  1. Hey, I'm helping my friend build a new computer, and it won't post I'm not sure if there is something I'm missing or what. I've only ever built one PC before, but here are his parts. PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor $248.29 @ Amazon Motherboard MSI - B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard $114.89 @ OutletPC Memory G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory $134.99 @ Newegg Business Storage Samsung - 970 Evo Plus 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $73.99 @ Amazon Case Phanteks - P300 ATX Mid Tower Case $59.99 @ Amazon Power Supply EVGA - B3 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $69.89 @ OutletPC Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $747.04 Mail-in rebates -$45.00 Total $702.04 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-07-12 23:10 EDT-0400 The case fan, CPU fan, and GPU fan all spin and have RGB. EDIT: The motherboard, CPU, GPU are all plugged into the PSU. We couldn't find all of the front panel connectors, we found (Power Switch, HDD L.E.D.) also they had no marked +/- only an arrow on one of the connectors (I assumed this was positive). The ram is installed in dual channel, and I referred to the motherboard manual to make sure they were in the correct positions. Also noticed that one of the prongs from then I.O. shield is slightly bent towards a USB port(making it unusable), maybe it's a grounding issue since it didn't line up properly? This light is currently on as well, I think it says VGA Currently trying to use HDMI tried my monitor and my TV, also reusing old HDD that was from old PC. Don't know if either of these could be the problem Tried both ram sticks in different configurations
  2. Was a bit much maybe should have rehashed it somewhere mb Gaming and Streaming
  3. Yeah I wasn't sure if Ryzen just needed high frequency or a lot of RAM (16gb/32gb) wasn't sure if I could go down to 16gb He wants to be able to run games and stream without lagging and he already has a GPU (GTX 970 I think) that he can always upgrade later. yes he has a GPU already and he's looking to spend $800-900 Thanks, wasn't sure about the RAM which was my main concern and he is going to re use his current HDD so he just needs an SSD so I was just trying to get him a good boot drive he doesn't use much storage space. I'm really bad at choosing a good PSU option rather over shoot than under shoot Also sorry for delayed responses
  4. I was putting together a PC for my friend he doesn't have a lot of money to spend so I was trying to keep it on the cheaper end. I've only ever built intel machines but I know Ryzen was performing really well so I tried to put an AMD build together. I think I read you need high frequency ram for Ryzen but I wasn't sure if I also need a lot of available memory 32gb v 16gb. So thought I'd ask here https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9N77V6
  5. Do you happen to remember the model you bought? There are a ton of the market and a lot of them look like Chinese rips that may or may not work. If not I'll browse around
  6. Okay so we had some really bad thunderstorms, and my modem seemed to have stopped working so I got another one. Now my desktop LAN port seems to be acting up and when I plug in my ethernet (CAT5E) cord it makes this weird popping sound, I assume this is my LAN port and of course as result my motherboard however everything else seems to be acting fine.
  7. I've never ran into this problem myself, my grandmother bought some Dell Inspiron line PC a few years back. We had some storms recently and it fried her computer, all she does is browse the web buying this or that and using social media. I thought of a Chromebox for replacement. Then I realized her monitor is VGA, is there any real solution other than buying a new monitor? Do any of these "adapters" or "converters" really do what I need them to do?
