Msuni got a reaction from Dedayog in Why am I having to change my GPUs thermal paste every few weeks due to temps?
Oh wow really? I assumed that it was a good thermal paste, never did much research just probably heard someone say it in a video at one point. I'll definitely try MX-4 and hopefully that'll do the trick - seems like it will though. Cheers 🙂

That's what i was thinking, and from a reputable brand as well. (As far as I'm aware anyway)

No idea why having "F11" as a fullscreen toggle isnt standard in any game but hey...

In all my time playing a game where there is a hotkey to do so, NEVER have I accidentally pressed it. I tab out of games very often to change the video etc and I want to play in fullscreen as i have a 144hz monitor.

Msuni reacted to mariushm in Is it bad to put electrical tape on a graphics card as the glue on the tape could melt etc?
Usually the sticky substance on the tape is not conductive, so even if tape comes off, the dry glue remaining on the card is inert, doesn't affect anything.
It can be partially cleaned using a simple pencil eraser.

You can clean the card more thoroughly with a bit of isopropyl alcohol (on some cotton wool , ear cleaning tips whatever or paper napkins / chemwipes) or sanitary alcohol... acetone (nail polish remover) can also be used but this is a stronger solvent which can also dissolve paints used for printing part numbers on plastics so you may not want to smudge printed stuff on various components on the card.
Just clean it outside the pc and let the solvents evaporate before plugging the card back in the pc.

Not really, only something like 3% at most, probably not even that. Overclocking is a far better way of getting more performance, but obviously, that requires an overclockable CPU.

A mild OC would be fine; my Cryorig H7 Quad Lum isn't really better and I was able to maintain 4.8ghz within comfortable levels (<90c in A64) before delidding.

Keep it under 1.3v and you will prob. be okay.

My 212 Evo maintains my 4.6 all core OC pretty well, the temps are below 85 Celsius in synthetic loads (Aida64 mainly). If you get a good price on 212X it's decent, but the 212 Black edition is such a good value right now.

Msuni reacted to Energycore in CM Hyper 212x i7-8700k OC?
Well, that question is actually two questions depending on whether you already have the 212X.

    If you do:

The Hyper 212X is not a very good CPU cooler, barely doing better than the 212 EVO. But you can overclock as much as you want provided you keep temperatures below 85C. I don't have hands on experience with Coffee Lake so I couldn't tell you how far it's going to go.

    If you don't:

Consider the following alternatives which are higher performance and similar price:

Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 - The budget option, very good performance but fan is cheap looking.
Be Quiet! Pure Rock - Similar performance to the GAMMAXX 400 but nicer looking fan.
Thermalright Macho Direct - My recommended choice. Very good performance but a bit bulky. Check that your ram isn't insanely tall so this guy fits well.
Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Slim - The best one for clearance, its performance is in between the GAMMAXX and the Macho, but it pulls it off while using less space than the latter.

You can set refresh rate to anything you want as long as below the native of your monitor by doing a custom resolution on nVidia control panel, I believe the link above is a guide for that.  it wasn't so here's a link:

Once you set it to 80hz just V-Sync (Triple Buffered if avaible) that way you'll have the smoothest gameplay as most framecappers don't sync your fps to the refresh rate causing tearing.

I've just built my PC after not having one for a little while... I'll get back to you on that one... ?

In all seriousness though, I'm an IT technician and already deal with cleaning a lot of computers at work, plus I have a second job as well... I can't really be bothered to clean my rig when I get home, it just... Works. Until I see the temps raise in which point I will probably change thermal paste and clean certain aspects of my PC to regain good temps.

Very rarely do I do a full clean up however... Just use an air compressor from work to get rid of most of the dust...

It depends on your environment to be honest. I'm in a pet and smoke free apartment so I only really need to do it maybe twice a year. But usually when I'm doing maintenance or upgrades I have time to do it as well. So pretty much every 6 months or so.

Msuni reacted to mariushm in Find out what programmes are needed to run windows?
The black ones can stay - they're windows updates or drivers (tho i guess you could uninstall just the control panel and leave the drivers working) and runtimes - dll files required by applications to run (games, various software packages), they'll be automatically reinstalled by various applications or games and if you uninstall them some games may refuse to run or crash.

Msuni reacted to GoodBytes in Find out what programmes are needed to run windows?
Confirmed. You can uninstall all programs listed.
You may want to keep your drivers, for obvious reasons, but nothing in there is linked to the operation of Windows 10, including the listed updates.

If you plan to remove some things only, I would keep Microsoft Visual C++, those are just library that a or some programs has installed with the program installation for the proper operation of  the software(s) in question. Sadly, but understandably, if you uninstall the program that installed one of these Visual C++ runtime library files, they won't remove it, as it assume that maybe some other program might needs it.
