DezGalbie got a reaction from Colb in "AMD needs to stop launching their products on weekends" - LS
There's a lot of things being said about points which I am not making in the slightest.

I'm not saying that this driver issue is only LMG's problem. I'm not saying that AMD and LMG do not have some kind of partnership (although if I was to describe it I probably wouldn't do it that way). I'm also not dismissing Linus's complaint. He's right to complain. I would too.

I am only disagreeing with one very specific point. The point where it was said that AMD are forcing LMG staff to work this weekend. That is clearly untrue. That's a decision for LMG management to make. They were put in a tough spot where they had to decide between coming in over the weekend to redo videos and gaining the income/exposure/all the other stuff that comes with being at the forefront of a big tech launch and giving the staff the weekend off, waiting until Monday to redo their videos, and a gaining a little bump in staff morale. That's a choice. It's a choice made by LMG, not AMD.

All optical is 100% standard. Its sometimes called "toslink" as toshiba originally used it to link its products together, before it became used on an absolute tonne of products. And yes it is the one you would be looking for, it goes by many names. But the most common are S/PDIF/toslink/optical.

The TV will downmix the 5.1 into stereo, otherwise you would only hear the front two channels, and basically 0 dialogue. For this i would get a soundbar (unless you have a decent budget for proper surround sound) and connect it with optical/toslink, some soundbars come with a dialogue enhancement button which boosts the frequencies of human speech. The center channel plays most dialogue, but it can come from surround or overhead channels if its mixed that way and you go for a dolby atmos 5.1.2 or however many numbers you want to go for (i used to run 15.2.5 so i know quite a bit about surround)

Oh you're using a PC, that makes it much easier, make sure you have Stereo set in Realtek, and if the TV is connected via a 3.5mm jack then the TV is playing Stereo, but if it's getting Audio through HDMI then you might be able to find some settings in the TV menu, if there's none then it's playing stereo as well

You can, but it's an expensive solution to a simple problem, I have been using Stereo since forever and i've never had any issues playing 5.1 Audio files, they will always be converted to Stereo if your audio device is set to Stereo, and the conversion is not problematic

Here's a test you can run, I double checked that it is in fact 5.1 Audio
If you can hear Front Left, Front Center, Front Right, Right Surround, Left Surround then you're good, try also playing that through Plex, maybe its the issue

Plugin a 5.1 speakers and using the classic  Realtek software will give you the capability to manage each speaker separately, very handy in movies to increase the center speaker

Judging by the collector grip, you probably want something like the Uni-Ball Vision Elite. Rollerballs write so much better than ballpoints mostly because of the ink they use; ballpoints use thicker oil-based inks, while rollerballs (and gel pens) typically use thinner water-based inks, the same sort of ink fountain pens use.

I, too, am quite particular about my writing instruments.

Yeah, wood can look amazing when done correctly.  I'm not an expert, but I did measure multiple times, get good quality plywood with real veneer, used matching edge banding and quality stain.  I'm happy with the results.

I had to physically cut the motherboard tray from an old Antec full tower for this project and it's mounted directly to the back.  I see there is a company that makes some test benches that have a replaceable MB tray.  The design of them means they will be about 1.5 or more inches between the back and the bottom of the tray.  That would give plenty of space  for cabling to go under.

I love wood as a furnishing and building material. I'm always interested in seeing it incorporated into case designs. There should be more wooden (or at least partially wooden) PC cases out there!

I would say the 2200G is what you're looking for, for your purposes. It can handle light gaming without the extra expense of a graphics card.

I would suggest just a slight upgrade in terms of the motherboard though. I would say you would be best going for B350 or above just in case you ever want to upgrade your systems (or maybe just some of them) to something like 3rd gen Ryzen at some point down the line when the 2200G doesn't seem so capable any more.

I have a 2200G system that is mainly used as my media server, but is also capable of standing in as a light gaming station in the kinds of titles you mention (Like Borderlands, Borderlands 2). I've never tried it with single channel memory so I don't have a comparison, but I believe it should benefit from double channel memory.

It's amazing the sense of entitlement which some people exude towards ownership of the art and expression of other people.

As some have said in this thread (and many others I'm sure would agree) the best advice is - if you don't like the game then don't play it.

But that's not enough for these people. They aren't content with deciding what is right for them, they insist upon dictating to others as well. It's a strange sort of entitlement. We wouldn't accept any of our elected officials having such a heavy-handed control over our expression and artwork, so why does anyone pay the slightest attention to random rainbow-haired Macbook tappers who like to play journalist, and who haven't been appointed as our collective representative on anything at all?

I guess it's all just the tribalism of ideologies. If your ideology naturally aligns with the ravings of the rainbow-haired then you are more likely to play along and treat them as an authority because it bolsters your side having another "authority" to point to. If your ideology opposes them then you are more likely to question their "authority".

    Nah, mate. We get it.

Gigabyte will help you under warranty. If your card is significantly overheating during your warranty period then they will help you. If it happens outwith your warranty period then they won't.

If I buy a 2nd hand 5 year old Ford and decide that it needs some maintenance, can I contact Ford and have them walk me through it? Or will they tell me to take it to a mechanic?

And if you think Ford should help you in this circumstance, where does it end? What if it was a 20 year old Ford? 50 year old Ford?

At some point your warranty ends and the manufacturer's obligations to the product's repair and servicing end with it.

Nobody is trying to prevent him from repairing anything. He can go repair it himself and nobody will stop him. Gigabyte are just refusing to help him repair an out of warranty product.

    What's wrong with that?

Should Gigabyte be liable to help people repair anything they have sold from the beginning of their company to the end of days?

    That's kind of understandable, IMO.

They cover you while under warranty. Any issues and they will help you.

But they don't want to tell you how to service something which is out of warranty because if they tell you the wrong thing then you can probably hold them liable for damages.

Pretty much any thermal paste should be fine though. I would use anything which is not electrically conductive.

I would strongly suggest a newer motherboard. The A320 won't be compatible with newer gen Ryzen processors which prevents any future upgrade.

I would suggest looking for a cheap B450 chipset board at least. You will probably get a good deal on one 2nd hand after 3rd gen Ryzen comes out.
