  2. Normally I would drop them like you all have but Linus and crew have been trying to get PIA to come on the show to discuss the situation and try to instill proper trust; not to mention I already paid them for 2 years just a few months ago so they wont be giving back my $ Originally I was going to go with tunnelbear but the same day i was going to go with them is when they got snatched up and i decided to wait till another vpn could be considered. I didn't go with nordvpn because a friend said not to and he turned out to be right. I am very hopeful that PIA would pull thru the trust barrier whenever they can get on the show with Linus. I'm going to miss the show today again though, darn real life *shakes fist* May the vpn gods be with us <.<
  3. Hi all, I don't know if this has been posted or not, search didn't find anythings but just in case here goes: I just installed PIA version 1.7 and it mentioned that they patched the CVE-2019-14899 security bug. Apparently it's a extremely bad bug; here is their site blog about it: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/2019/12/private-internet-access-updates-linux-desktop-client-to-prevent-against-cve-2019-14899/ Here's a quote from PIA about affected platforms: The official bulletin can be found here: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2019-14899 They say that in addition to various Linux distros; FreeBSD, OpenBSD, MacOS, iOS, and Android are affected as well so please patch as soon as you can. Stay safe everyone!
  4. FINALLY!!!! It's working with my Samsung Galaxy J7 over a micro-usb cable again!! I struggled for over two years of it nor working with tethering so i gave up over a year or more ago after VZW tech support couldn't figure it out. They kept saying that it should be working over the cable but nothing we tried did anything and i could _only_ connect to the internet through wifi. IDK, maybe a bug in the phone o/s was causing it or maybe my cables were all bad ( this one is brand new as of a few weeks ago ) FWIW: Connecting to the PrivateInternetAccess VPN over my usb cable on my 3 year old phone is almost like having a land connection as it seems to be more stable and far faster ( not using WiFi is faster, who knew? <.<
  5. Samsung Galaxy s9plus but when I had my old phone ( Samsung Galaxy J7 - it stopped working and customer service couldn't figure it out. )
  6. So here's my situation.... I use Verizon Wireless _exclusively_ for my internet access because the access is great where I'm at but there are no "reasonable" land-based isp's to me ( to put it mildly ) also I travel on occasion. Ideally i want to connect my mobile devices to my computer via a usb cable and have internet but sadly unlike a few years ago when i could "Tether", only hotspot works now. Plus they cap it at 15GB/mo/device.... Speeds are pretty sweet though but security in a public place like a hotel or a coffee shop is ZERO because apparently anyone can listen in and record your packets to/from the internet. Android Authority had a video i saw this morning and here's their article about WiFi-snooping: https://www.androidauthority.com/capture-data-open-wi-fi-726356/ I use my laptop and computer all the time but need for the internet access to be secure. So I bought PIA when LTT had advertised it and for a while there it worked great -however- now it has issue connecting and keeps re-connecting all the time. every once in a while i get a good solid connection but then it only lasts a few minutes which is becoming a big problem for me. Troubleshooting steps i tried: * disconnecting PIA and everything works great and really fast but then I try connecting to multiple places like denver, houston, texas, us west... same issues and sometimes one is great for a while then it has problems and the others who were previously bad are good for a minute or two. * I also tried both a tablet and a cell phone but same thing. Sorry for long post -- basically; is there a way to connect my devices to my laptop or computer with a usb cable and still get internet through them or is that like permanently disabled now with no work-arounds? ? ** also does anybody know if this problem is being caused by Verizon ( on purpose ) or by PIA ( with technical issues ) ??
  7. IDK about a chrome extension but it doesn't matter if the PIA app keeps reconnecting like it does with me. I actually got on here to look for help with this and yes it does seem to be getting far worse for me but mostly during the last few weeks, prior to that I hadn't been using PIA regularly on all of my devices. I decided to start upgrading everything to be more secure and now i'm getting this reconnect ion and speeds issue ? Most sites are connection-dependent..... I mean.... if your connection is spotty or intermittent then weird things happen.... for example while typing this reply, i typed in a smilie and then due to the connection problem, chrome wouldn't do anything with the left and right arrow keys *facepalm* ******** My situation is that I have several devices with Verizon Wireless and I use all of them with the 15GB/each hotspot for my internet. It is far more reliable and portable for me to do this. __but__ if I turn off the PIA then my Hotspot speeds are fantastic and fully reliable. I've tested this several times tonight before making this post and every time is the same. *Edit* -- my tests are to just stay connected online and do connection intensive tasks such as load a kickstarter page ( this is great for testing connectivity issues as they usually are rather large single pages with images ) or just keep making smilies in the text box on this forum and as it tries to convert the smilies to images then try using the left and right arrow keys... @PrivateInternetAccess: please help us ;-(
  8. hmm....... do you suggest to put the intel card in the near slot and a regular GPU in the farthest slot to get the coprocessor access functionality of the intel card? That's a good idea to give that a try! (update) I've been looking into this a bit more and I "think" ( although may be a long shot here ) that they could have added the ports on purpose as Video_Out and expected that the card would be used on motherboards ( especially those consumers looking to upgrade their hw who have pentium 4's, pentium d's, and core2 duos ) where there are NO VIDEO OUT ports on the motherboard... ** more over " I " personally believe (hope rather) the actual consumer purpose that intel was considering was to have the card be used on core i3/i5 motherboards that had no video out ports onboard "and" that the types of Core CPUS used would have to have "intel graphics" inside the CPU chip as well. ^---- if this were the case then the proper configuration would be to get a motherboard ( actual "intel board" if at all possible and with no video out ports ) and use a core i5 quad core with intel graphics inside. The only question is if any instruction sets were added to the intel CPU specifically for connecting to and driving this intel pcie card. because if those instruction sets existed in earlier intel CPU generations then they may have remove these sets from future CPU generations after scraping the project. sorry so long winded on my part but I hope that helps :-) p.s. if you get it to turn on and boot to o/s then send it all to me and I'll try to work out the software side of it ( sw takes a while but I will see what i can do ) I'm a software guy and you're the hardware experts! p.s.s. if you do send it to me then i might need some crossed fingers form the entire forum
  9. Hi all, My first post here, please be kind.. I just signed up for the 99 cent for 2 months special over at skillshare that Linus advertised in one of his videos today. I quickly realized that everything is in HD and they would quickly kill my hotspot allowance if i take all the classes i want. They apparently have no customer service ( that i could find )... So Youtube lets me choose my default video quality which i set to 360 ( still looks and sounds great because, well - it's youtube magic, i guess ). Since I regularly use my cell phones and tablets with mobile hotspot for my laptop when i am out and about. I was hoping there was a way to tell Chrome to: 1: permanently set max video quality to 360 ( i'm sure it doesn't really work that way but idk what to do here ) and 2: permanetly disable all BackGround HTML5 videos which in of themselves annoy the h.ll out of me lol any help and suggestions are welcome, ty - Rich
