  1. I also don't get why this comment is necessary, eSports is growing by the tournament, look at DotAs TI exceeding itself every year ($25mil for Ti7) it's time to either get with the time or miss the opportunity. As a 17 year old lad, I am starting to play dota more competitively, taking part in every Dota Battle Pass tournament at the weekend, every faceit tournament I have a go at. BUT I also understand the value of staying fit, I go to the gym 3-5 times a week to stay healthy. Just because the times are moving and people are starting to see video games as a sport does not mean that other sports such as football are just going to die.... Picture it this way, do you still class a eSports player (let's say somebody like Miracle from Team Liquids dota team) as a professional? Do you class Ronaldo from (insert team he plays for here) as a professional? Each sport is different, if eSports isn't for you, don't follow it but don't kick up a fuss because you don't. I could rant on about me thinking football was not a sport and how everybody acts when they pretend to get hurt, but do I? No.
  2. Dota/StarCraft etc requires a high level of eye to hand coordination and understanding to be exceptional at, both take an impact to you mentally if you lose/win a tournament/professional match... I don't get this line.... NOBODY has said to ditch sports and only do eSports... Sports is still going to be popular, football isn't just going to die cause Finland now support competitive dota..... It shouldn't ONLY be down to professional sports to glorify healthy activity. It should be down to the government through campaigns, schools through PE and awareness and most importantly Parents to say when enough is enough.....
  3. In my eyes, eSports is much as a sport as Snooker and Pool. Snooker and Pool need you to have good coordination and skill, as much as any major eSports game these days. If you don't see Snooker and Pool as a sport, I get why you don't see eSports. If you see Snooker and Pool as a sport but not eSports then
  4. Of course e-Sports isn't your traditional sport, hence why it is electronic sport and has only took off very recently. I get both of these points. You've got no cultural background in e-Sports because it is only just starting to take off properly (last 5-10 years when football and rugby has 100-200 years). I also get the no physical activity bit, as much as I could argue that the average Dota players wrist moves a lot, e-Sports doesn't exert as much as running around a field for 80-90 minutes. However, see below the definition of 'Sport' : an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment This is what Pro Players of who play the games they play (from StarCraft to Dota) do on a day to day basis, from casual games of Public matches for no prize or on the main stage at internationals. I think you'll find that e-Sports is considered a sport. Even eSports professionals need coaching and help to ensure they don't choke under pressure and have a positive mind frame. Take the below team for example. They were crap under pressure, hell, I even remember watching one of there games and wondering if they were pulling a iBuyPower. They brought in a professional who aided them. What you know, they won the next major - I think its the right move from Finland to keep up with the moving times. I would like to see Finland push more exercise with this however this could be from a campaign at school to keep kids fit and healthy or just extended PE lessons.
  5. Favourite team is Team Liquid and always has been. Wish we still had the dream team of S1mple and Hiko :((
