroad, looks like LMG need to register for vat in the UK if they are selling to UK customers (https://www.icaew.com/insights/tax-news/2020/july-2020/changes-to-vat-treatment-of-imported-goods) - But I strongly suspect LMG have not and will not be doing this, but you can always ask for a refund from them for the VAT.
  4. @synergistftwthanks for that, so as suspected the whole upgrade to Win11 for some hardware was mostly scare tactics. Win10 will differentiat just fine, Win11 just does it more efficently (so good for laptop users)
  5. AM5 cpu's absolutly do not require Win11, nor does AMD say as much. Either OS is just fine - https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d#product-specs. Intel 12th gen and above, do require Win11 for the ecore/pcore scheduling. But trying to find this info in intels website is a joke.
  6. Regarding the testing - On the EP of th Wanshow where L&L spoke about it, Luke even stated the obvious, eg that a 3090ti should have been used for the testing ffs. @LinusTech says he values Luke's opinion, more than the communities which is a fair comment. So why didnt you listen to him then bud? Regarding the non-return the prototype - This angered me. Obviously Im on the outside looking in, I'm not Adam, the Labs or Linus, but too many mistakes have happened for it to be miscommunication. Find and return the prototype at LMG's cost, or compensate BL - its that simple. I've been following LTT for years and we all make mistakes, so will be watching to see how @LinusTech handles this.
  7. Now I can sure, but not after a bios flash if I didnt know about it before hand.
  8. I did wonder if this was a "thing" hence doing a google/duckduck search before posting on here, but only found the reddit link. And what gets me angry, as an engineer, there was nothing on the bios page or in the readme forwarning me of this. Regarding the reg keys, I was able to remove all the associated keys(including the undelteable ones in the windows reg editor) with Registrar (https://www.resplendence.com/registrar)
  9. Summary I updated my bios this morning on my Msi MEG X570 ACE motherboard and upon booting into windows I was prompted to allow an MSi driver installer utillity access the internet Quotes My thoughts Had I not had a custom firewall application installed (WindowsFirewallControl - Binisoft), I would have NEVER known this crap was, stealth installed on my PC!. Did a search on this forum and on the net and only found one other instance of this. There is no uninstaller for this program listed in control panel, but did find an entry in the registry. ve zipped up the files and can provide a link for anyone that wants to see the files. I did do a virus check and a file reputation checkand it thankfully showed as clean. The bios version I updated to was 7C35v1M (https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MEG-X570-ACE/support) Motherboard Manufactures SHOULD NOT and CANNOT be installing software on users PC's with out consent or notification, What the actual F*** MSI...???!!! [update] Found some reg keys for the program that I am unable to delete - Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\PnpLockdownFiles\ Sources
  10. Correct, but Ubisoft hasen't updated it T/C's to reflect this statement - - https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/24/23805783/ubisoft-delete-game-accounts "Ubisoft, not The Verge, bold'd the part about how “accounts that include purchased PC games are not eligible for deletion.” And it’s notable that logging into non-Ubisoft accounts like Steam can apparently save your account from deletion. The statement as provided doesn’t quite fit with the company’s terms of use, which state that it will notify users their account is pending deletion after six months of inactivity. Ubisoft provided a very similar statement to ours to PC World in 2021, so it’s odd that the company hasn’t updated its terms of use to reflect those facts, at least as far as we’ve been able to see."
  11. Firstly its not going to be a PSU issue, at all. If the GPU is throtteling and the fans spining up then its a thermal issue with the card, or both cards in this instance. So....you may need to re-paste the GPU (Linus has done a few vids on this). I also suggest doing an internet search on the model and look for someone who has done a tear down of that card to see how its done. On a related note, be aware that lately some CEX stores are pulling B$ if they see an original oem warranty sticker (eg one not placed by them, so HTF would they even enforce this legally) thats broken, they will refuse warranty. I know, I Know, its entirly illogical and complete and utter B$. The fix is to remove the sticker entirly (as in use a bit of acetone/brake cleaner), this stops the imbecile behind the counter seeing it in the first instance.
  12. There are horror stories on this very forum of users trying to contact Ubisoft, the end result is the user just pirates the game and never has to deal with Ubishaft again.
